ACID's For Sale Thread: Cisco 1841 router for sale

For sale: Cisco 1841. Works PERFECT, came from a low-load work environment to an even lower-load home environment. Has 32MB CF, 128MB ram, WIC-1T serial and VPN module. I hate to sell it (seriously, love this router) but I need money more than corporate security and performance at...

Time Warner Cable Tries Metering Internet Use

It's beaumont. I used to live in beaumont. That said, I am not surprised in the slightest. For those of you that have never been there, it is a small town that wants to be big, and the economy and "technical mindset" is influenced by a small number of big whigs. Oil and god knows what...

    Need help Building server/desktop

I would go 8 gigs of ram and a 64 bit OS if you want to run 4 vmware instances (assuming all 4 at once). Otherwise 4GB and 2003 will be fine.

    RAID 5 vs RAID 10

Agreed here as well. 10k/RAID5. ~300 gigs storage, parity, hot spare. Hard to beat that :) I used the same on my fileserver, but 400GB 7200rpm SATA drives instead. Works great, love it.

Disabling internet access but not network access?

set dns to 10.1.1.1 for the ones you want off the web. All network services will remain "active", but you won't be able to browse the web unless you have a dns server at 10.1.1.1 on your local LAN, or unless someone remembers the IP address of yahoo.com etc, haha.

SSH Brute Forcing and Reporting It

Absolutely. Any hack attempts are to be taken serious and are potentially criminal offenses. I had a kid in Quebec dropped by his ISP because he defaced my forum. I could have continued with his local PD, but decided that forcing him to read books or go outside for entertainment was...

Cheapest gigabit switch with 1000sx uplink

Define "won't cost me too much" ;) Gig ethernet with 1000SX uplink port isn't going to be cheap.

are our dns settings ok or would it cause open relay issues?

Well, the server, if it has relay features (most do) should be able to set itself as the source IP for all email that goes through it. One would think so, anyways. As for how to do it on that software...I have no clue.

    Post Your RocketFish pics/mods

He's a boston terrier mix. We don't know the other half of the mix; even after genetic testing it's still unclear haha. He's a hoot though, very spunky and grouchy, but in a funny way.

are our dns settings ok or would it cause open relay issues?

Oh I'm following you now. If the campaign box is relaying through the mailserver, can you configure the server to check the header and rewrite the IP field for all relays?

are our dns settings ok or would it cause open relay issues?

I would NAT the mailserver to a public IP and block all ports except the ones needed, and have it in a physical DMZ outside of the network for that reason. That way you have it mapped to a public IP and if it becomes compromised, it won't compromise the rest of your network.

    Aqua Teen/Mooninite ?

Hahaha! Love it. I like the LEDs most of course, but I think you should make him the front anyways, with the DVD ejecting out of his mouth. That would be awesome :D

    Terminal Server vs VPN

Haha... I wouldn't trust an RDP port open to the web on a production server, especially on the default port 3389. That's just begging for something. I don't know exactly what, but SOMETHING. Then again, I don't trust a single MS service to be open to the web.

    LL quality?

I agree. Take that dude back and insist on non-returns only in the future. Not sure I would continue to go through that local dealer, as well.
