I don't have a multimeter. I have however check the volatges in the BIOS and they all seem normal although the DDR2 voltage is at 1.94v and I think it's supposed to be at 1.8v (my system is not overclocked). I've been running the computer all day and to stress it I had a heavy Crysis session...
No, you were lots of help. I think the reason the fuse blew was because there was just too much stuff on at the time. Tv's, lights, dishwasher etc... I have done a visual inspection and can't see any abnormalities with the PSU or Mobo and the computer has been on for a while since it happend...
Here I am working away on my sig computer and suddenly a fuse blows in my house. I hear a pop and my computer ofcourse is instantly shutoff. Anyway I replace the fuse and go to turn the power on and I hear two more pops coming from my computer. It's on right now and everything seems to be...
I really don't know what the big deal with Crysis is. My comp runs it with everything on Very High (execpt shadows set to High) and 4xAA at 1680x1050 with no slowdowns. The thing about Crysis is that you don't need high FPS to experience smooth gameplay. So just run it, enjoy the game and play it :)
Look at the screens I have posted and you'll see that for some reason my 512mb 4870 is using shared memory! Why is this? It has 512 dedicated. It seems to be using the Hypermemory feature found on crap budget video cards. Is Windows and the Cat Control Center wrong?
I've noticed that computers are pretty fast these days and it got me thinking about upgrades. Do you actually upgrade because you're computer is not performing or just because you either want to or feel you should? Be honest now.
Also, is there anyone here who has built a really fast computer...
My new Asus 4870 is very loud considering it only has a single slot cooler. I downloaded GPU-Z and it says that it's running at 50% (2600rpm) at the desktop. I'm wondering if it would be safe to turn it down to say 30% and leave it there, not just at the desktop but under gaming load too. Or...
You could be right about the clock rates. If you look at my Variable bench marks when 4xAA is turned on the 4850 lost 11 fps and the 4870 barely lost 1 fps. So I guess that's where the difference will be noticed. When AA is turned on. AA performance is where I found the 4850 lacking which is the...
Yeah I guess. The main thing that attracted me to the 4870 was my addiction to AA. The 4850 struggled with it. The 4870 seems to deal with it much better which pleases me. However I still can't figure out how the 4870 got 4 fps less than the 4850. I thought the 10.3 cats were supposed to boost...
I've noticed in my Catalyst control center that under the hardware tab it says my 512mb 4870 has 2048mb of memory and that the memory type is Hypermemory. Does this mean it's gobbling up my system RAM to use as Video RAM? Is it a good or a bad thing?
I can't increase my res anymore. It's only resident evil that's shown me a less than desirable result. I'm guessing once I crank up the AA and AF the 4870 will start to shine right? I hope so because the fan sounds like a leaf blower compared to my 4850 and I'm starting to wonder if the 4870 was...
I didn't think that video memory made much of a difference at 1680x1050. With AA turned on I guess I can see the advantage the 4870 has due to it having almost twice the memory bandwidth however I was expecting more.
I've just upgraded my MSI Radeon 4850 OC Gamer Edition 512mb video card to an Asus Extreme 4870 512mb card. Yes a small upgrade I know but the 4870 was a steal and I couldn't resist. Anyway I just installed the card along with the new 10.3 Cats and removed my 4850 and the 10.2 cats it was...
I currently am running a 320gb WD Caviar Blue and I'm thinking of upgrading to a 500gb WD Caviar Black. Apart from space and slightly shorter load times would I see any other differences in games? Thanks.
UPDATE: I just purchased an Antec Neo Eco 620W PSU like suggested. It seems like a seriously solid unit. Also I picked up an Asus Extreme AH 4870 to replace my 4850. I know it's a minor upgrade but the 4870 was dirt cheap and I'll be able to resell my 4850 and nearly recover all costs off the...
This one. http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=11444
Or are there any around the same price on that site that you would recommend?
I just ran my signature set up (with a 4890 in place of my current 4850) through this antec psu calculator http://www.antec.outervision.com/
It said that I'd only use 340w all up. Surely my 460W Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus PSU would be fine running a Radeon 4890 then right? (In addition...
Thanks I think you've helped me make up my mind. It will do for another six months atleast. I would just grab a 4890 right now but having to buy another PSU also really does not make the purchase worthwhile.
Well so far I have been very happy with the performance of the 4850 and it really hasn't let me down yet. I'm not in a position to crossfire with my motherboard. I have some spare cash laying around which is what got the cogs turning toward an upgrade but I'm not one to pay release prices for...
Yes that's true but it won't drop by as much as I'd want it too (like to the level that the 4890 is now). In that case, would it be worth it going from a 4850 to 4890 at my resolution?
I'm thinking of upgrading my MSI 4850 512mb card to a 4890 however I'm wondering if it's even worth it because I only game at 1680x1050 and would also have to upgrade my PSU. Is it worth the cost and hassle or should I wait a year until the 5850 drops in price? The 5770 does not interest me...
