I am thinking of buying a Supermicro SC847E26-RJBOD1, 45 disk case. But how good is it? It is it top of the line, best of the best? Or medium server stuff, or low grade?

It's good. I'd say upper middle of the range. In my mind, it doesn't get much better than the DataON JBODs. They have a 60 bay JBOD. It's a wee bit pricey.

The SuperMicro chassis/JBOD is good if you don't need a highly available configuration. The SM JBOD only has 2 inputs and no user replaceable hotswap parts. The DataON have 2 card slots and redundant PSUs. Each card has two inputs and one output. This will allow you to plug in 2 head nodes for an HA configuration.

All of my experience with Supermicro gear has been great and everything is high quality.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanx guys! How much better is it then Norco 4224 say? Is it the same league?

I am thinking of buying it as a private person, building a ZFS server. Dont really know what to do with it though... :)

PS. Would this Supermicro JBOD case be overkill for a private person? Does anyone of you run it at home?
