Still using my S939 FX60 based machine with 8800GTX
Almost bit the bullet a few weeks ago and thought about upgrading to newer Intel QUAD CPU, P45 and perhaps one of the new NVIDIA or ATI video cards...but changed my mind. The games I currently play and the rez I play them at (1680x1050)...
I am trying to help a friend upgrade their PC.
Was going to recommend a P45 but I am curious what the actual difference between a P45 and P43 chipsets ?
-CPU will be Q6600
-Video card will single card...either one of the NV 200's or ATI 4870.
-4gb of DDR2 800
No real desire to do...
I am currently in the process of upgrading my main gaming PC...and have been trying to decide what to do about sound.
I know I do not want something from creative or that is a rebranded soundblaster...which means go with onboard or try out somethign like the Asus Xonar.
From what ive...
Have DFI boards gotten more "user friendly"? Last time I tried using a DFI board, it was extremely hard for me to get things setup correctly in the Bios. It was a tweakers dream but too finicky for my tastes. I really want something that works out of the box with very little bios tweaking...
Getting ready to order the following parts to upgrade my current AMD FX60 system (see sig). This will be my first Intel build. Primary use is for games...currently Age Of Conan being the game of choice.
Any last words of advice?
1 GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic...
I am currently playing Age Of Conan on my Gateway 6860FX (CPU upgraded to T9300)..video settings set to HIGH, 2xAA and Shadows turned off...Getting smooth 40+ FPS.
Each time I load up a game on the 6860FX I am amazed how nice of a gaming system it is.
Thanks for the info....nice to know which cards are technically rebranded X-Fi's. I do not want that.
I could care less about EAX.
I would be fine with onboard sound but I notice that I take about a 4-5fps hit on average (in AoC) when using my current onboard sound -vs- the X-Fi...
I am in the process of upgrading my CPU, MB and Memory....and while I am at it I am curious what might be a good choice for gaming sound card that is NOT from creative?.
I currently have a X-Fi that has given me SO much trouble...I yanked it out and have been using onboard sound for the past...
I have a Gateway 6860FX. Have been extremely happy with it.
So far it has been able to handle the games I play...WoW, Supreme Commander and C&C 3.
I recently got Age of Conan and it can run it but frame rates are not what I prefer.
I am going to upgrade the CPU to a T9300...From what I...
Hmm...I guess I need more education because I definately misunderstanding things.
None of those are cheaper than:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231145
My reasoning for picking that particular memory was to give me some working room for the future..and the price for that kit ($89) was not that much(about $10) more than the other 800mhz sets...at least from NewEgg.
After doing some research I think I have picked the MB, CPU and Memory to upgrade my existing PC (listed in my sig).
MB: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R
CPU: E8400
Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)
??
My primary use is gaming....Age Of Conan being the...
Wow, glad I read this thread... I have been trying to decide on a new MB...have always liked Asus =P That layout is really bad.
I am probably going with a Gigabyte MB...
For my case, its the best layout I can find...but glad I do not have any IDE devices anymore...cause the position...
I think I am going with a Gigabyte board and Dual Core E8400..

My understanding is that the Abit boards require BIOS flash to use the 45nm processors?
Since I do not have a current Intel processor to use...I cannot flash the bios.
Yea I guess I should have mentioned that...I want P35 or X38, but DO not want Nvidia chipset based boards.
And I need one that supports newer processors out of the box...
Do those support CPU's I listed out of the box? I need that, since I will have no way to flash the bios.
I do not plan to OC...I have never been very good with OCing.
My main objective is for upcoming games like Age of Conan...which barely runs on min with my current setup.
Greetings,
I am in the process of upgrading my AMD FX60 (939) system. Going to replace CPU, MB and RAM.
I am going to go Intel this time...
I have decided the CPU will be 8400 dual core or 6600 quad core...not exactly sure which one yet..
MB is where I simply have no idea.
I...
To even run AoC beta where its somewhat playable on my current system...I have to set affinity to a single core... From reading the AoC forums seems to be common to have to only use single core with AMD cpus.
Ironically my laptop which just has a T5550 (1.83) cpu and 8800GTS can run the AoC...
Yeah, the E8400 definitely looks like a better choice for me...essentially same performance yet cheaper. I seriously doubt I need 4 cores...I do not think I have yet to make use of 2 cores fully =P
Still trying to pick a MB. Quite abit of confusion on which chipset to go with..Intel or...
I asked a similar question yesterday...about advice on what current Intel processor would be an upgrade to my aging 939 AMD FX60. I said I do not nor want to OC.
Course I got at least 2 responses telling me to OC =P
Anyhow, I am pretty good at putting computers together...But when it...
Yes .74 seem to be the best for me.
As for installation.
I DID NOT download the modified inf file. I only downloaded the driver from laptopvideo2go.com
Unzipped it into a folder
Within the folder there is a subfolder called original(s)
Copyied the nvdisp.ini file from the...
Thanks...just the info I was looking for.
Am mostly wanting upgrade to be ready for upcoming games like Age of Conan...I have played the Beta and can tell my current system will not be up to the task of running the game like I would want. That and I do not like feeling outdated =P
I am looking to upgrade my gaming rig which is starting to show its age.
Currently I have a AMD FX60 CPU, Asus 8N SLI Premium, 8800GTX video card, Silencer 750 Quad PSU, WD Raptor 150gb HD and Raptor 74gb HD and 2gb DDR
My display is 22" 1680x1050.
I have had AMD my last 3 computers but...
I recently bought a 6860FX
Put 174.74 drivers I downloaded from laptopvideo2go.com
The key is to copy the correct .inf file out of original(s).inf into the main directory.
So far so good.
I did it for both by Vista 64 Boot and Windows XP Boot.
I did some further looking and found this site:
http://neonpulse.net/2008/03/06/windows-xp-on-the-gateway-p-6831fx/
which sounds pretty much like what I want to do. Only issue appears to be related with the Bluetooth....but I don't need BlueTooth functionality.
I will just use a 2nd...
I am getting ready to get myself a Gateway P-6831FX laptop. WIll be doing some traveling soon and want to be able to play some games.
The one thing that I do not like is that it comes with Vista and that Gateway only supports it with Vista. I despise Vista...and just about all the games I...
I finally got my 690 and set everything up this past weekend...My digicam got stolen out of my Jeep so can't do any pics.
I had enough fans in my collection to fill every slot in the 690...noise is not concern for me so I said what they hell. Only slot I did not put a fan in is the bottom...
I am getting ready to move my system into a new case...(Cooler Master 690). Currently I am using stock cooler that came with my FX60 (939), but the fan on it is sqeaking like crazy so while I am rebuilding the computer with the new case I figure I should get a better heatsink/fan.
What would...
I am still waiting on my 690 to arrive sometime this week. I am trying to plan ahead for fan placement. I should have enough fans lying around the house to be able to fit all 7 slots if need be.
I doubt I will need all 7 but when you say only use the 3 on top...are you talking about the 2...
I have been looking for a new case...after reading this thread I ordered a 690 from Zipzoomfly...$19.99 after rebates is a no brainer for me.
Anyhow, I have never really been very good and making things look nice and clean but this time using some of the pictures ive seen in this thread I...
