Is the purpose cosmetic or for thermal reasons? If thermal, flat is the way to go because it transfers more heat than gloss/semi-gloss. Granted...the differences are small but...
I like satin the best for general maintenance because it's easier to care for. All of them will look plain grey...
I've been using commercially made round wires for over 3 years in my box without any data loss/corruption. The box works perfectly. They are 133MBps and were made for Thermaltake. Put some tape over the exposed wire and try it in your set-up alone and using standard flat wires on the other...
Yes, it's best to pull the surge protector plug and any other peripherals from the wall socket as Mohonri has noted. Don't forget the cable line if you have cable broadband. I lost a computer to a lightning strike on the cable line, which went right through the modem into the nic/motherboard...
I agree with the others, the simplest/cheapest way is to run an extension cord from another room circuit to the computer. That probably would be a #14 ga, 50 foot extension cord. These are usually sold for drills/single machine use for work places. Find at Lowe's/Home Depot/Harbor Freight etc...
Melt the solder and remove it with a damp sponge. The sponge will pull/trap the excess. Damp means lightly moist, not dripping. After removing the solder let the board sit and air dry just in case you got water on the board. YMMV
I vote for the air compresser. You will find more uses for it than cleaning dust from cases. I would recommend an oiled compressor, over the oil-less you posted from Harbor Freight, because the oil-less makes a lot more noise when running. You also need a dryer for the compressor to keep...
The safest stuff I know to use is Orange Cleaner. I get mine by the gallon at Home Depot. You brush it on full strength and it lifts the paint. It takes some time to work. You can scrape it with a squeegee (like you spread Bondo with) to remove paint as it's loosened. Applying more OC to any...
Another important accessory is a filter/water separator hooked in between the tank and hose. This will protect you from spraying condensed water from inside the tank onto the electronics inside the box.
Go to an auto body supply store (where body shops buy their supplies). They sell a paste filler in a tube that you use to fill the pinholes and such. You skim it on and after it hardens you sand it smooth. It goes on over primer or bare Bondo. Tell the counter person what you are trying to do...
I use the side of my soldering iron. Move it around so it never is on the shrink for any length of time. It shrinks it right up. Much easier than the lighter method.
Enamel paint can be hardened by oven baking. I doubt that any harm will come to the oven as it has a ceramic coating on the interior. If your really worried about it, then clean the oven after you bake the case. There is a minimal amount of out-gassing from the paint while baking, but should be...
Silicone sealer would be my first choice. Goop would also work, but more expensive. I doubt Gorilla glue would work. Epoxy might work if the acrylic was roughed but I doubt that it will hold up to the flexing which may occur when the panel is removed/installed.
Acrylic might work if it is...
I have two trimline phones in my house that have the mechanical bell circuts active, both ring with xmas colors used as hook-up. We also have some electronic phones on the same circut. I agree with the other posters that it is in your phone. I suppose you could add more modern componets. Have...
I too, think that black foam is AC replacement filter material sold to replace filters in window air conditioners. Should be available at any hardware store.
I use masking tape to remove runs when still wet. Make a loop sticky side out and touch the run with the sticky side. The tape picks up the run. You will have to re-coat but it's easier than sanding them out dry. To prevent runs, use thin coats, and wait 5-10 minutes between coats. Warming the...

Here are two stores that deal in surplus/overstock electronics. I have dealt with both, mostly in store, and they are reputable.

Apex has so much stuff, if you ever get the chance to visit, it's an inventors dream. Lots of...
I have toroids in my cases around the wiring bundle from the front of the case. It's close to my hard drives and have never noticed any interference...so I doubt that magnets disrupt a shielded hard drive. If your talking high gauss, well may be, but I would have to see some research. I think...
There used to be a special tip that fit a soldering iron which melted the two lines of solder in a surface mounted dip. I can't seem to find one advertised anymore. This guy made an attachment that looks like it would work for you, or at least provide some direction. Hope you get it off without...
Here are some airbrush info links. I personally like the Iwata but the Paasche works too. Buy a quality tool and you will have it for a long time. The important part of an airbrush compressor is it's having a tank. This smooths out the pulsations caused by the air compression, so that the air...
I would go to Walley World, Jo-Ann Fabric, any craft store locally. You should be able to get Velcro for around a buck a foot or less. Use double sided tape or hot glue to attach. Sometimes they carry it with glue already attached.
This is a great mod! Congratulations on finishing such a cool mod! Craftsmanship is great, just a perfect job.
I think you could use a piano hinge, available at Home Depot as well as a ton of other places. They are cut to length, so buy it longer and cut to fit. It might also require you to...
Try these guys, especially if you have a store near you.

Google for case badge and you will find a bunch of pre-made ones. Add DIY to the string for lots of how to's for doing it yourself, including a LED case badge light. There are to many to post links.
The jewelry industry has a hot dip made of laquer to protect brass jewelry. I think you could spray the sleeving with a clear rattle can paint/laquer. There could be flaking problems if it were flexed a lot, which probably wouldn't happen in a computer case. I think Krylon makes an acrilic clear...
