I'm moving and need to sell the desktop I built a few years ago. I really have no idea how computers depreciate and am wondering how much you think I should ask for it.
Specs:
Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) Processor
MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti N660TI PE...
Do you think it makes a difference network performance-wise?
I'll probably never use it again after this PC and I have two PCI slots available, but only one PCIe (which makes me want to get the PCI version if it will work just as well).
I believe a power surge over my cable line from a lightning strike damaged the Ethernet circuitry on my motherboard:

I'm not sure what you mean by "paging," but my memory utilization is usually 80+% in task manager and I keep getting popups from Windows saying there's not enough memory and advising me to close applications.
I'm doing web development, programming, photo editing, etc. I do a lot of...
Thanks for all of your replies!
I think I might go with the Crucial VLP Sport. It's $20 cheaper than the G.SKILL Ares and is on Amazon (faster shipping & easier to return if there are problems).
I'll probably pull the trigger this weekend if anyone else has any input!
Right, but if the cables were damaged, then it seems like the Ethernet wouldn't work at all. Since the problem is only when the computer wakes up from sleep (as well as every once in a while when it's on), it doesn't seem like it would be a problem with the cables.
Hmm.. I was leaning towards the Crucial RAM, but searching through the documents on the page you linked to, I couldn't find the model number in there anywhere. Does that mean it won't work with the motherboard, or just that ASUS didn't test that particular model with it?
I posted on here a few months ago intending to buy new RAM then, but money became an issue and I wasn't able to do it. Now I"m ready to purchase, but thought I'd ask one more time before I pull the trigger.
I have this motherboard...
I actually have not tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ethernet driver. I never thought that might be an issue since that's a software and not hardware thing. I can try it, though.
No, I didn't replace the ethernet cables. Could that really be the issue?
There was a lightning strike near my house a few months ago and ever since then whenever I wake my desktop up from sleep, it is disconnected from the internet and takes about 20 seconds before it connects.
Every once in a while (once a day or less), internet connectivity drops out when I'm in...
Windows 7.
I know, the RAM I purchased has doubled in price! Why did that happen?
Thanks for your suggestion. I'll probably end up going with that, then :) I can't believe it's $300, though, since my 16GB just cost me $90 bucks last year
I built a computer about a year ago with the following hardware:
Case: Corsair Carbide Series 500R
GPU: MSI N660 Ti PE 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit
PSU: Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W
RAM: 2 x G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (total of 16GB)
CPU fan...
I don't know if it's possible or not, but I was thinking the surge might have come over the cable line, because my current setup for power is this:
Wall outlet -> Power strip -> Lamp
-> Scanner
-> CyberPower UPS -> LCD monitor...
Usually when there's a storm I unplug all of my electronics, but yesterday we had some light rain and not thinking it was necessary, I didn't. So, naturally, there was a lightning strike near my house :(
A bunch of GFCI outlets in my house tripped, I heard a very loud crackle/sparking/popping...
I put a Crucial m4 128GB SSD in my laptop about a year and a half ago and when I built my desktop I used it as main drive. Considering that it's getting kind of old for an SSD (I know they have a tendency to fail after a while), I'd like to get a new one.
I'm going to be reinstalling Windows...
Hey, the case lights button is actually useful. I like having the lights on because they look cool, but when I'm watching a movie on my PC I want the lights off so it's dark in the room.
On the 500R the reset button is circular and just below and to the right of the case lights on/off switch:
I keep trying to link to an image of the front of the case here, but the forum keeps removing the domain name. Whatever.
I hardly ever turn the case lights on/off, so I've forgotten which...
I've accidentally pressed the "reset button" on my 500R a couple of times instead of the case lights on/off button, and it seems like it should be called the "crash button."
Seriously, what's the point?
So, after placing my initial order, where I had decided not to buy the extra 8 GB of RAM to save money, I realized that was kind of a stupid decision since the RAM would only add $45 bucks to the ~$1,100 cost of the computer. After coming to this realization, I ordered the extra RAM and it...
I figured it out!
Apparently the motherboard outputs the error message if the fan is not at 600 rpm at the post screen. From what I read while researching this, this fan is quite large and so it takes longer than that to reach 600 rpm. I changed the 600 rpm setting in the BIOS to 500 rpm and...
What do you mean "the wrong way round"? The connector cannot be rotated 180 degrees because there's a groove in the connector that fits into the header. Also, the fan does spin.
Here's the pic again: http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff481/RoboticsGuy/20120823_224610.jpg
Any idea what...
The heatsink fan is connected to what I believe is the CPU fan port, but there is a header adjacent to it and I'm not sure what that is. This is what it looks like:

Amazingly the first piece of advice I read in the guide (remove a stick of RAM) worked, and a screen comes up on the monitor now!
It says "CPU Fan Error!" though. Does that indicate that I hooked up the fan incorrectly?
Thanks Danny!
I turned on the computer and there was no smoke :)
However, I have the computer hooked up to a monitor over both VGA and HDMI and there is no video output from either the motherboard or graphics card.
What should I do?
I received all of the parts today and started building it this evening!
This is my first time building a computer, so I've been taking it slow and researching things I'm confused on to make sure I'm doing things correctly (that's the idea, at least :D).
I think I've made pretty good progress...
What are you guys using to calibrate this monitor? I purchased two 2412's from Amazon, along with a Spyder4Pro, and after calibrating whites are very, very dim. With the calibration turned off, whites look great. The colors look much better overall using the calibration, but the whites just look...
Ha ha, yes a little late :)
I'm not sure it will be overkill, though, because some things I do in Photoshop, such as image stacking, take around 10 or 15 minutes to process one image with my current computer's Core 2 Duo T9300. I'm hoping the i7 will drastically reduce that time, as it really...
Sorry to post so many times in a row, but I just wanted to let you know that for better or for worse, I placed the order!
Thanks so much for your help, everyone!
I'm about to place my order! Any last minute thoughts?
As a side note, will this desktop it be able to handle Photoshop, CAD programs, and an occasional game fairly well?
Not necessarily, but since the cost of allowing myself that option is negligible compared to the cost of the entire build I might as well buy the more expensive motherboard.
Well, I just meant the computer as a whole, not specifically the motherboard.. But I guess that's a "yes"?
Nope, I didn't see the combo. I'm actually rather confused on how you guys keep coming up with combo deals  For instance, for the P8Z77-V I only see a combo deal for an i5...
