ZDNet is reporting about trouble at Google's web app store, which reminded me that I interviewed with a couple of add-on creators last year. I didn't ask how they made money because it was implied, if you know what I mean.

This noobster needs help.
I have spun an Ubuntu Server 18.04 for the purpose of running Quake Live, and other game servers, via the LinuxGSM utility. Yeah, setting up Quake 3 server way simpler. Everything has gotten too complex :/
Said OS is living inside an updated VirtualBox (6.1) on a...
EDIT: ISSUE WAS RESOLVED WITH A CLEAN INSTALL OVER THE PREVIOUS PERFECTLY CLEAN W10 PRO INSTALL. SHIT HAPPENS
Original first post
I am having a horrible morning. Since most of my VR games do not work on Linux, I've decided to buy a sata ssd and install Windows 10 on it.
So I got an OEM license...
Here's something you don't read every day. It reminded me of that YT: Jim Keller: Moore’s Law is Not Dead video where, among other interesting things, he also shared his views about abstractions and how they're not inherently bad.
This is especially hilarious to me since just yesterday my boss...
I've had enough of waiting for a normally priced 3900x so I ordered two 3700x and a 5700. Already have a 1070.
An HTPC and a desktop gaming machine. Both ought to run Linux and do well at 1080 and VR titles at somewhat acceptable framerates.
Question is, which distribution is most up for the...
Did you guys have fun watching Deepmind Play StarCraft 2 at Noon back in January? I know I did.
Well, now we can play against the Stalker making machine. I've been playing StarCraft 2 almost every day since it launched 8 or 9 years ago. Just started the game and was prompted with their opt-in...
It's almost as if we're getting older and various companies are realizing they can make good money repackaging their old stuff. Now, where did my rose-tinted glasses go? Ah, here they are. Let's see:

Not sure to feel about this. I love id Software games but I have never cared about their personal lives, even on the job. Listening to Carmack talk about stuff on stage, or during an interview is one thing, but "the process" is their business. What do you think?
Ugh, it seems like the image cannot be hotlinked.
Gigabit ehternet, USB3, dual 4k output, 1, 2 or 4GB ram
That image says it all, isn't it? Besides more (optional) RAM and a modest CPU and GPU upgrade, they are kind of positioning the Pi as an entry level desktop computer.
There appear to be...
I am currently exiled to an HTPC running Ubintu 14.04 and Haswell CPU with just iGPU.
I thought I'd missed the big news but the web doesn't seem to care.
Can anyone confirm this? I really don't want to download 70 gigs. It's not going to run on an iGPU
No, there hasn't been an update to the browser itself. The problem seem to be somewhere on Mozilla's back-end, and apparently affects all add-ons.
Everything was working fine when I went to sleep 7 hours ago. Then I woke up and boom: the web is working normally. I've been browsing with NoScript...
In a news that shouldn't surprise anyone, Amazon has admitted that employees review "small sample" of Alexa audio.
Of course, Amzn is not alone in this
And that's just the big guys. So, go ahead and buy MORE Telescreens* for you house.
The contents of Bloomberg's article shouldn't surprise...
I am an itchy guy. I like shooters like Quake and Doom, even UT2003/4. They don't require the same skills car games do.
I suck at racing games and I suck at Distance. But I was bored out of my mind so I decided to give it a shot: cci-fi, pretty good music, nice graphics, runs on linux. Thank...
Having computers in a network is nice. Having useful apps running on top of it is even better. But we're living in the information age. A time when mega-corps and governments are racing to simultaneously gather our information and more or less curate what comes our way, too. Oppressive communist...
You can read the whole press release and make up your own mind. Personally, I welcome their pushes towards a real digital single market. But as someone who has worked with some of these publishers (and dealt with people), I know they simply will not do the right thing on their own.
You're "gone" for a few days and suddenly everything has to update and it takes forever.
Cant play properly with 50-90 because I want things to download in the background.
These days most significant updates are new build of the entire game with your config and progress (in single player games)...
So, I don't remember firing the Epic launcher in quite some time. Or maybe I did by mistake and just don't remember. Franky it doesn't matter. That little fucker has managed to update itself with a run at startup option.
Not cool, fuckers. Nice doing business with you.
I understand the need to protect e-mails. However there's plenty of "[email protected]" in people's signatures and now this. Can't even see the poster's name until I hit quote/reply because it s a protected e-mail :D
It is a bit ridiculous to protect every string without an empty space...
For me it's strategy games. I love StarCraft games, Company of Heroes, Civilization. I also liked Commandos and sucked at that, too.
Now, losing is not meant to be a pleasant experience since this is how we learn. Ant yet not all losing is equal. It's one thing to get out played in a slower...
Lately I find myself more and more annoyed of the sound computers generate.
My Haswell based HTPC is literally the least noisy PC at my home, beating my tower and laptops by a large margin. Really happy with my Fractal Design Node 304 case.
While it's a nice case, I am not sure whether...
So, I was watching this:
A llive streamed charity event where people did speeds runs (while explaining everything to us) when they mentioned this other channel where the real HL2 crazies live.
Man, oh man. I've seen plenty of speed runs over the last 20 years but this is something else...
I like Ubuntu on laptops, desktops and workstations.
Lilnux is great but there are a few major problems when it comes to gaming. Such as wine being good but still causing problems. Like with the blizzard launcher that we are sort of forced to run.
Yeah, I am willing to live with that but now...
MAME is a great piece of software but very hard to setup and use conveniently from the couch.
There's nothing wrong with vanilla MAME and it works great but there are features like auto fire, scroll-able rom list, and art so that I can tell a game looking at a huge image instead of tiny text...
As an old guy with 15+ years of Quake service, I have to say these changes are nice. FFA is way more fun now. Just lost an hour in that carnage. Somehow Quake 3 feels even more like an arena now. I mean it.
I am platinum level Protoss. My APM is not high, my strategies are non-existent, my timings suck, my execution abilities come and go. I am your typical noob that rarely misses a GSL Code S match.
It's been a few weeks since I got into the beta and I have to say I like where Blizzard is going...
Anyone else buy it? id surely released it very quiet. Best spent 5 euro in a long time.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/209460/
- 5 new missions
- 3 new weapons (nailgun, railgun, hmm, forgot the other one)
- new difficulty, this time it's difficult alright
- extended play
So far I...
