I picked up one of these laptops with a broken hinge and its serving me well to this day. Its an excellent way to save a few bucks on a great functioning laptop.

I still run several VGA setups. And what happens when I don't have a DVI cable? Almost everything has VGA ports... If anything I'd like them to keep every fkin port here out. Sometimes all I need is basic display.

A less than perfect method of streaming my videos to multiple devices was with Subsonic. I'm currently looking for an alternative - its clunky and my free trial ran out. BUT on the up side, there is a free trial, so you can give that a whirl and see if it meets your needs.

Hard drive might be going to sleep, I can't tell you exactly where it is, but if you fish around in either the drive properties or power management you should be able to find the option to turn it off.
