Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag

No, it is just this game. Nothing else has these issues. I am going with lazy/dumb as fuck programmers. Seeing as how the game is fucking shit and broken. Gameplay wise to, I would think their programmers are just as idiotic.

Stealth is fucked, and the mechanics are fucking retarded. Lay in a stack of hay and want to assassinate someone? Press the assassinate button and your character jumps out like the fucking Kool Aide guy, in the opposite direction. Now the whole fucking town of 100 enemies is chasing you around. Real fucking slick. Why implement it in the first place? You can walk around button mashing with a sword and get the same result. On the other hand, you can blow someone's brains out, right in front of his buddy. And they won't detect you. Fucking absurd.

And crouch? A stealthy movement option? That is for fucking n00bs! Don't need that shit in a stealth game! Lets just stand up, like a jackass, to sneak past guards. And lets bind 40 functions to 3 keys. Because keyboards and controllers don't have more buttons. And our player base is too retarded to do anything but button mash. No wonder the game is referred to as "Ass Creed"; it smells like ass.

These French-Canadian assholes can't make a game if it would save their families from being murdered (though if they could, they might be too lazy to do so regardless). Hope they're jobless soon. Especially their fucking worthless programmers.

You've never played an Assassin's Creed game before?

Ha ha +1 for epicness! My buddy and I on ventrilo are sharing the image of a Kool Aid Man assassin with the gauntlets on running through city walls while being chased by 100 enemies and hollering "Oh Yea!"

So now there is new Liberation DLC. And there is DLC to unlock weapons for the DLC. So now you can buy DLC for your DLC? UbiSoft is a pioneer!

I, too, have to admit, the controls in these games are really bad. Having just the Shift key for run/climb/basically everything is silly. They could eliminate a lot of issues if they just had a separate "run but don't grab every fucking thing you see" key. It doesn't help that the games make you chase people through narrow areas a good portion of the time.

they keep making slight changes to the controls from game to game which makes it a bit more difficult to get accustomed to...and in AC4 they made the horrible design decision to not be able to custom keyboard re-map the right Shift and Ctrl keys...like the right side of the keyboard is off limits

This game has to be played with a controller. I think the KB/M controls are atrocious but the second I hooked up my XBox controller, the game was immensely more enjoyable

Really bad is an understatement. 80% of the time I die is because one of the following:

- Character does something I do not intend. Want to want up a wall, instead, he grabs onto a weapon, stalling, and then getting killed. Even though I am looking at the wall and the weapon is behind me, and the wall is physically closer the game decides to prioritize picking up a weapon first. The annoying part is that it is entirely random.

- Want to jump in a direction. Look towards it and jump, only for the character to jump off in the entire wrong direction.

- Control lag. Sometimes it can be up to a whole second, which is enough to get detected and fail a mission or get killed.

- Player getting stuck on an object. Run down a street, and often times your character juts out in an entirely different direction, grabs onto something, and then climbs up. Even if you had released to controls.

How the developers of Tomb Raider can make a similar control scheme with complete control and no input stalling and not the developers of this game is amazing. I am going to assume this was intentional to "make the game difficult".

However, I did manage to play through the game. And all I see is a lot of wasted potential. A decent, although predictable story that was enjoyable. Some interesting things to see and do and a rather large map. I can best describe this game as Far Cry 3 set in the 1700s with ships and swords and a lack of polish. But the performance and terrible controls can not be ignored.

I have now started the DLC Freedom Cry, but I think I will give up on it after a game breaking bug. 2+ hours into the DLC, you have to steal a ship. Which I do. The game then takes you to sea to find a slave ship. As I do not see it listed anywhere on the map I decide to go back to the starting place to buy upgrades for my weapons. I do this and loot some more treasure chests. I now want to continue on with my mission of finding the slave ship, but I can not find my ship... and I can not seem to exit the city and get back to sea either. As that is a story mission and I have no other places to fast travel to, it looks like I am stuck forever. I redid the mission where I must steal the ship, only for it to reload me back at the city with no way to get to sea.

Essentially, I will have to restart the entire DLC over if I ever want to progress. I am not interested in doing this, and will likely never finish the DLC. Though it was rather boring anyways. A one dimensional character who worked well as a secondary character in the main game, but is just uninteresting to play as.

I would give the main game a 6-7 out of 10. -3 for the near game breaking controls, and .5-1 for the crap performance. I would give Freedom Cry a 3/10. -5 for being unable to complete it, -2 for being boring.

I think you are right, I gave myself awful RSI in my left little finger playing this such that I haven't played it for a few weeks because I'm scared to.
The downside is that its harder to control shooting, I damn hate playing shooters with a joystick.

I agree. For just about anything other than more simplistic vehicle games, I don't like controllers. Just too slow compared to a mouse. And if you are playing an advanced game, you should be using a HOTAS or wheel/pedals.

Game works fine with K+M. Not sure why you are facing this many issues. Controls/climbing etc are sometimes not good and character does get stuck. That is what happens when you build one of the largest worlds to play in (Skyrim also had these problems). However, never had the pick up weapon issue or a game breaking bug in the main game (still to try out DLC). Also I had no issues with pressing assassinate and character not killing the guard. Sometimes, while assassinating the character may get up in front of a guard directly watching the bush/haystack you are coming out of and then bells etc are rung which I believe is fine. Also never had the issue where I shot someone and did not have a response by AI to come after me. Character does crouch in some situations where it is contextual. However, in others you have to use the environment and people around you.

Game is fantastic for what it is. Shame that you did not enjoy it as much.

I hate to say it, but I found nothing to be this angry about in this game. I must be on crack or something compared to a few others in here, but I really don't see the issues. Sure, there's some, but it's getting into rage territory here, heh.

You do realize you can use both KB AND controller for AC4, yeah? I switched between the two regularly whenever it came to precise aiming. You're over exaggerating

It has nothing to do with the "size of the world" and everything to do with how they designed the controls. I guess you could say it's partially a world issue in that they put in too many objects that you can accidentally grab for no reason.

It is to do with level design and using sometimes, randomly generated assets on a level. The core traversal is well done and has been there for past 7 games. I cannot believe that is an issue in and of itself.

Also I was thinking about getting out of the bush to assassinate. I can't think of any other way to stealth kill without alerting the guards. Remember this is the 18th century and there is no such thing as silencers. Even if you stab a person in the foot/legs/torso that person is likely to make a huge sound. If you stab in the throat or direct in the heart while you cover the mouth, it is actually a stealth kill. Just a thought that came to my mind when I was pooping.

The thing for me with ALL these games is that they have like 3 actions bound to each button.

Depending on the context, sure. That's how you can fit complex actions onto a controller with four face buttons and four shoulders.

I find AC's control scheme much simpler and easier to use than, say, ArmA's. Context sensitive controls win out over just giving everything its own button.

Never had an issue with K+M and X360 controller. Also played Ass Creed Brotherhood on PS3 and didn't have any issues. The only game where it was an issue was I think original Ass Creed and 2 where they would put icons instead of telling you the key on the keyboard. It was resolved in all subsequent games.

Even then Ass Creed 2 was one of my favorite games and I didn't have any problems with it either. Also as stated above, the game has too many different actions instead of press E to win. It is bound to have some complexity. Hell, I gave my 9 year old son his own Ass Creed 4 profile and he also reached the city using keyboard and mouse. If he can do it, pretty sure everyone should be able to interpret the controls.

There's a big different between interpreting weird control schemes and making a control scheme that's weird.

Playing this game on x360 controller, like most of recent games - the only games I don't use controller are MMO and strategy games (and I don't play FPS). It's more natural, easier and fun than mouse.

Never run into any problem with AC4, though I consider this, Blacklist and FC3 as best games of last years, and I'm glad Ubi started to create such great things.

Well if some of you can't interpret after 7 games then there is an issue lol.

Also if something has been put in place across 7 games, I don't consider it weird at all. Either way to each his own. There were people who had issues with pressing down the run button so I guess anything is possible.

Next up, you would ask for voice command to play games lol. Imagine trying to get on a ledge with voice command.

You missed the point.

It is easy to interpret, AND it is weird.

This is a valid complaint. Most games have a toggle run/walk if you're going to be running most of the time. Or an "always run" setting so that you press a button to walk. Because of the way they've assigned buttons though, they can't really do that. As such, you pretty much always have run held down... which is silly.

Guys I just lost my save game, did a Google on it and it seems that it's a widespread problem with no solution is this true ? I was pretty far in the game so I have no motivation to start over without cloud sync witch seems to be the problem anyone have encountered this ?

always disable 'cloud save synchronization' in the Uplay settings...I lost a few hours of progress in AC2 when using the cloud...after that I always disable it

Can anyone upload their end game saved games? I reinstalled uplay and it nuked all my progress, I was done with the game and at about 85% sync total but will take anything near that or higher.

I'll take the chance that they haven't been stupid and put anything dangerous in the files. I have no idea if these are compatible cross-installation. I'm a bit sceptical due to all the different DLC and so on, but have a try if this looks appropriate. I have the deluxe edition.

Gah I came to ask the same thing about needing someones saved game cause mine got deleted. Eloj, the one you posted comes up "damaged" in my saved game slot so I guess you would have to need the same dlc I guess.

All the other saved games posted online are from pirated crap.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag actor says Ubisoft threatened to sue him for blabbing about the remake that everyone and their grandma knows is coming

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/assas...t-everyone-and-their-grandma-knows-is-coming/

According to Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag voice actor Matt Ryan (who played protagonist Edward Kenway), Ubi was a tad miffed when he got loose-lipped about the unannounced Black Flag remake we all know is coming. So miffed that the company threatened to sue him.

Sounds like this voice actor is in the wrong. Even without a contract or NDA it's an unwritten rule in any kind of media/tv/movies/games you STFU until given approval to do so. You usually can't even tell your close friends/family/spouse what you're working on. "someone else leaked it first" is no excuse.

That said it's pretty awesome a remake is coming, it's one of the most beloved titles in the series.

Yeah, I don't typically want to be on team Ubisoft, but I am in this case.
I'm totally game for a remake either way. Hopefully it isn't just a fresh coat of paint style remake.

They'd need to fix the controls and tweak things like tailing missions. This game had such shitty control issues, but was probably one of the best adventure games in the sense the adventure felt like one.

Insider-Gaming claims remaster will be announced in July, called "Black Flag Resynced".

https://insider-gaming.com/black-flag-resynced-release-date/

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced will launch July 9, 2026.

Insider Gaming can reveal that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, titled Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, will release on July 9, 2026.

Despite original plans for the game to be revealed today, April 16th, Ubisoft has decided to postpone the announcement until next week, while media and content creators received a roughly 30-minute presentation of the game earlier today.

While we won’t spoil what the game has in store, we can say it’s been completely reworked with a bunch of new content and updates, and honestly, it looks awesome. But one thing was made clear: despite the rumors and rumblings, Black Flag Resynced is not an RPG.

“This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG,” the presentation revealed.

They've been dragging this out for a while now. Either they didn't put enough resources into it, or maybe this is more of a reimagining vs. just adding HD textures and uncapped framerates to a game from 14 years ago. I'm interested either way, but I'm going to temper my expectations.
