My best friend has a daughter in high school, that is into gaming and vr. He wanted me to be on the lookout for a graphics card for her. I don't want to get into specifics on them, because it has been rough past few years, and not really my business to share... But... if anyone felt inclined to have a really good deal for $250, let me know.

She is currently on a rx580 on a ryzen 5 or 7, between 3xxx to 5xxx gen. I am not sure on that.

Anyways, the requirements...
His budget is $100. edit. I'll add 50 to his budget to help with this. $150 is now the budget. Thanks to kyang357, budget is now $250!
Performance should be 3070 level or better. Can be either either AMD or Nvidia.
Shipped to 39180.
I'll cover shipping cost.
Offers must have heat and 2FA.
Paypal. I don't have any of that cash app stuff.

What games does your friend's daughter play? The 1080ti (and all Pascal and older cards) lost nVidia driver support in late 2025. Will this be an issue?

"Performance should be 1080ti level or better." - the 1080ti was the literal GOAT GPU and nVidia will likely never release such a performance-to-value ratio consumer GPU ever again. Would "better than a RX580" be a more reasonable goal to set?

At this point the GOAT has been deprecated by the sheep. 3060 can beat a 1080Ti no problem. Faster, more vram, has ray tracing and DLSS support. But it's still supported and NV recently restarted production of 3060s so I'm guessing that getting one for $100 is a no-go. Upgrading vid cards is a total train wreck right now. I don't even know what to suggest. The only spare vid card I have at the moment is a 1660Ti, and that's just a minor upgrade from an RX 580 at best. Also less vram, so it may well be worse.

Thelazyone is right to ask what does she play? Start there and figure out what's needed. A 1080Ti might be a good choice or a terrible one. It depends on the games. If she wants to play new stuff... minimum is 8GB vram + ray tracing support. Yeah I know people love to rip on 8GB, and 8GB does limit settings in a lot of recent games. The other side is that there are a ton of 8GB cards out there and they're still cranking them out. Game devs will support 8GB for years to come, but 8GB won't be able to do max settings. Don't disregard RT in upcoming titles. We're going to see a lot more games that require minimal ray tracing like Doom the Dark Ages. People rage at RT because most games treat it as a high-end add-on. DTDA only requires it for global illumination. Global Illumination is one of the computationally cheaper uses of RT and ID says it saved 50-100GB in download size and millions in development costs. RX 6000 cards can run it. So can a 2060 Super. We're going to see more of that as non-RT cards age out of support.

That is a very good point on support. I added 50 to the budget. Think newer might be better. She's in her senior year and will probably start college after. From what it sounds like, she's been playing on some lower ended graphical vr games with her friends from school. I'm not sure what's all out there, so I couldn't say. He's mentioned Alyx, so I would think that be a good target.

Unfortunately, all I have is a waterblocked RTX 3070 Ti, and a RTX 3070 TIM, and RTX 3080m. The RTX 3070 Tim and RTX 3080m are Chinese cards where they put mobile a RTX 3070 Ti and mobile RTX 3080 in a discrete graphics card PCB. They need modified NVIDIA drivers, like Frankendriver, in order to work. I have threads here and here in case you might be interested. The fans on both of them have been replaced and jerry rigged so that it's quiet, but still cool. Fortunately, and unfortunately, the power is limited, but it's super efficient at around ~115W's max even when overclocked. They perform on par with a good overclocked RTX 3070.

I’ve got a 2080S I can sell, I’ll message you when I’m back in town Wed to confirm specifics
