Disgusting. Pirates and cheaters always ruin everything... Hopefully they'll be stymied for years to come.

IT HAS BEGUN
Doesn't mean anything significant yet, of course, but crucial first steps. Gotta start somewhere. Mad props to the talented individuals in the community!

Unlikely. Remember, the harder companies try to prevent piracy, then the easier they make it to pirate. I call it Piracy's Law.

This isn't significant just yet. The Jailbreak requires a game called SmileBASIC 4 which Nintendo pulled from their website. This method of modding isn't new as I remember an Xbox Original game that I used to install a softmod onto it. There was a game called Star Wars Racer Revenge that people used to jailbreak their PS5. What's important as this opens the door for others to learn the ins and outs of the Switch 2 to get a more proper jailbreak. I'm not a fan of softmods since you're fighting against a multi-billion dollar company to see how many exploits you can find in their software with each update they release. The PS5 is getting it's ass handed to it with how many exploits people are finding but it's annoying when an update can prevent the jailbreak. Mod chips are the way to go but maybe one can be developed through this jailbreak? RP2040-Zero is what people use for their Switch 1's and it's cheap as hell.

Linux 7.4 Introduces New Driver For The Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers - Thanks To Valve

Written by Michael Larabel in Hardware on 23 October 2026 at 06:09 AM EDT. 6 Comments

The HID subsystem updates have been merged for the Linux 7.4 kernel that included a few new drivers.

Arguably most notable with the Linux 7.4 HID pull is the introduction of a new driver for the Nintendo Switch 2 controllers. Vicki Pfau has been leading the work on this preliminary support for Nintendo Switch 2 controllers and after sixteen rounds of revisions, it's been merged for Linux 7.4.

That's awesome! Since 2022 (when I switched to maining Linux) I haven't had any issues using a myriad of controllers in Linux, including Nintendo controllers like the Switch 1 Pro Controllers and various NSO controllers (such as the SNES and N64 ones), and it's nice to see the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and Switch 2 controllers in general, are already getting support, thanks to Valve. Man, Valve has just done soooooooooooooo muuuuuuuuuuuuch for the Linux ecosystem at large, and I am so grateful to them!

Yeah, the jailbreak idea totally has nothing to do with piracy or cheating online. Right?
At the moment, probably not. There isn't any Switch 2 games that people are desperate to play. When Nintendo does release a game people must play, then yes it'll be used for piracy. Cheating on your Switch 2 with how ban happy Nintendo is wouldn't last very long. With all the decomps going on, I would be more interested in running games that were never ported to the Switch 2. Not that I would ever buy a Switch 2 with it's current pricing. I say this as the Steam Deck is nearly $800, which is somehow more insane. CXMT needs to start pumping out more DRAM.

Oh absolutely with the piracy bit, but hey that's not a me problem of people wanting to get games for free, and I don't play online games so cheating doesn't affect me either ... so the subset of "everything" isnt ruined for me is all I'm saying.

I will say if anything Nintendos business practices is what ruined things for me, and yeah that has nothing to do with jailbreaking

Pirates gonna piracy, but modding game consoles goes well beyond piracy. I've put so many decomp games on my consoles it's not even funny. Just look at the Sega 32X which is an ill fated game console, but the community is porting so many games to it. Tomb Raider is ported to it. Quake is running on the 32X. This is the reason to mod a console. GTA5 was gonna be ported to the Switch 1. My Switch runs Brutal Doom and DevilutionX. It's your hardware and you can do what you want with it.

And yes, there are decomps of Switch games now.
