I've said it before, and I'll say it again, like everything else, you just need learn the product.
IMHO, for a SMB environment, the price point for Sonicwall's, and the ability to centrally manage a fleet of installed devices PWN Untangle
I just finished evaluating a slew of RMM software. I selected Labtech. It does everything I need, has good scripting which is critical, and most of all is relatively cost effective. It is also integrated with ESET NOD 32 so installs, scans & cleans can be run from within Labtech. It also is...
The recurring annual price I quoted was for TotalSecure which includes all features, AV, AM, AS, IDS, Content Filtering, Phishing protection, etc.
Is it the best, no probably not. Does it provide a cost effective solution, yes.
I believe in layering everything: AV at the gateway...
I currently use sonicwall (no comments please) and sell a managed security package. My Cost for a sonicwall is 350 or so, plus about 150 each year after for total secure. Untangle is list 480 /yr plus hardware at another 400. Way different.
I can also get a centralized management center...
For those installing UnTangle at a client site:
Are you using the free, open source version, or the Standard version. Standard, at $432/yr, + the cost of the hardware seems very pricey
OK Additional testing
I can create a 100GB vhd using 512MB RAM. I can then expand the VM to 150GB, still at 512MB. VM starts successfully
Increase RAM on the VM to 1GB. VM starts
Increase RAM to 2GB, VM fails
Can some please confirm that a Dell PERC 5i/R will work with Hyper-V?
When I try to create a vhd saved to an array on this controller, I get failure messages stating:
Could not initialize memory. There is not enough space on the disk. 0x80070070)
Failed to create memory contents file...
RAM is set at 4GB
The vhd hard disk size is set at 100 GB
On the c: drive (where I can get the VM to install), there is 127GB free. On the D: drive, where I want to put the vhd files, there is close to 1TB free.
Hi All
Hope someone can help me out with this one.
Hardware:Dell PowerEdge T610, 12GB RAM,
2 controller cards
Host OS PERC 6iR with RAID 1; approx. 125GB free
PERC 5iR with RAID 5; approx. 1TB free, previously formatted, with existing data

1 other thing you need to be aware of:
None of these tools are simply plug n play. There is a heck of a lot of planning & work involved to set up the "chart of accounts" to get the system to work the way you do...
Mozy is not a business backup service: their turnaround time for disaster recovery frankly sucks. Have a client who used them (before I came on board). His server fried, and he called me in to recover. It took Mozy 5 days to get the backup to him... Mozy may be fine for home users, where...
A little thread resurrection here...
Before I purchase a cert for Exchange 2007, can someone confirm the appropraite UCC cert's alternate names:
Servername
Servername.mydomain.local
Servername.mydomain.com
autodiscover.mydomain.com
mydomain.com -> or should it be remote.mydomain.com...
Not to beat a dead horse, but another reason to keep registrar and host separate:
A client has a 1and1 registrar and host account, handling email and web. If the MX record is changed, 1and1 immediately deletes the email hosting accounts. The issue obviously, is that the MX change hasn't...
Take a look at SmallNetbuilder.com
Some very good info comparison on wireless routers. I agree with the WNDR3700 recommendation, as does SmallNetBuilder

Just to clarify a common misperception on DNS servers:
If the primary DNS server cannot resolve a name, it does NOT query the secondary DNS server. The primary server would initiate an iterative + recursive query process. Google thesse terms for the full query process
The secondary DNS...
My disty didn't have any of the SU3500 models with Win7 in stock, so got what I could...
Not a biggie, its an easy install, and have MS Action Pack & Tech Net
A bit of a rant here...
Had to uninstall Symantec Corp Edition AV 2010 for a client. Took me about 2 hrs... What a nightmare. It is/was a completely manual process to get rid of it, and then to top it off, I had to call Symantec to get their Clean Wipe utility, to get rid of the leftover...
Just bought the 1410-8414 for my daughter this Xmas. Will be throwing Win 7 (much bettter than Vista).
I too bought htis after searching web articles. Can't wait to actually open the box up & check it out
Absolutely true. However, 1) I'm not sure the 30 days is enough (it wasn't for me...) and 2) the cost of a few installs from virtualadministrator just seemed easier than the time spent on a local setup.
At some point is does make sense to bring Kaseya in-house. I'm still playing with the...

I juststarted dipping into the Managed Services arena. To get started, look here. It's a bit more cost effective when you are just trying it out.
Plus they are a great group of guys. Training/marketing etc is included with signup
PM if you need additional info.
Small beef on this point. While I agree Cisco does have excellent equipment at the Mid to Enterprise level, their performance at the small biz level is less than stellar for IPSEC cleints. Sonicwall plays mostly in this SMB market. so we need to compare apples to apples
Case in point, the...
