I hope that they're able to block this shit in hardware in the next revision. I'm still frustrated that miners are taking all the cards and I can't even get the card I want for my VR setup.
I wonder how much ecological damage is being done with all the power that's being wasted on this, too...
Though really, is there anything to even upgrade to if you've got a Vive Pro with a wireless adapter and Index controllers?
Changing anything in that setup will mean a downgrade on some level*, and the newest bit of that kit is from mid-2019.
* : Like giving up wireless for a higher resolution...
Yeah. I remember a while ago realizing that even individual seconds seem to past more quickly than they used to. Weird.
I think that my own perception of time started shifting sharply at around 20, and time has felt like it's been getting faster and faster since.
I'll get it if they bring out a new wireless adapter or get the old one to run the headset at full resolution. While I'm far happier with the resolution of the Vive Pro compared to the original Vive, it could definitely be better.
...And going back to wired isn't going to happen.
The Pro 2 does...
Did you make sure all the fans were spinning? If one goes out/is blocked/whatever, the others can spin at 100% after anything that would put load on the system occurs, even if the temperatures are fine. It happened to me once when I was working on a SFF build.
I lived in the bay area in 2008. I was amazed every time I stepped foot in Fry's Electronics. That was the only time in my life where I lived near a store like that. Best Buys may be everywhere, but they don't even remotely compare.
I wonder if I'll be in the proximity of a Micro Center...
If you're scoffing at $50, you probably won't want to do what I do, but I'm using Shure SE535 earbuds with a short 45cm FiiO MMCX cable. They work pretty well, as the cable is just about the right length for the headset. You can also freely swap the original long cable, a bluetooth cable, or the...
Well, the thread is alive again, so I'll update my list:
(some PCs before this that I had access to but did not own)
AMD Athlon 1GHZ
AMD XP 2600+
Intel Q6600
i5-2500k
i5-4790k
i7-7700k
Ryzen 7 5800x
Two 3070s, both from Newegg.
First was at launch, in a bundle. Added to cart from desktop, checked out on mobile.
Second was the first batch the morning after launch. Just the card, in the style I wanted. Same method.
I returned the first.
I ordered a 5800x from Newegg, and it was still listed as in stock for at least 5 minutes after I checked out.
Given that I never managed to get a 3080 (and settled on the 3070) I'm happy that I managed to snag one right away.
The more services there are, the more likely I am to just cancel them unless there's a backlog of material that I want to go through, and just alternate between them.
Netflix is cancelled now, and I won't re-subscribe until they have a new series that I really want to watch.
I really don't...
I'm just hoping that I'll be able to get one from Best Buy this month, as I've got a 10% birthday coupon that would be better spent on a CPU than a PS5.
...And if neither of those are available, uh... I dunno o_O
The 3070 looks to be way easier to get than the 3080. I ordered just the first one that I could find last night, then just stumbled on one in the style that I wanted this morning.
Looks like the 3070 is much easier to get. I managed to snag a 3070 Vision this morning, which is much more in like with the white and silver build that I'm going for, and the 3070 Gaming is now extra. I could sell it to someone here for near MSRP (plus what I paid for taxes and shipping, so I...
I picked up the 3070 combo. Adding to cart on the web then checking out in the app worked.
Looking forward to returning the PSU.
The funny thing is that I needed a PSU, but I had already purchased a Seasonic not long ago. Still unopened, too, as I'm waiting until I get my new CPU before putting...
Alright. Just gotta hop in the car to go to a Micro Center. The closest one is... 11 hours away? Uh...
I think that I'll go play Star Wars Squadrons on my 1070, instead.
Update on my lenses with the Quest 2:
I purchased the fit pack, and with the narrow faceplate, I'm now much happier with the fit and focus on the lenses. Getting the faceplate right is apparently much more important with the add-in lenses than with stock. The correct fit of the faceplate does a...
Just saying, it'll take a lot for me to walk away from my wireless Vive Pro (/w Index controllers) as my primary headset.
I'm tempted to get a Reverb G2 for seated games... but it's probably only going to be for that niche.
I bought a pair from VROptician for the Quest 2, and they're a bit difficult with this headset. Even with the glasses spacer, it becomes significantly more difficult to get the headset in a position where it is clear once they are installed.
It might be easier if they offered a wider glasses...
My recommendation is to get the Elite Headstrap with the Quest 2, but don't get their case. It's really finicky to get the headset in and out, and it feels like it was designed to look fancy as opposed to being easy to use. I had a cheapo 3rd party case with my Quest 1, and it was much easier...
The first 3D accelerator I ever had was the Voodoo Rush.
I think that came with Turok, which is at least the first 3D accelerated game that I remember.
As soon as I got a Vive, the 970 was no longer sufficient for me, though it was still a decent card for regular 1080p gaming.
With the Vive Pro, the 1070 I have now is pushing it.
And the 3080 that I'm wanting to get will probably have a rough time with the HP Reverb G2 that I have on preorder.
I think that the 3080 is going to seal me giving up on the NCase M1. It was nice, but I'm just feeling too constrained vs new video cards. It was pushing it before.
Aiming for compact mATX now, currently waiting on a Jonsbo UMX3 case to arrive (compact, fits most 3080s, still in silver color...
I placed an order for some $10 HyperX Fury 32GB ram. The seller had a ton of legit products at regular prices, so it was probably a price mistake. It will be interesting if the order doesn't get cancelled.
I made a post about a power supply about a week ago, ordered a Seasonic that afternoon, and it's shipping Monday. Not in-stock at the moment of order, but not much of a wait.
//Certainly easier than the 3080 craziness that's driving me nuts. The Vision was my preferred card, and I was mere...
I ordered a pair of these not long ago from VR Optician. I'm looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes.
For me, the biggest issue is double vision.
I ended up just switching to my main monitor instead of VR.
With the GTX 1070, I'm able to get between 70 and 100 FPS (120 HZ refresh rate) on a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor, and the frame pacing felt pretty bad, even with G-Sync.
I changed the refresh rate to 60, and it ran great after that...
I have both a Quest + link cable and a wireless Vive Pro, and am using a GTX 1070.
No amount of reduced settings will get my frame rate over 45 in the Vive (Half refresh rate) but on the Quest, I'm able to turn most settings all the way up, excluding the lighting and shadows ones, and can still...
I'm looking to revise my HTPC from an ITX case to a mATX case, and I want to put a RTX 3080 in there, which I've read wants at least a 750 watt PSU.
The old computer has a 600w SFX PSU, which probably isn't enough.
My go-to has been Seasonic, but their better ones at 750w are 170mm, so I'm...
