I have a Gigabyte Z68 m-atx board and my idle power is 50W with a 80 plus PSU without a discrete card. In comparison I know a H61 motherboard from MSI + 2500 sips 25W with the same PSU ... MSI has power saving stuff in the the bios.
Is there a way to reduce the idle power. I guess the H61...
Want to pair one of the following with a 2600k - GB Z68MA-D2H vs MSI Z68MA-ED55
Requirements:
* will use for simulations that are not graphics intensive
* will use integrated graphics
* might want to overclock occasionally to speed things up
Which of the above boards is a better buy...
What is Amazon's policy. I recently bought a Dh67BL and I have yet to open it up ... wondering what their policy is. Are they going to exchange or refund when the new revisions are out.
I am looking at a Intel DH67BL m-atx mobo for my i5-2600k. Do these boards last as long as gigabyte for example. I am not going to overclock etc but will run the system 24/7. I typically buy gigabyte but I see that the Intel boards have a lower idle power consumption.
Am a little concerned...
I wonder what is a good multiplier to use with a stock cooler and a i5-2500k .... on a UD3 mobo and a decent psu. Say I dont want to use a fancy cooler and I stick to the stock one from Intel. Can I push the chip at 4Ghz over long periods?
I only see an Asus matx P67 mobo, the P8P67-M .... no reviews yet. How would something like this compare with a regular P67 ATX board? I wouldnt mind a smaller board - easy to work with in a small case etc.
I am trying to build a low idle power + stable server with the sandy bridge platform. I am looking at the Intel boards because in these reviews I see that whenever these Intel boards are used, the idle power is <30W and in the other reviews idle power is 70-80W. Even if you use a GT470, the idle...
I am going to upgrade to SNB mainly due to the hope of low power. I am no gamer. I need a 24/7 low idle power box that will act my server and will do photoediting and computational stuff occasionally.
Seems SNB chips have 3W idle power but all reviews show an idle power of 70-80W. There was...
I had assembled a decent system 1.5 yrs ago: i7 920, 12GB gskill low voltage ddr3, ssd, antec p183 + antec psu, zalman fan etc for photoediting and some other computation stuff. Have been very happy with the performance (Ubuntu boots in seconds from a SSD)
Issues:
* system is not silent...
My HP2475 hasnt had any issues till now when I plugged in a displayport connection from my macmini. Now it wont let me use the quick select. To change inputs, I disconnect the displayport and then let it scan .... painful :(
Anything I could do? I dont want the pain of replacing this monitor...
I want to get a mac which will be my primary desktop for development and I will also run a web server. Should consume less energy. Already have a i7 920 system for heavy duty.
Should I get the mini or a cheap macbook (old model). I need one with a nvidia 9400.
Suggestions?
I have a MSI x58 pro and it works fine except for the higher IOH temperatures so I need good airflow with the cooler installed. I tried a big cooler like the thermaltake ISG 300 and it is blocking the airflow in my Antec P182 case. Any recommendations for a decent cooler. My goal is to minimize...
Hi
I am lazy and dont want to take off my mobo and put a mounting clip to install a cooler. I am not a regular overclocker. Might midly overclock once in a while.
Whats a reasonably priced cooler with push pins?

I was never into overclocking. Recently I upgraded to a i7 920 just to access more memory (4GB sticks are expensive). I got corsair-1600 888-24 RAM since it was a little more than the standard stuff. Was trying to upgrade for cheap so I bought a $140 X58 pro from MSI (I know its all about...
Hi
I have boiled down the choices for the X58 board to these
* asrock extreme
* p6t se
* rampage ii gene
* gigabyte ud4
Requirements
* will use it for general compute so I need 6 memory slots for adding more ram
* dont care about sli or x-fire
* need stability
* might do a mild...
I know this is a cliched question out here but my requirements are very simple
* 6 memory slots
* at least 1 esata
* overclocking is a lower priority
* stability is key, hence solid state caps
* prefer power efficient/cool boards
* would like to spend as little as possible :)
What do I...
Am convinced I need to upgrade my E6420 + P965 + 8GB combo to a i7 + 12GB ... questions:
* I dont game/overclock (hence dont need more than 1 PCIe). Which mobo will be the most stable and give me the best value/price?
* mATX or ATX?
* Should I wait for the new i7s to come out? I guess they...
Bought a Gigabyte GA-P965-DS3 board in 2007. Here are the issues:
* Board makes a high frequency chirping sound (like crickets do)
* with E6420, 8GB RAM, 8600gt and a 64 bit OS, I get random freezes (both Vista ultimate and Ubuntu 9.04)
Questions:
* Is the freeze related to a faulty mobo...
I have an old Dell 2005FPW and bought a HP2475 for the higher resolution. I somehow feel (other than color gamut increase), the old SIPS panel looks better esp at angles compared to the new monitors.
Do others see such trends? Are older IPS panels better than the H-IPS?
Also I had posted...
Does anyone see the brightness and contrast of the monitor decrease as they look at the screen from the top at an angle. For example, if one gets up from the chair while looking at the monitor, do they see a change in brightness? I would really appreciate if someone can confirm this.
I am...
Hi!
Am planning to buy a 32-37" 1080p LCD TV. I have been scared by people complaining about damages during shipment and a high pitched shrill in many of these TVs. I see a huge price variation even with the highly rated stores.
e.g. Panasonic 32LZ800 ranges from 870 at buydig to 1000 at...
