And has become apparent that PC gamers are irrelevant to AMD and NVidia.By large they are irrelevant for PC gaming, here to visualise current sales for you:

As someone who has had an ARC B580 since near launch and watched it get better and better, it is by default the best value GPU currently available. It's only about 1/3 as powerful as an RTX 4090, but at 1/10 the price. If things continue, it's looking like Intel could win the budget tier by default.
You've got (for now, at Micro Center):
B580 - Okay at its price
3060 12GB - More expensive and worse than the B580
9060XT 16GB - Okay at its price relative to the insanity
9070GRE - Much better than the 9060 unless you need the memory
I almost bought a 5080, but instead bought an RX 9070 XT just in case my RTX 4090 decides to bite it.Just picked up a backup 5080 for my 5090 at $1,899 before they went out of stock. Everything's over $2K now and only going up.
To bad it seems Intel is abandoning the consumer GPU market. As someone who has had an ARC B580 since near launch and watched it get better and better, it is by default the best value GPU currently available. It's only about 1/3 as powerful as an RTX 4090, but at 1/10 the price.
With any luck, if/when this RAM mess dies down, they will return to making consumer GPUs.To bad it seems Intel is abandoning the consumer GPU market.

It's so weird that we are now buying backup GPUs because of how bleak things look; it feels like PC gaming as we know it is dying due to this AI bs.
I'm quickly approaching the same age. I now get more pleasure just sitting in my nice Dolby Theater style motorized loveseat in front of my 77" LG C6H and playing games on my Switch 2 or PS5. It's just more enjoyable.Ya I'm pretty demanding of my 5090, going on two years and it could be the fastest gaming GPU on the market for another 4+ years. Don't really know how long these things will last pushing 600 watts. I do know I've aged out of gaming enough that I won't be spending $10K on replacing my 5090 if it dies. That's for sure. And at this rate, you aren't going to lose money on buying a $1,900 5080. Especially after SpaceX just bought $40 Billion worth of GPUs. Crazy times!
They would of missed their chance at that point. With any luck, if/when this RAM mess dies down, they will return to making consumer GPUs.
They're still making iGPUs which are on par or even better than AMD's current iGPU stack, so they are still innovating. It's not impossible for them to create dGPUs again. They would of missed their chance at that point.
Good idea. I just added one to my working fine 5090 on water and it instantly went to Alarm that pin 4 was imbalance it was pulling 9-10 amps while others where 4-5. Replugged everything a few times never went away so I swapped my spare cable in and it perfectly balanced at 7.5-8 a pin.I'm so glad I still got my 4090 lying around as my backup, now I just ordered a Wireview Pro 2 for each of my GPUs.
It looks like NVIDIA is pumping all the 5090 silicon into these cards. Even $18K will be cheap,This card was as low as $8000 just six months ago https://shorturl.at/IMhbC. I remember talking to my spouse and toying with the idea of actually getting one. Yeah, nope...

So they scrap the 5090 and "upgrade" the 5080 to 24 GB and nothing else. Couldn't be more obvious could they.
Anyway congrats 5090 owners, soon you'll be able able to sell your GPU and buy a house.
Sold my 5090 for a nice profit and now have a 5080 and a 9070XT in two separate PC's with money left over. I'm set for a long while. Really don't miss that 5090 at all tbh.I almost bought a 5080, but instead bought an RX 9070 XT just in case my RTX 4090 decides to bite it.

About $1,100 over the $3,500 I paid..how much did you get out of it
Same with my 4090. I was thinking about selling it at one point and picking up an RTX 5080... not anymore. This thing is gold. You'll have to pry my 5090 from my cold dead hands. There's nothing on the market or going to be on the market (for a reasonable price) in the foreseeable future that will outperform it.
My 4090 PC (which I turned into a local Ai setup) is my backup for my 5090. I need to treat both cards better probably, but that is not very [H] of me...I almost bought a 5080, but instead bought an RX 9070 XT just in case my RTX 4090 decides to bite it.

That’s true but I’m at that age where having the most powerful GPU is behind me and being able to put some extra money aside for retirement is more important. You'll have to pry my 5090 from my cold dead hands. There's nothing on the market or going to be on the market (for a reasonable price) in the foreseeable future that will outperform it.

Whoda thought owning/selling video cards would result in capital gains?About $1,100 over the $3,500 I paid..![]()
"NVIDIA Reportedly Moves Up RTX 5080 24 GB Launch
by DrUsmanSaleem Today, 11:28 Discuss (12 Comments)
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB might arrive sooner than expected. A new post from Board Channels' ChannelGate account claims NVIDIA is speeding up the launch, with availability now expected around January 2027 and December 2026 as the earliest option. Earlier this month, various sources relayed that the card was reportedly planned for Q1 2027. The same post says NVIDIA will stop supplying the RTX 5080 16 GB and the RTX 5090 D V2 to China, leaving the 24 GB RTX 5080 as the only flagship model in that market. The report only covers China, so there's no word yet on whether the 16 GB card is going away globally. If the January window pans out, a CES 2027 reveal seems likely, though NVIDIA hasn't confirmed anything.
Apparently, NVIDIA has already cleared out its RTX 5080 16 GB GPU inventory, and the remaining stock should last around two months. That roughly matches a leaker's claim that NVIDIA has January discontinuation dates set for the 16 GB card. The post is machine-translated, so some wording may be off. Specs are still unknown, though 24 GB on the same 256-bit bus would most likely mean 3 GB GDDR7 modules instead of 2 GB ones. Board Channels previously suggested the card could cost around 19,999 yuan (nearly $3,000) in China, while the 16 GB model already sells for close to $2,000 at U.S. retailers, double its $999 MSRP. With the memory shortage expected to get worse in 2027, it's reasonable to expect the 24 GB card to be both expensive and hard to find."
I’ve had four of them since release and have come out ahead on each one so yeah good investment for sure.Whoda thought owning/selling video cards would result in capital gains?
Self punishment is a weird thing to do and will have zero impact on NVIDIA.Been hearing rumblings of the a.i. bubble popping in the finance industry, hopefully it does and everyone can get used gpu's and 5090'e dirt cheap and ngreedia goes a while with less sales because of a good used market. Bet they'll start hyping the next gen cards real fast then. Alas, it's too late for me to buy a new ngreedia card again; I will boycott out of principle for betraying the people that built them.
They won't be a bubble everyone in power/in tech wants to control everything we do and after watching Sam you know someone gave him those talking points about we shouldn't be allowed to own a PC so don't hold your breath for a new genBeen hearing rumblings of the a.i. bubble popping in the finance industry, hopefully it does and everyone can get used gpu's and 5090'e dirt cheap and ngreedia goes a while with less sales because of a good used market.
