    all sata port dead...

Update: I let the board sit for some days without battery. Did the reboot procedures as suggested... and sata controller is back. All working again. Except for the 2 week old SSD, that's toast. Sent it back, got my refund. Can a bad SSD temporarily disable sata controllers ? Well anyways...

    Would 350w PSU do it?

Video card only requires a 6 pin connector, wondering why since it's supposed to be a 70w card only, I guess the 2 fans need it.

    Would 350w PSU do it?

I know I have been out of the business for a long time, but had to upgrade after over 10 years. New build, a320 chipset mobo, ryzen 5 2600, 2x 8gb ram, gtx 1050ti, 1 ssd, 3x 2.5" 5400rpm hdd, an old swifttech water pump (the small one, forgot the number) and a couple of fans. Would a 350w...

The GPU block that wouldn't die

I have the same gpu cooler together with an apogee for my cpu. Sitting unused in a box for almost 10 years now. Together with the other parts. Was thinking about using them again, just not sure if they are still trust worthy cause of the rubber gaskets.

Two new elderly people converted to linux

thanks so far. Just read that skype as of version 4.3 dropped support for alsa. Older versions like 4.2 with alsa support dont let you login anymore. :( My netbook hardware got problems with PA, thats why i switched to pure alsa. Another reason to ban MS out of my house, really gettin...

Two new elderly people converted to linux

Good to hear that. LM is for sure a fine distro not to mention their outstanding customer support. Everything really works right out of the box. Well but the Debian world is a little bit different. Many things that work or are easily available in Ubuntu based distros can be a pain in the ... to...

    lightweight browser ?

thanks for the input so far. Vivaldi sounds interesting but since its still under development...better wait and see where it goes. Need something reliable for daily use now. Light is only half the download size of the other browsers, looks like it lost a lot of fat. Might be worth a try...

Two new elderly people converted to linux

i know skype is available for linux. Thanks for the link though. But its only available for 32bit and not for 64bit OS. I was trying to install it on 64bit Debian, needed to pull a mountain of dependencies and never really got it to work. Did another try on a 32bit Debian. This time install went...

well BOOnie he is over 70 years old now, he used windows98 on my old machine before. Got him a new laptop 3 years ago with windows7 on it. Cleaning the bloat from Windows 10

well i guess you didnt get the point. I really dont see any sense to pay for an not exactly cheap OS and then have to go thru all the hassle to get rid of the bloat. Then have to install drivers and buy again mountains of software to keep it clean and running. Not to mention that i have to...

    cant start pc with switch...

so what you mean is that maybe the switch is adding too much resistance to the switching circuit on the mobo. While just holding together the 2 wire endings still let enough voltage pass to trigger the start. Since i used 3 different PSU on that same board in the last month and still got the...

    cant start pc with switch...

second guess was that either the switch connector or the pins on the mobo was bad. Switch works fine with another mobo. So connector must be fine. Right now i got a connector plugged in with 2 wires hanging out of the back of my case. Got tired of opening the case every time i want to start up...

clicking noise out of PSU ???

sorry cant do no recording, got no mic. It sounds similar to the clicking of a relay. But since i havent found any inside of the psu... Its not really a loud clicking, you have to get really close to hear it. I already disconnected the fan to rule that out.

    cant start pc with switch...

bad switch was my first guess too. I connected that switch to another mobo and its working just fine. I got like 30 spare switches in a bag and trying most of them always gives me the same problem. Yes i used different wiring too. That mobo really "doesnt like" any switch...never seen...

    cant start pc with switch...

got some strange issue with my biostar G31 mobo. I will not start if i connect the regular switch to the mobo. But it starts perfectly fine if i shorten the 2 pins with a screwdriver. A connector with 2 loose wires works fine too with only short contact. If i connect any switch to it it will not...

clicking noise out of PSU ???

i got some clicking noise coming out of my PSU and no its not the fan. I disconnected the fan and that clicking noise continues. PSU is a Corsair HX620. Windows 9 demo video close your eyes

well its not that hard to offer a different GUI for each kind of user group upfront. Like they got their profesional, home and ultimate edition. Its possible to do the same with GUIs. So each user can decide upfront which one suits his needs. Of course its nice if you can change GUI afterwards...
