Windows 10 black screen when coming out of sleep

Reverted my changes and it did go back to recovering tabs/apps when I have to smother it with the power button.

Windows 10 black screen when coming out of sleep

This is not a 100% of the time issue, but it's getting more and more frequent and is really quite annoying; it's nearing 100% in the past few weeks. I put my computer into sleep mode and various times when I wake it via the power button (it does not wake from the mouse or keyboard even though...

Power up from sleep mode, see lock screen, then hard restart

I was running it from USB; I wonder if some of the applications on there aren't able to work that way? It's not a Hirens supported method of use, just what I could put together.

Power up from sleep mode, see lock screen, then hard restart

Well, something ain't right. Maybe these utilities were made too long before my hardware was made or maybe I'm dumb as a rock. The HGST vendor utility doesn't even find my hard drives, the HD tester on the Hiren's CD starts to run but then does nothing. The memtest86 on Hirens starts to run...

Power up from sleep mode, see lock screen, then hard restart

I guess I'm not seeing anything about motherboard tests. There are several graphic checkers and RAM checkers but I don't see much else. I went into DOS programs and browsed around; the whole utility says Hiren's Boot CD 15.2 across the top. Just now the PC restarted when coming out of sleep...

Power up from sleep mode, see lock screen, then hard restart

So, what was this Hirens thing supposed to do for me? I ran memtest 86 from it, that didn't even work. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and found no errors. I still have the spinners disconnected and now the PC is restarting itself during use maybe once every two days or so. The clicking...

Power up from sleep mode, see lock screen, then hard restart

So far it's 2 for 2 starting up, which isn't that significant except for the problem had been 100% fail rate. There may, however, be more to the story. The indicator LEDs on the motherboard, which aren't visible when the case isn't open, suggest my RAM may also have some issues but I'll save...

Power up from sleep mode, see lock screen, then hard restart

About 10 seconds after posting my original, the machine restarted by itself, which is a new trouble. Took me several tries to get back into Windows at all. Primary drive is SSD but there are 3x spindle drives in RAID and I'd be more than happy to unplug them all and see what that does.

Power up from sleep mode, see lock screen, then hard restart

There has been lightning lately, did something in my power supply or motherboard get damaged? I put my computer to sleep as I always have. Since the 17th, though, when I try to power on from sleep via the power button it will do a hard reset with an audible click inside the machine. I have...

Changing a motherboard to RAID mode without losing data on non-RAID disk?

After changing my google search terms I did find a bunch of guides. My bad; please delete this thread as it's very useless.

Changing a motherboard to RAID mode without losing data on non-RAID disk?

For several months I've had a single HD system in AHCI mode. Now, I've added 3x new HDs that I want to RAID 5. I can make them RAID 5 no problem, but when I set the motherboard to RAID enabled, the boot drive is no longer bootable even though it is not a member of any RAID group. I don't...

What kind of hardware does a noob need?

This one is $80 possibly due to the ugly color. I'm not sure the size of the actual drawing area but it is listed at 6.7 x 8.25... that could be overall though. I've seen it cheaper as well but it seems like maybe the thing to go for as a beginner/tinkerer.

What kind of hardware does a noob need?

Just to give the thread some closure, I guess I overestimated the level of control she wanted. She did a few finger drawings on her phone that end up sort of looking like a pen outline with watercolor and that's really all she wanted. Tried a cheap Android tablet from Amazon and it was a...

What kind of hardware does a noob need?

Yeah, I think that sounds reasonable. Currently looking at the Surface 3 (not pro) plus pen ~$560 but I do see some people using HP convertibles with a Dell pen. Seems like palm and multitouch problems are pervasive in the latter.

What kind of hardware does a noob need?

I suggested the Wacom tablet idea as a cheap way to get started but she has in her mind that she wants to draw straight onto the tablet. So, I figured there must be a Bluetooth pressure sensitive pen somewhere that will work on any Windows or Android tablet but I guess I figured wrong. I'm...

What kind of hardware does a noob need?

SP4 would be great except those are $900-1500. I did see some Surface 3 machines in the $500 range but with an Atom processor. It isn't like she's suddenly going to become a professional designer (well, she might but... if that happens budgets will change accordingly) so even if it's somewhat...

What kind of hardware does a noob need?

The wife's laptop is getting very old, and she's suggested she wants her next machine to be a tablet. Now, she is saying she wants to get into some digital design using her new tablet. Our house is an Apple-free zone. I don't know hardly anything about the hardware or software one might use...

    Critique my next build

On the HD, my original build had Samsung Spinpoint M8 drives (smaller capacity so I needed more than one; planned to do RAID 5 with 3 drives or something) to reduce noise and power consumption. Having three drives, though, seemed to make that a worse option. I'm not finding any 5400rpm desktop...

Need assistance troubleshooting a strange WiFi problem

I re-wired everything up the way I like it (no extension cords, smaller USB hub, etc) and it stopped working. This time, I had a brain flash (not quite as good as a spark of brilliance) and remembered that the USB cordless keyboard I'm using is actually *wireless* not cordless. As in, it isn't...

    Critique my next build

I'll keep an eye on that PSU in case that deal is one of those that recurs now and again but I'm not able to pull the trigger today. I do also prefer Samsung and am hopeful that at the time of purchase the Samsung will be at least within 10% of the Sandisk price-wise. As for the spinner, I...

    Critique my next build

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BGxggs I've already purchased the case ($60 shipped, very pleased) and I am waiting for Pascal for the graphics card. I have a GTX 670 I'll use until then. The goals for this build are: 1. Low heat - also read 'low power consumption' 2. Low noise 3. Longevity -...

Need assistance troubleshooting a strange WiFi problem

I was able to get a driver+software package from the manufacturer. It is 3007.3.0715.2014_ISS_1.01.0243.Win8x.X86.L if anyone Googling the problem happens to come across this page. Since then (though it hasn't been much time) it has worked as well as one could expect from a PC smaller than a...

Also, both the USB NIC and the internal produce the same result... Logically it shouldn't be a driver issue unless generic Windows drivers are the actual problem.

Need assistance troubleshooting a strange WiFi problem

No, that isn't hard but finding a driver for generic network devices has always been a witch hunt for me before and it's proving to be the same again. It's RTL8723BS and Realtek lists absolutely nothing for it. I've found one from Dell I will attempt to use. Weirdo probably-a-virus driver...

Need assistance troubleshooting a strange WiFi problem

I usually open up the connection status window to see what it's doing and thought it generally bombs down to 1-6.5Mb/s when it's sucking, during the times it works fine it connects at 72-150Mb/s. I think that's evidence enough that it isn't on 802.11b. The actual item is this...

Need assistance troubleshooting a strange WiFi problem

Picture two adjacent rooms. Room A has a wireless router (TP-Link TL 3600) and then on the other side of the wall between the rooms is a TV. The rest of room B has laptops and people using their phones on the wireless and everything works splendidly. I installed a mini PC stick from Quantum...

    Asus PB278Q vs Benq GW2765HT

I ended up getting the HP Envy 32 to get more size. I upgraded from a 24" 1920x1200 and the relative size of everything seems about the same; meaning more screen real estate with no added strain on the eyeballs reading small text. It's a 2k screen, which I went for so I wouldn't have to...

    Asus PB278Q vs Benq GW2765HT

I'm pretty dang ready to pull the trigger on one of these beasts but I really have no idea which one to grab. Primary difference between the two from my perspective is that one is IPS, which seems to me like a trendier buzzword, while the other is PLS, which I also have no clue what it *really*...

[project] What would a kicka** home network look like?

Nothing yet, going to set up some VMs and play with a couple different software offerings first. Probably the WDR3600 or a very close variant though. I have an old-ish system with a bad GPU (I think) that I'll reconfig to be a file server. It runs a Q6600 though and I'm not sure I want that...

[project] What would a kicka** home network look like?

To a certain extent this project is about learning how stuff works. A bit of security and Linux are on my to-learn list so adding more-than-necessary security is fine. I've heard the phrase "you can build a good Linux firewall really cheap" so that was kind of my starting point. Side note...

I mean disable the routing capability of the box I have now so it becomes a modem and add a "second" router to be the only router on the network... Define "proper firewall" please? Sorry for using so many quotes. If there's any grammar Nazis on here just note that I hate overquoting too...

[project] What would a kicka** home network look like?

Writing this down for my own benefit: NVG589 is the device I've got and bridge mode should be a 30-second adjustment. I need to poke around in the settings (still doing paperwork every **** night from relocation, not sure if I mentioned that at all) and see what all is there. Being a...

[project] What would a kicka** home network look like?

Still trying to understand the NAT thing. Read a little bit and here is my best guess: NAT translates WAN traffic into local IP addresses so the right network PC gets the right data... having two NATs back to back like a router and then another router would confuse the second NAT. Bridge mode...

[project] What would a kicka** home network look like?

The problem I see with ECC is this train of thought: Even among hardcore computer hobbyists, almost no one has spare server hardware lying around. This means a purchase of more-expensive-than-usual parts that the hobbyist likely has no experience with. Server operating systems are much more...

    Ebay flooded with fake GPUs

I must chime in and say you are 1000% wrong on this statement. Everything from China is straight up cheaper than what you could get made elsewhere, but none of it is better. If you aren't able to see the differences in craftsmanship, engineering, and materials, then the products from China are...

Yeah, I guess I hadn't really thought of smaller racks but I still kind of feel like as soon as you get into a rack you've kind of moved from a home network into a ... I dunno ... enthusiast/hobbyist network maybe? Now, this is entirely subjective and will be influenced nearly 100% by opinion...
