LG C5 42"

As some follow-up, there have been some recent C5 firmware updates that I had not kept track of but installed over the last couple of days and I can report that this display is now quite a bit brighter than before. I am now more thoroughly enjoying it, and am comfortable describing it as a significant improvement over my CX48 which is still alive and kicking as a bedroom television now. I still wish there were a 42" G5 - ours also got similar updates and is blindingly bright.

There’s the 52” miniled monitor they’re putting out that does 240hz, but yeah most people I think will wait for 240hz oled. There’s simply no competition in that size category, with the LG 42-48” panels being the only good option, so they don’t feel the need to give us tandem RGB like they’re now doing with 27-32” monitors and every other tv size.

Oh I meant 240Hz in the 42/48 C series TVs. Seems like there's a lot of hold outs waiting for something like that. But at the snail's pace the C series gets improvements I imagine this will be the CX48 and C242 owners by the time they have something to upgrade to:

I quite like this setup. I considered a 55" G5 as a monitor for a while but even with my 32" deep desk, it's not enough space. I wasn't sure that I would want to permanently wall mount it either. I imagine sitting physically further away is easier on your eyes too while still maintaining the same FOV and PPD.

Mannn sick setup, saving this for inspo haha. Wish my local area had deals instead of delusional people on the marketplace, really want to get some nice speakers instead of my current soundbar but new stuff is so expensive

Wanted to start a thread on the 42" LG C5 which for any older school love-those-40-inch-4k-display types represents probably close to the peak option in this form factor.

I've had mine for about a week now, as an upgrade from a 48CX and the experience has been mixed, though trending positive.

The setup is very painful due to the software - the smart TV focus means way too much time figuring out how to select inputs (yeah, even the input button has been nuked from the remote, and replaced with various buttons for streaming services) to configuration. Eventually I was able to dial things in and the screen is indeed quite a bit brighter than the CX and very pleasant to use. That said, I continue to have glitches - Dolby Vision keeps reenabling when waking from sleep, even with it turned off in Windows; I have to turn it on then off after every resume from wake.

The screen itself is the form factor I wanted (48" was always a bit large for my desk) and the thin stands to the side that lift the television are actually a good match for PC use, with enough room to slide a laptop underneath, or stash a keyboard when not in use.

Anybody else have this screen or thinking about getting it?
I bought the 77" and am returning it. For TV viewing this set is not vibrant at all. My CX48 is brighter and more vibrant than this. Spectral highlights are almost non existent. Colors don't pop the way my 6 year CX does. SMH. Maybe a bad set?

I'd rather have and do have something larger (65", based the buy on viewing distance), but I got my parents a 42" for Christmas. It had to fit into mom's 20yo quarter sawn oak TV cabinet. Don't try to convince a 72yo woman to give up her "forever furniture". I'm just glad she didn't freak out when dad drilled a hole in an interior shelf to install a monitor arm for the new TV. I went with a 42" Samsung S90F due to the VESA mount of all things. It just barely fits. Stuffing a 42" screen that will barely fit into an old TV cabinet required a monitor arm. The Samsung weighed a bit less and more importantly used a 200mmx200mm VESA mount. The 42" LG used a 300x200 and weighed slightly more. 200x200 works with pretty much any monitor arm, but 300x200 requires an adaptor. Is the 42" LG better? I dunno, don't think it really matters. It replaced a 15yo 32" Visio POS.

I think I am going to buy the LG G6 55in as my next pc display. I love big displays for my pc rig. No neck issues or viewing distance problems here.

Decided to treat myself and make the jump to try OLED. I have the 42" arriving today or tomorrow.
According to the "ppd" calculators.. my viewing distance should be good

Upgrading from a Gigabyte 34" UWQHD 1440p IPS display. I don't chase frame rates... so not concerned with 240hz.. or whatever is the hype now days..
Hopefully this will not be disappointing 🤣

You won't regret it, I have an LG C2 42inch and now I'm waiting on a 48 inch C5. I sit about 4 feet away from the TV so I don't think going from 42 to 48inch will be too big for me.

Also I tried going from a 42 inch to a 34 inch OLED with higher refresh rate but couldn't handle the loss of screen size so I returned the 34 inch. Now I'm going bigger lol.

I’ve had the 42” C4 for half a year now and have no regrets for gaming or media. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

You won’t regret it. You can always do a custom 3840x1600 if you want 21:9 since some games are just better that way. I liked my C2 so much I picked up an 42” a90k for a side screen and another 43” lcd for the other side screen (for static content).

When LG finally updates the 42-48" OLED panels to tandem RGB and gives it 4k 240hz I'm thinking I'll replace the middle screen with a 48" OLED.

Thanks all for reassurance.

OMFG this thing is sick.. I haven't even pulled the film/plastic off the front (nor tweaked it) and it looks better than the IPS screen.
🤣

Ya going 3840x1600 for FPS games on big screens is much nicer. For all other games full screen immersion is better.
