Perhaps we quibble over terms here. It sounds like you're pining for better configuration options - video cards, bigger standard HD, more standard RAM, etc. Typically, this is called a refresh or just a configuration change. To a point, that's fair enough. But while resellers such as CDW...
Guys. . .my comments were about what is - not what should be. Sure it would be nice to have a workstation gaming rig. . .but gaming just is not the target market for the Mac Pro. It just isn't. The target market for the Mac Pro is design professionals - who, for the most part, are just fine...
I too was wondering what the OP really expects from a Mac Pro. Historically, Apple hasn't included the absolute newest video cards in anything. Because their target audience for machines such as the Mac Pro generally find the video card options provided by Apple to be perfectly acceptable...
I'm not sure Camino or Firefox will be any faster than Safari 2.x. If you want speed, look at OmniWeb. The only problem I have with it is there are a few pages I use which don't render properly. Probably worth giving it a go, however.
What was the configuration your ordered? If it's a standard box configuration, why not see if CDW or Small Dog have them? If it's a custom config, is it such that you can get a standard config and do the upgrades (memory, HD, etc) yourself?
More often than not, if a product has been out for...
In 10+ years of Mac sales, my experience is that if someone doesn't buy AppleCare at the time they buy their machine then it's very unlikely that they'll buy it later. Things happen, they forget, etc.
I did say that I wished Apple OR THE MOBILE CARRIER (AT&T) would offer phone insurance - which is available for virtually every other mobile phone. I simply expressed a wish that AT&T (or Apple) would offer a service which they currently do not. And it's not like I said that they should...
AppleCare for iPhone Page
Basically, it's $69 to extend your hardware coverage to 2 years from date of purchase. Like all AppleCare products, it's simply a warranty extension and does not cover accidents, abuse, etc.
Personally, with a mobile phone I'm much more concerned about losing or...
Here's what you'll need -
- In leiu of Wndows Media Player, use the free download of Flip4Mac. This will allow Windows Media files to play in Quicktime. There is/was a Windows Media Player for Mac, but it hasn't been updated in a LONG time. Flip4Mac is much better and more current.
- MS...
As I mentioned previously in this thread. . .about the only reasons for new hardware are larger storage and/or HSDPA capability. And when the time is right to integrate those into the iPhone will laregly depend on factors outside of Apple's direct control. Most everything else can be done via...
What do you mean? In several hundred OSX installs there's never been an authorization, hardware, software, or otherwise.
Now, if you mean that you can only install OSX on Apple-branded hardware, that is correct - but totally irrelavent to the point Optional was making about a much smoother...
Dude. . .since you've started this thread, we've done our best to explain to you what 3G is. And yes, the interpretations vary somewhat. You've said that you still have questions, but to this point have no questions that haven't been answered. You say you're still confused, but have not said...
Here's what I consider your best options -
Option 1 - TOTAL = $1557
New MacBook @ $1299
Upgrade to 2GB RAM - $100
Parallels Desktop - $67
Windows XP Home OEM - $90
Option 2 - TOTAL = $1690
Refurbished 15" MacBook Pro - 2.16GHz Core2Duo @ $1499
Up the memory to 2GB - $100
WIndows XP Home OEM -...
Your last question was "so, my verizon razr is a 3g phone then? (since it has an EVDO icon usually)." The way I read that, it's a yes/no question. If you'd have bothered to google the search terms I suggested you would have discovered that yes, your RAZR is probably (you didn't provide a...
The 10.3 install you mentioned doesn't surprise me. Apple started machine-specific restore discs 2-3 years ago.
The MB-to-MBP restore surprises me and generally shouldn't happen.
Your install problem has nothing to do with PPC vs. Intel. The problem you're running into is that the restore discs are machine-specific. Even if you had a PowerBook G4 restore disc, you couldn't use it to restore your iMac. As the previous poster said, you'll need to acquire a fresh installer.
For the most part, 3G is simply a mobile carrier's 3rd generation of their network. Since Verizon and Sprint use CDMA their 3G technology is EVDO. 3G for a GSM carrier is HSDPA.
Well. . .considering the main factors that would prompt a new piece of hardware are going to be either storage or to make it HSDPA or HSDPA/EDGE compatible. So let's look at those. . .
1 - Prices on 16GB and 32GB NAND flash has to be attractive enough and the supply has to be plentiful...
What version of OSX are you using on the FW drive? Firmware up to date on the Mac Pros? While it's possible that the problem involves Apple Partition Map volumes, on the surface I'm inclined to look elsewhere for the smoking gun. After all, Apple's restore DVDs are all formatted as Apple...
I was worried at first, but I've found EDGE to be actually usable here in Columbus. I've had Verizon EVDO when I lived in Chicagoland and it was definitely faster, but EDGE has been much better than I expected.
Wouldn't it have been easier to say "Yeah. . .what the guy above said."...
In the introduction, it says. . .
"Built on Apple's Apple Software Restore technology, NetRestore can be used to quickly and accurately restore a master disk image to a computer's hard disk while that disk image is hosted locally, on a network via AFP, NFS or multicast, or on the internet via...
Well. . .EDGE is more like 2.5G, but 3G is indeed used across the US - just not AT&T's 3G technology. But Verizon and Sprint pretty much have nationwide EVDO (their 3G technology) coverage.
It has nothing to do with whether Jobs wanted 3G or not. With the business partner Apple chose...
NetRestore from Bombich Software.
"Thank you, drive thru."

All Intel machines use GUID. But what you described is a total non-issue. The FW drives don't have to be formatted as GUID.
The important thing is where the image going to the Intel-based machine is...
I can't imagine this scenario is very common. I have to think there aren't too many old AT&T Wireless customers who haven't been fully assimilated into Cingular/AT&T by this point.
I was an AT&T Wireless customer for 3 or 4 years (1999-2003). Toward the end of my time with them, reaching...
Of course, this equation changes completely the minute AT&T forces you to a current plan. If I were a betting man, I'd say that'd be no more than a year from now.
You mentioned that AT&T has been after the legacy (old AT&T Wireless) customers for years, but they've always honored your plan. My question to you would be whether you think AT&T will continue to honor your plan pricing for the long term (for the next year or more). Because from what you've...
The problem is the OP has a plan from 2 mergers ago that to this point has been grandfathered along and he isn't willing to part with. AT&T Wireless was purchased by Cingular. . .then Cingular was purchased by SBC - who has rebranded themselves as AT&T. His plan is apparently from his old AT&T...
Actually, that may or may not be a problem. Apparently, Apple is saying there is an interface issue with some iPhones where it's not reporting the real state of a battery's charge. Supposedly, this will be fixed on a later software update...
Let me start by saying that EDGE speeds will vary, but at least from my experience (in Columbus, OH) the only people who are going to have any problems with EDGE speeds are people who are used to EVDO. I've used EVDO and it's nice. . .and I've found EDGE to be slower, but wholly acceptable.
The internal SuperDrive is only going to read DVDs at 8x. I don't know of any 3rd-party MacBook-compatible drives that would be any faster. I would suggest getting an external. Figure you can find a 18x DVD-R drive at NewEgg for ~$32 and an inexpensive USB2 enclosure and up your speeds pretty...
