As far as keyboard/mouse... I should get a wireless keyboard/mouse when playing games... Mostly I play strategy games... so I need keyboard/mouse.
The only thing is that sometimes I can sit for hours and I don't know how comfortable it would be on a sofa... To place keyboard/mouse I thought...
OK...
I was just a bit concerned... I'm just so used to playing on my monitor (so near ~ 2ft) ... that I have been uneasy about gaming my Plasma (1080p) and have TV about 10ft away... I don't know if I can get used to the distance...
On a side note... what would be recomended to use as...
Hi,
I have been thinking about building a HTPC... And I am now considering building HTPC to include gaming in my living room.
Currently I game on my desktop and my 30" Monitor is about 2 ft away when sitting on my desk.
In my living room, my 60" Plasma is about 10 ft away from sofa...
Yes, makes sense to have a NAS in this scenario.
Doing a bit more research... Looks like Intel may be coming out with Haswell that includes HD 4600 (or 5000) Which should be better than HD4000.
Release date is possibly June. I'm in no rush to get HTPC... But, I probably won't see a need...
The only thing I can think of... is not including a NAS you can have a smaller case.
I do have a desktop and I can possibly add storage there...
Also, I do have Logitech Squeeze box... but it needs to access my PC so I need to turn it on.... Having a NAS, you don't need to worry about...
I've been thinking about this... I understand that a NAS is always on... but question is... does it make sense to have a NAS ? Why not integrate it with HTPC ?
Anand states the following:
Llano, while being pretty decent for HTPC use, didn't excite us enough to recommend it wholeheartedly. Intel's Ivy Bridge, on the other hand, surprised us with its HTPC capabilities.
Discrete HTPC GPUs are necessary only if one has plans to upgrade to 4K in the...
FYI,
Figured it out... I had proxy server on... after disabling... I started getting all updates... Album art work fine now... well expect for a TV Show (Games of Thrones).
I did have some issues with some movies but after renaming them... I get all album work.
I really do like XBMC :)...
Ceton Companion... looks very interesting... I will continue investigating this app...
Yes, I figured a NAS server would be the ideal solution.
Thanks for the heads up.
Note: I was also looking at Collectorz.com (these seems an extensive software to catalog your movie collection) but...
So, I am back with plans on building a HTPC... (Looks like I gave up searching by the time the above comment was posted.)
My main reason for giving up on HTPC is because I did not find a suitable way to control my PC with my IPad. For music, I did buy a Logitech Squeeze Box and use IPad app...
Yes, I want to connect my pre/pro using HDMI... So, if I'm using a receiver no need for sound card or DAC to get best audio quality ?
Yes, I have tried Foobar2000, very good in playing music.. but I'm looking for a music software that can display album art on my TV... so I suppose a media...
OK... So I need more help...
Initially, I wanted to get a HTPC to do music, movies & TV shows....
In reality, I wanted HTPC to play high res music and all the rest were nice to haves...
I didn't find a nice IPad app to control HTPC so I gave up... and started looking at music servers...
BTW, Messing around with Windows Media Center... checking different shows... picture quality is not very good... seems like standard definition. I currently don't have a tuner but is this normal ?
When watching netflix/HBO GO on my PC monitor... it looks very good.
How do you tell if shows...
Are you suggesting that I can match or surpass my Blu Ray Player OPPO BDP-93 with a HTPC ? Will I be able to get DTS TRUE HD from a HTPC ?
Also, once in a while I do watch Netflix... Will Netflix be better thru HTPC or OPPO ?
I've done a bit more research...
1. Considering GT640 (HQV 2.0 result = 178) vs Radeon HD 7750 (HQV 2.0 result = 193). The 7750 looks better than NVIDIA ?
2. Doesn't appear that I need a separate sound card ?
3. For case.. Currently looking at Antec NSK 2480
Couple more questions...
1. Do I need to buy a sound card ? Obviously, I want the best audio quality possible... In my main gear I have a HT | OMEGA Claro Halo XT sound card... which sound really good. I will be plugging to my AVR
2. What is the best video card for HTPC ? Should I be...
Calibrating my display ? Actually I do have my plasma TV calibrated... not sure if that's what u mean...
When you say not being able to do much for picture quality... what does that mean ? I won't get a good pic quality ? If I plan to stream movies... for example HBO GO via eg Internet...
I really don't have a price range... But probably will top 1,500.
I did not get my pre-pro Integra for a HTPC... This is what I have in my current Home Theater living room mainly to watch Blu Ray movies. I would like to add a HTPC and connect it to my AVR
Ideally, as mentioned before... I...
Hi,
I'm looking for recommendation for a hometheater PC.
Basically, I would like to stream Spotify & movies (for example HBO GO) and I would like the best audio/picture quality. Right now I'm not downloading movies/music but It's possible in the future.
Initially I was thinking of...
I used to have a desktop mic before. I switched to PC 360 with included mic... Using the mic from PC360 was excellent and much better than using desktop mic. In general, desktop mic's pickup more background noise, also the audio from mic was much better from desktop mic.
Yes, I have no doubt that having a receiver would be better... but again, I will assume that most people don't have receivers and use analog sound. For those people including myself who use analog sound, sound cards is the way to go.
OK.... I have never tried the S/PDIF either from MOBO or sound card. I use the analog sound. In order to use S/PDIF, I suppose u need a receiver... and probably would be nice to have a receiver, but I have no space for this and I assume that most people don't have a receiver connected to their...
FYI,
From my experience, MOBO sound sucks. I also wondered whether I would need a sound card with my MOBO... considering I have a good MOBO. When I compared X-Fi with MOBO... ufff, no comparison. Sound sucked when using MOBO. That said, I recently upgraded from X-Fi Fatality from about 3...
Well, I finally received my Sennheiser PC 360. PC 360 was a replacement for ATH-A900.
Well, comparing it to my ATH-A900....
Comfortwise: ... uff, no comparison... ATH-A900 wins by a long shot. Maybe overtime PC 360 will break in and I'll feel better ? dunno.
Sound: I'm still undecided...
You can get HP ZR30W for about $1,100. I was also on the fence between U3011 & ZR30W about a month ago. I haven't seen Dell's U3011, but I received my ZR30W about a month ago.. and I'm definitely happy with this monitor. I was concerned that I would be too big for my desk vs my old 24"... but...
Having a separate headphone & mic is not ideal. I got same... headphone with separate mic. Both real good... especially mic... but mic picks up all background noise but for a good headset, mic should reduce most background noise...
Beyer was actually my first choice... I would have sprung for Beyer MMX 300, but this version is a USB headset... Since I did not want USB headsets... I went with Sennheiser PC 360. I think that USB headsets were really meant for laptops users.
Update: MMX 300 has an optional USB...
Integrated audio in MOBO sucks... You did ask for what's best for gaming right ? If you don't want to spring for a sound card, then maybe USB headsets are for you.
If you want the best.... Avoid USB headsets. A good headset should be paired with a good sound card. I was asking the same question you have... After some research, I decided to get Sennheiser PC 360 (I should be getting PC 360 next week).
Well, if it was negatively written.. maybe it's because it needs more cowbells... :)
So what you are saying is that reviewers don't have a hand with the product ?
Sorry to dissapoint ... but a review came up on anandtech.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3989/corsair-hs1-gaming-headset
It doesn't fare well for Corsair USB headset. It needs more cow bells !!! LOL
The better you hear the game, the better you the in game immersion. Also, being able to easily mute mic and having mic reduce external noise is also important.
