For members who like, and are still looking at buying a 9800 GX2!

I will be getting one but only if the performance is reasonably better than my 8800GTX, I don't mind spending good money on my hobby but I won't throw it away needlessly either. Now, what constitutes reasonably better, is another story and something I will have to judge once the benchmarks start...

    PCIE 1.0 vs 2.0

Also I think the point some were trying to make is that by the time pcie 2.0 is actually useful/needed most will be upgrading there motherboards anyway due to new cpu socket architecture. One reason to try and find a pcie 2.0 based motherboard now is if you plan on upgrading video cards but not...

    Gigabyte or DFI?

Anandtech's review of the Nirvana seemed quite positive, overclocked it was only a degree or two behind the ultra 120 extreme. Sadly there are boatloads of different opinions on how hot a cpu can safely run without damage. Hard to say for sure but I'd bet as long as it's completely stable it...

Trade only DDR DIMMS for DDR SODIMMS

The company I work for just pulled a bunch of DDR 400mhz, CL3, PC3200, 512mb DIMM's from off lease machines. We are looking for DDR 333mhz, CL2.5, PC2700, 512-1024mb SODIMM's for some older laptop's we use for training. This would be a trade only transaction and we are looking for 15-20...

    Gigabyte or DFI?

Thanks for the reply Flexion. I normally only run a couple HD's so that won't be an issue. Looks like we have similer ram also. Might I ask what cpu cooler you are running along with 4ghz idle and load temps with it? I am thinking of the ultra 120 extreme but apparently there are some fitment...

    Gigabyte or DFI?

I am considering building a 4ghz e8400 machine and I'm either going with the T2RS or a DS3R. I can't really say if one is better than the other, although from my research it looks like the T2RS might have a slight edge on maximum attainable fsb. Keep in mind it looks to be a minor advantage and...

    DFI P35 DK T2RS & Ultima 120 Extreme

I've been considering this board and cooler combo for an E8400 4ghz build. It seems in order for the cooler to fit it has to be installed with the fan facing either the vid card or psu. Is this going to hamper the cooling efficiency of the extreme to the point where some other cooler such as the...

    ds3r or ds3p

I'm in a similier situation needing to upgrade my current system so that I can have a second relatively fast machine. I too am looking at both of these boards and the only reason I can see going with the DS3P over the 3R would be if I needed the 4X pcie slot. Maybe this has been posted somewhere...

    Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Overclocking

Towards the heatsink is best, you get better forced airflow that way. How you actually attach the fan to the heatsink isn't as important as making sure you don't impede airflow and it doesn't fall off. And of course physical damage using oversized screws.

GA-P35-DS3R - Problem with Front USB Headers

Any chance you have a motherboard standoff post shorting? Or possibly the usb header connector is reversed on the pins? Weird stuff going on, I was about to buy a DS3R and either an E8400 or E8500 but might have to reconsider if this is a common problem with these boards.

Trasferring a vista install to a new hard drive?

I used the trial version of Aconis Migrate Easy, just have both drives in your machine, follow a very simple wizard, set the new drive as your boot drive in bios or remove old one. Couldn't be easier and it's free.

will disk imaging software restore everything?

Thanks for that in depth response! I was afraid the answer about self bootable backup dvd's was going to be a no. I'm kind of spoiled at work with ghost having that ability, I suppose I could just copy the floppy we use but It's obviously not exactly legal and I would be fired in a heartbeat...

will disk imaging software restore everything?

Got a couple questions to revive this thread with. I have Acronis 11 and was under the impression it can do two things I haven't been able to find yet. The first is the ability to create an exact mirror image of a drive onto DVD's and have those DVD's be bootable without having to load...

Digi Cam Poll: What Digital Camera do you use?

Canon Eos 40D kit. Once I get somewhat familier with it I plan on getting macro, telephoto and wide angle lenses. I would also like to get a flash capable of reasonably long range nighttime shooting as well.

    Outdoor night shooting?

Thanks Fugu, at least I now know it's possible. Any recommendations on a site that sells these? I assume they are triggered off of the camera somehow?

    Outdoor night shooting?

What is required to shoot objects up to 50 yards away at night with reasonable success? I have a feeling it would require some serious lighting beyond camera mounted flash units but figured it was worth asking anyway. What I would like to do is be able to take pictures of wildlife on the fly...

    Any GPS enabled cameras yet?

I just bought a Canon EOS 40D and while I haven't had time to try it out the documentation mentions the ability to connect to various GPS units for location data I presume. I can't say whether less expensive Canons are able to (XT, XTI, 30D etc..). I have a TomTom 910 and after I actually...

    On-board Sound vs. Sound card

Im my opinion I wouldn't worry about quality or performance hits when using onboard sound as long as it uses a higher end chipset. Their might be reasons for an addon card, but if all your going to be doing is listening to MP3's and playing games most onboard chipsets will be more than adequate...

Put fridge on top of heating vent?

I would suggest (assuming it's possible in your situation) to use aluminum tape. There are certainly more professional ways of doing this but the tape method will be quick and painless with minimal fuss should you decide to remove it later. Also using a good brand of tape and cleaning the...

    DRM media limitations?

Ok after some searching I found something called TVersity that may do what I want. I haven't tried it yet due to the fact that my WHS machine doesn't seem to like my onboard sound chip. Assuming I get that problem solved I will see if this is what I'm looking for and will post back with my results.

    DRM media limitations?

Umm...I appreciate the response but I'm not mucking around with my servers and I don't own an htpc specifically. Ghost a RAID0 Install

I just cloned my raid0 raptors over to a 500gb drive using Acronis MigrateEasy. Started the process in windows, it rebooted into a dos environment for the actual move then when finished I had two working copies of my install. Very easy and the best part is it was free. It obviously saw my raid0...

Which Gateway 24" Monitor is Better? New(FHD2400) or Old (FPD2485)

I had both of the Gateway 24" monitors and have to say the FHD2400 was my favorite of the two. The 2485 was lighter on the right as compared to the left (actually severe enough It really bothered me) whereas the 2400 has the typical TN top to bottom uneveness (still not perfect but I seem to be...

While the power/reset's may not be exactly on top they are damn close and it's only $150. It's only 20.5 inches tall though so that may not work for you. Samsung 226CW at BestBuy highly disappointing

I recently returned a FHD2400 and picked up the 226CW. I'm very glad I did, I find the 226CW has much less of the top to bottom color shifting (darker at top than at bottom) than the 2400 and considerably less backlight bleed than 2 of the 2400's I tried. I also have my brightness turned down to...

    Samsung 23" LCD 720p HDTV or Gateway 24" FHD2400 1920x1200

For what it's worth I have the FHD2400 and so far the only complaint I have is the fairly noticable vertical color/darkness variance. Web sites like hardforum for example look quite a bit darker at the top than at the bottom but I am under the impression this is normal for TN panels so I let it...

    Westy 37" on UPS

I was thinking it was probably the backlight circuit that was buzzing but oddly enough as long as its on ac I can't hear anything from it, as soon as I pull the plug and it goes to battery it gets loud enough I wouldn't want it to be "normal" thats for sure. ;) I just wish I had another UPS...
