    PotBS signs deal with SOE

Simple...they dumbed it down for consoles. The combat upgrade they did in April 2004? (not sure the date) was a good thing. Made the game rather more challenging, no more solo players with super buffs taking out entire nests of rancor single handed and with not much more than a scratch...

Gears of War coming to PC

All the great shooters were already on the pc. Halo is no more than a mediocre shooter at best. I've not played GoW, so I can't speak for that one, but while what I've seen of it LOOKS good, looks can be deceiving and I've seen plenty of actual gamer reports that give the game mixed reviews at...

wow is boring!! want to find a fun game

Take a look at mmorpg.com. There is a list of all mmo's there that indicate whether it is something you have to buy but play free (Guild Wars), Buy AND Pay to Play (Evercrack..I mean quest, WoW), can get free but pay to play (Puzzle Pirates), or can play totally free (Dungeon Runners)...

The game that made you jump...

Definately AVP2 Marine missions. There's one mission in particular where you are wandering carefully through a mostly destroyed complex, and your motion tracker starts beeping. Had me trying to look every direction at once until I finally figured out it was just some giant cargo hook...

Buying Hardware with Mail-in-Rebates - Beware!

Of course all mail in rebates are scams. They are tricks to get people to buy overpriced stuff with the hope and expectation that most buyers won't get it sent in within the timeframe, lose their receipt (and thus be unable to get the rebate), or will goof something up while sending the rebate...

What's Instancing and why is it hated?

Before SWG was totally trashed by redoing the whole game to make it more console compatible, they had limited instancing that I thought worked quite well for their Kashyyyk expansion Rage of the Wookies. There were a couple quest "dungeons" that had a set 5 or 6 instances, and you chose which...

Any companies that offer 0% interest on a laptop?

I don't know of any company that will offer 0% financing unless it's for a special, limited time offer - and that only for something like 6 months to a year after which the interest that you thought you were not going to get hit with gets dumped on you based on the full amount instead of the...

    Help on WIFI Hardware

POLL: Do you play with invert mouse?

Some games I do, some I don't. In general, FPS games feel more 'right' when using a mouse set to normal, just like any flight sim type game feels more 'right' set to inverted. I've found a few other games that for whatever odd reason felt more natural to play backwards from how most would play...

    C&C Generals: Zero Hour problem

I'm at work, so I can't post my system specs right now...hopefully they won't be needed. The problem: I am trying to play the General's Challenge. I beat the challenge with the Air General. When I try to play any other General now, I either get killed immediately upon starting the first...

    RuneScape

They never got rid of RSC, they just don't update it anymore...and truthfully, RS2 is a lot better. They are able to add new quests, skills, etc fairly easily. Dozens of quests, including several that are a LOT harder than the old 'ultimate' quest (Legends) as well as some new skills (Slayer...

    Thoughts on Halo PC?

Just about every FPS for the PC that has ever been released since the dawning of the computer era is better than Halo for the PC...but it was still fun. If Halo2 is released for PC, once it is on the discount racks I might consider buying it.

    Unification Wars

There have been a lot of versions of that game. I don't remember the name of it either, but you're right. It's basically an updated and more complex version of that.

Watched it 20 minutes ago and I'm still laughing.

    Unification Wars

This is a fun online (and free) multiplayer game. It's all text, but it's complex enough to keep your interest...and makes time pass fast. You are the leader of an "empire" and must work to build your empire up. You can explore for more territory, attack other players within your range to...

Going to See DOOM this Weekend?

I have yet to see a movie 'critic' that ever rated a movie that was a good, fun, and most of all ENJOYABLE movie to see as anything other than so-so to bad. I've seen far too many times though where the critics rated movies I would classify as the worst dreck of all time as 'one of the best'...

Problem with FEAR!, cant get past one spot (POSSIBLE SPOILER)

Have you checked for updated video drivers? If so and you are current, have you tried going back 1 version of the video drivers?
  20. D

    Ok, FEAR freaked me out

ss2 = System Shock 2, right? Just making sure :) I never did get a chance to play that one, and the computer I was playing ss1 on kinda died before I even got an hour into the game, and I never got around to trying to make it work on the next comp I had.

    RPG's

Speaking of rpg's...has anyone tried that rpg/rts/whatever the heck it is called Dragonshard? I've been looking at it in the store, but would like some opinions on it.

So how does one broach the PC or Console subject without the flame wars?

If you are like me, and willing to settle for reduced graphics instead of trying to run everything at the max possible, you could forego upgrading your comp for a couple years or more and still play the newest titles. My comp is about 2 years old now, and the only upgrading I did was about a...

    Civ III Manual?

If you've played Civ 1 or Civ 2, there's really not much difference. Some new units, new civilizations, the Civs have specific abilities like enhanced industry, or a free explorer to begin with. Resources can just up and vanish on you, but all resources will have at least 1 source of supply...

Does Wal-mart take back opened games?

Part time Walmart employees *DO* get benefits. They aren't as full as a full time employee's benefits, but at least they get some. Someone hired PT and someone hired FT would both receive the exact same pay per hour to start as well, and the start pay, while still low, is a good bit higher...

Does Wal-mart take back opened games?

You are very wrong in this statement. Yes, Walmart does actively kill unions (threatened to close one store, DID close another when the union came in) but they pay MORE than any Union large chain store (Meijer, Target, Kroger, etc) pays their employees, with BETTER BENEFITS. Employees don't...

Does Wal-mart take back opened games?

Technically, when you return software they are supposed to take the disks out of whatever the key comes on (cd case usually), put your defective cd in that package, and put the new cd in your old packaging. You are not supposed to walk out of the store with new packaging of any sort. I had...

Does Wal-mart take back opened games?

I used to be a cashier for Wal-Mart. First, they do not make minimum wage. They are actually a buck or two higher. Not a lot, I agree, but still higher than minimum. 2nd, the COMPANY policy is that the exchange would be made exactly like you stated...anything missing would be removed from...

Does Wal-mart take back opened games?

Wal-mart will not accept a software return for anything other than Store Credit, and that only if you have a receipt. If you return the software for the same box, but unopened, they either keep the receipt or mark it in such a way that it is obvious that it was already returned. Without...

    Fun bomb-defusing game

Fun game. The bit that took longest for me was the Mastermind type puzzle at the beginning...mostly because it didn't have a 'right number, wrong location' indicator. Finished with just under 9 minutes remaining.

Why do many new demos make you reboot before playing?

Yes, quantity mostly. Really bad memory leaks will fill up all available ram fairly quick, not so bad ones might only leave a few k worth of leftover processes that won't get cleaned up. Not being a programmer, I can't tell you exactly why the OS won't clean up some bits of leftover...
