I can confirm that. The X2's will do fine also with 4 1gb sticks, but all AMD CPU's require 2t to boot up, much less run.
1t is easy money with all the newer cores.
I decided to test this overclocking with 4sticks out with my X2 3800+ E6, week 29 on a DFI NF4 Ultra-D board with the 704-bt BIOS loaded. I hit 275 mhz 1:1 at 2t with 4 x OCZ TCCD sticks at 2.5-4-3-7. This is SuperPi 32m stable.
275mhz at 2t with 4 sticks at 2.5-4-3-7 is not bad. Could be the...
I don't think you can go wrong with 939 and DDR1. One could argue that the M2 may be around longer, but it will be a while before all the bugs are worked out of any AMD DDR2 platform. You have nice fast X2 CPU's available now. My X2 3800+ does 2750 on air and DDR1 memory is cheap and fast.
This memory is bit more, but will run tighter timings and perform better for you:http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=140226&Category_Code=Unbuffered_OCZ
I have the OCZ PC4000 2gb kit listed there, and it will run 265mhz on my DFI NF4...
