Question about upgrading Windows and the boot drive but keeping installed apps

I hadn't thought about editing the registry paths, but that's definitely not something I want to do so I'll probably just clone and upgrade the drive. Yeah, this is what I figured I was going to have to do. I wanted to do a clean installation, but after thinking about it I just kinda realized...

Question about upgrading Windows and the boot drive but keeping installed apps

Just as the title said, I'm wondering if there is a way for me to upgrade my hard drive, also upgrade Windows, and yet keep all the applications that I have installed onto a seperate drive in tact and in working condition. A while back when I got my first SSD I installed Win 7 onto a 64gb...

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

Yeah, I wish I'd read up on it a bit more before I decided to implement that setup. I think I have a good shot at retrieving the data. Once that is done I'm going to switch over to either StableBit Drive Pool or Drive Bender. I've heard good things about those.

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

That may indeed be the case, but I ran into another user on another site that had the same issue as I'm having and he recovered his data using Rstudio. Rstudio is able to see the storage pool and individual drives. Its just going to take a while to scan the pool.

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

I'm in the process of recovering the data at the moment so I didn't get to check some of the info like I planned. I have a mix of drives. This was just a home server setup I was using simply because I had gotten a free copy of Server 2012. So I didn't go buy any server grade hardware or...

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

Oh trust me, I was aware that it was a possibilty. I'm not blindsided here. But this wasn't a simple failure. This hasn't been an issue where some drives went bad. All my research has shown this to be a bug and I'm not the first person that has had it. So while I do take some of the heat here...

This comment gives me hope because I was pondering my options and that was my next course of action. It makes me feel like I'm thinking...."in the right direction" if thats possible. Haha.

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

So after a bit more tinkering, I believe the problem definitely lies with the Virtual Disk. Earlier when I was searching for a solution to this issue, I saw where a person had a similar issue and they detached then reattached the virtual disk and that solved their issue for the most part. I...

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

Ok, so here is what I'm thinking...or my goal I should say. I want to preserve the data on my disks, and I'm thinking I may have to get rid of either a storage disk or a volume and start over from scratch. But I don't know which one to delete. If I delete the virtual disk will that erase the...

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

Well, my smart monitor tool shows that each of the drives is in proper working order. So, right now I have 8 tbs worth of disks half full. Since it seems they are working properly and maybe its the storage pool that is the issue, is there some kind of way I could maybe delete the storage pool...

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

Yeah but I dont think that is THIS issue. I'm really having a hard time understanding how everything could just disappear. Even if one or two of the drives failed, I was under the impression that at least the rest of my data would be fine. But it seems maybe a drive failed and now the entire...

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

I created a storage space. Since my original post I've gone back and looked at the event logs. I had a number of warnings for Disk 0 and Disk 6. The problem is, I only have Disks 0-5. Disk 0 is a terabyte drive that is partitioned. One part of it as used as the boot drive while the rest is used...

    Server 2012 Storage Issue

Not too long ago I got a copy of Server 2012 from one of the student programs at my university. I decided to use it as an opportunity to learn a bit more about Server as well as setup an HTPC. That probably wounldn't be the OS I would normally go with, but since I had it I gave it a shot...

Windows XP Still The Dominant OS

My company just finished the move over to Win 7. The biggest part was getting all of our applications packaged prior to deployment. Its an oil company and have a number of employees and use so many different pieces of software that it was a daunting task but its done now and its own to other...

Dual Monitors Faulty After I Finish Playing Games

Well I be damned. That fixed it. It's funny, because I am an IT professional and I didn't know I could use that win-key+p functionality outside of a laptop. So I learned a little something today. Thanks.

Dual Monitors Faulty After I Finish Playing Games

I play all my games in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I use dual monitors in my day to day use. I've noticed that after I play a video game, any game, if it isn't set to whatever resolution I have my monitors set to under normal windows settings, the second screen will cause all windows and applications...

Need Clarification Prior To My WHS Installation

Good heavens. There's tons of info in that subforum. I did a search on this subforum and have just been reading various threads trying to suck in as much info as possible. Didn't know that faq was in another forum. Good looking out.

Need Clarification Prior To My WHS Installation

I currently have a custom box with FreeNas on it that I'm about to change over to WHS. I don't have a problem with FreeNas but this is all just experimentation for me so now I want to play around with WHS. My plan was to take a hdd and just install WHS to it and make that the boot disk. This...

I'm just looking for a little guidance so that I can pull this FreeNas box off without a hitch. best way to test if motherboard is working

LOL. Yeah, that was the first time I ever had a fried CPU. But at least I know what it looks like now so if it ever happens again, I'll probably diagnose it a bit quicker. It wasn't fried under normal circumstances. This was the PC of a relative. I built this for them about 2 years ago. Well...

best way to test if motherboard is working

Yeah, I took the cpu out of one mobo and put it into another one at which point the second mobo did the same thing the first mobo did which was nothing. No startup/post routines, no indication of any bios functionality. Nothing. Just a black screen on the monitor. I've put the PSU on a tester...

best way to test if motherboard is working

I am having this exact same issue. I was looking around for a place to post my question and ran across this. What are the odds..... I need software to help with Scheduling.

Yeah, this is something we already have. We already have exchange setup and everyone has their own calendar. The problem is, the people in this scenario don't have calendars because they don't work for us. They are people we bring in from the outside to handle certain jobs, but we use them...

I need software to help with Scheduling.

It still seems that its requiring the user to do something and thats not what I'm looking for. I know there has to be software out there somewhere that will allow a person to essentially be the schedule maker and create a calendar for a set period of time, in this case the whole year, and it...

I need software to help with Scheduling.

We do use Exchange. The only problem with that suggestion, that I can see anyway, is that that seems to be for if the hamburger cook was being asked to attend and the scheduling fell on the individual. I'm looking for software where one person who is assigned to make the schedule for the year...

I need software to help with Scheduling.

Let me get a little more detailed here. I need some software that will help schedule events for the year, and also gives feedback at the same time. For instance. Lets say I have 3 locations. I need to schedule events at these 3 locations for the entire year. Whenever I place something on the...

Just one. So I may check out this solution. Not sure, my control here is limited at the moment. I haven't been here too long. If I could I'm not exactly sure how to. *edit* Nevermind. I figured that part out. Now that I think of it, OpenDNS was automatically picking up my public address. The...

Blocking Content On A Specific Computer

I ran into an issue today where a public computer in our building fell victim to sort of a practical joke. They changed the background and added adult material to it. Nothing major. Adding Users to the Login Screen While on a Domain

I'll keep that in mind. But if you knew my users you'd know that that isn't possible. LOL. These are people who claim they don't know how to unplug telephones. I wouldn't dare begin to try and instruct them to use the ".\example" on anything.

Adding Users to the Login Screen While on a Domain

These are all Windows 7 machines. From my research on the ole Googles....I don't think its possible to do it. Its only two computers so its not that big of a deal. I just set the group policy so that the login always defaults to the local computer. That way all they have to do is type in the...
