Battlefield 6

Game is mostly dead unless you like playing with bots. Portal would of been cool had EA/Dice not kneecapped it from the beginning.

I play a few games daily, mostly RUSH and some Conquest, and hadn't been in a match with bots in months.

I only tried Portal a few times. Wacky game modes don't excite me tbh.

I think Vince Zampella's death had a terrible impact on the future of BF. I still play BF6 daily and would buy it again but it needs fresh content ASAP.

I'm basically at the same point, $8K in PC gaming gear and barely even use it anymore since modern gaming sucks.

LOL I hear ya. Last year built myself a new system;

9800X3D
RTX-5080 FE
64GB DDR5
45 inch OLED monitor

And I've been done with BF6 before Christmas, it just wasn't a new BF4 which is what I was expecting. Small maid, vehicles suck, it feels more like CoD than BF. The last great Battlefield game was BF1.

Only game I regularly play still is World of Warcraft and that's only at new expansion releases or big patches, otherwise I don't play it much besides those months.

Last good shooter I played was Doom Dark Ages, but even that game got pretty repetitive and kind of same old same old level after level.

Only play a few maps per week now days as my main issues aren't fixed by new stuff. Don't regret my purchase as I have gotten more than fair value for what I payed, but not sure if I would get BF 7 if it came out tomorrow. If I could go back in time to BF6 launch, then I would still pre-order it. It does feel like they have kind of wrong priorities though as some of the most pressing issues seems to be behind skins, maps, hardware etc. A lot would be better with a tuning pass on what is already there.

My main issues that doesn't go away by new stuff:
  1. Matchmaking and team balancing. Most games are a stomp one way or the other and it is rare that the winning team is below 300 tickets, more like 700 or so average in my games.
  2. Visibility is really poor at times. Let players force "default" skins client side and increase contrast in the game as it feels like grey on grey if you have a calibrated monitor. Only game where I put my monitor into "oversaturated" mode instead of calibrated.
  3. The player base. Throw those who think the line around capture points is made of snail pellets into their own special games and group players who play for objectives into another set of games.
  4. Destruction, sniper nests, capture point placement etc. A lot of the maps would play much better with a light tuning pass. E.g. move B and D on Mirak Valley much further apart and remove the high rise sniper nest to make the map play much better. Also capture points play worse and worse on most maps as almost all the cover is destructible. More selective destruction would make wonders. Siege of Cairo and Contaminated seems to be the maps where they put the most thought into destruction.
  5. Snipers and weapons are too accurate at range. Same recoil for all input and multiply it by 1.5-2 while removing bloom and increase recoil recovery while not firing by similar ammount. No sweetspot, 3x bullet drop and 3x sway on snipers.
  6. Assault should either have ammo+paddles or health packs. Support is overpowered atm. with both healing and ammo.

I mean, they released it, then immediately left certain things busted as fuck for weeks. The first patch like literally broke the main menu UI on all platforms and they dragged their feet on fixing that too. I don't know how that wasn't an emergency patch to follow up same or next day.

The matchmaker is dog shit. If you find a good, balanced game then haha fuck you, you're getting a brand new server in the next round. 90% chance it's going to be a blow out in either direction. And now the comeback mechanism is absolutely ridiculously overturned - you can legitimately dominate like 3/4ths of a game and still lose because they managed to get a flag advantage right at the end. Blowouts aren't fun but somehow they went above and beyond to find something even less fun.

Visibility is the worst in the series by far. They fucked themselves with the horrible handling of the skins. One team can be have 4 different colors running around. You basically cannot recognize whether someone is friendly or an enemy by skin. Which I'm assuming is why they have the worst fucking spotting system of the series.

And now they need to mark everyone because visibility is so awful. So now a gigantic swath of people feel obligated to run silencers on everything to work around this. Their monetization was such shit that it bled into gameplay, which I'd call a cardinal sin of micro transactions. Note how Valve prints literal billions of dollars without compromising Counter Strike. Just copy them.

Sweet spot is a stupid ass mechanic. Snipers are the most dumbed down they've ever been. Cool now there's auto zeroing and you can wipe someone without even hitting their head. I don't even think they're unbalanced, but it definitely made them even more enticing to shitty players.

I'd say maps at launched ranged from straight up bad to... alright. I don't think I'd even go as far to call one legitimately good. I think it was basically the weakest map pool in a Battlefield launch. They really fucked this up. And it's crazy because they could have just pilfered large chunks of the BR map and probably made a lot of people happy immediately.

Portal was a complete joke. It could have been completely awesome, but they shot themselves in the foot so hard they blew their own legs off as usual. They tried so hard to make unlocking weapons take fucking forever that people naturally created farms in portal, so they immediately fucked exp gain in it. Dead, done, platform is useless because nobody wants to gain jack shit for exp.

Vehicles are clunky to drive, combat is awkward as fuck in them. Tank battles are almost entirely who has more engineers. There's no nuance to it at all.

Like the game was right on the verge of being good. It just mishandles the simplest shit and fumbles. It's definitely cemented my assumption that they just... don't get the series at this point.

Instead we got idiots who got it in their head that "Battlefield moments" meant unintelligible cramped clusterfuck where you need to be getting shot from 4 angles while 3 building facades are collapsing at any given moment.

Been playing the new map and it feels great to play[1]. If this is an indication of the quality of the maps to come then I have no problem with having to wait an extra month or two or whatever for them.

I'm sure there's still a lot of players still having fun with the game, in NAE especially I never have a problem filling matches with real players, they fill fast and I have never seen it revert to bot fill. Sure the game has problems but there is still lots of fun to be had in this title, just go in expecting what it is - and not what you want it to be.

[1] (except for lack of cover against snipers in some areas, but that's a problem with the core game design and an issue on almost all maps)

Team Fortress 2 has more steam players than bf6. A game from 2007. Hahaha

I noticed that too and was like wtf. I remember that game was the shit almost 20 years ago. Can't believe it's still popular.

I don't have issues with snipers. Serpentine!!

My gameplay style is dropping a spawn beacon behind enemy lines and coming up from behind to take tags. Similar method was easier in BF3/4 though, lol.

Definition of bots?
Having a computer program play the game for you. For example, lets say you play a game like Diablo 2 where you need to farm (kill mobs and loot items) for hundreds of hours on end. You could run a program to login to your account and do this for say 8 hours straight while you're sleeping. Then you wake up and your account is full of profits you actually didn't play to earn. Bots are common in online-only isometric arpgs like Diablo 2 and PoE where you can trade items to other players.

In TF2 though, some bots tend to idle for Steam drops,or can be programmed to troll or harass other players.

Team Fortress 2's long-running bot issue hits a historical low as recent Steam reviews hit 'Mostly Negative' for the first time in its 17-year history

"What are players railing against in Team Fortress 2? Valve's apparent inability to fix bots. "My favorite game, a game I wish I could recommend, but as of recent years have grown to slowly drifted away from it due to the Hacker Bots. At the moment the game is just unplayable," one recent review writes."(source)

So the developer (or steam stats) might see 10,000 "players" playing, but it may actually be 500 players and 9,500 bots. (just random numbers for example sake)

They're even in CS2 deathmatches. They literally just exist to farm crates.

They mass vote kick sometimes too. Sometimes you can call a vote against one and they swarm the vote and kick one of themselves. Or you shoot one and they kick you.

Valve has been doing a pretty fucking garbage job of stopping this.

The problem is if you like to push objectives, only so many ways you can serpentine and you're already trying to keep 360 situation awareness at the objective and some dork sitting on a hill 150 meters is constantly taking pot shots at you. My biggest problems with snipers is it's usually lazy MOFO's that barely contribute anything to the game, sniping is the easiest it's ever been in any BF and almost always a one-shot kill. It's basically a trifecta of garbage that only detracts from the overall game.

And then on top add the worst net code I think I've experienced in an online shooter aside from Tarkov. Some are speculating it is the connection between PC players and DICE servers communicating with Consoles causing the problem. Turning off-crossplay would make this game ten times better.

Was playing on the TBG hardcore breakthrough server, game shutdown and I got an EA anti cheat detected an unacceptable configuration error.

This happened right after I called out and reported the other teams best player who was up to 100-3 K/D and was head shotting with a machine gun through smoke and enviromental fires using a thermal.

New map is okay, but infantry only. The Conquest version is clearly a new Locker style map. I like the TDM version. But they needed a large vehicle based Conquest map right now.

They reduced the level required for weapon camos which is nice. The battle pass progression is quicker and more reasonable. The challenges are much better and generally not mode dependent, things like get kills with a weapon type, revives, vehicle kills, and whatnot.

They did add a bug where weapon level is blank until you click on the attachment editing area and then you can see the level.

They need to drastically do something about tanks spamming tow missiles from across the map. How anyone could playtest this turd and not immediately see that as an issue is beyond me.

they just significantly slowed the missiles.

however that may be a buff if you're trying to track a schizophrenic heli

I like the new map, lots of hiding spots which I like. Agreed a large vehicle map is needed ASAP, especially with naval vehicles!

My first time playing BF6 firestorm I noticed tanks sitting at the far end borders of the map spamming tow missiles all round. I'll be honest, that moment I knew it was going to be a shit show. Sadly I've lost the enthusiasm after the all the patches haven't made any significant changes to the game. The vehicle gameplay and balance needs work. Also the maps are not great, I might revisit BF6 again soon just don't wanna be annoyed which is unfortunate because with the tweaks it would be awesome.

They added a DLSS version option. you can switch to 4.5 from 4.0 now.

not sure which to use tbh, since 4.5 was mainly for Ultra performance/performance? I'm using DLAA.

edit: tried it out. much worse performance at way higher watts on 5090 for no discernable change i can see.

It's simply not a very good game. People fell for the marketing and thought it was a return to bf3\4. It's more of an infantry focused game if anything with a really shitty selection of maps.

Playing more of Hagental, this time in RUSH mode. Its practically an impossible map to complete all the MCOM destruction which it makes a good LOCKER map replacement but it needs 1,000 tickets in order to be truly fun. Kinda like True Born Gaming's BF4 LOCKER servers.

People playing weekdays do not do anything except for play this game. No showers either from all their sweating.

While BF6 is great I find a couple of matches a day is fine for me. They're super intense, which I like, but my age may be a factor too. You gotta be constantly on your toes and paying attention to every little sound too.

Played the new map quite a bit. It feels like a nice change of pace from the other maps. Decent amount of flanking routes and most of the capture points are a lot of fun to fight over. The downside is that you need most of the players on both teams to want to play for the capture points as it becomes a snooze fest when one or both team(s) has 16+ turtles that just stop at the doorway and never move past it.

Shame they release the maps 1 by 1 though as you end up playing a lot of the same map so you end up getting tired of the new map after a few weeks. It would be much better if they released both of the season maps at the same time so one ended up going back and forth between the new maps.

Hope they rework some of the maps. Mirak Valley, Manhatten Bridge and Liberation Peak could all play a lot better with some moderate adjustments. New Sobek City is probably a lost cause though, unless they rebuild half the map and Operation Firestorm will probably continue to be a camp-fest, unless they up the player count to 48 vs 48 and remove XP for outside of the imediate area around capture points.

The new guns seems to be in the upper tiers of the spectrum with very high DPS. Like the new LMG has among the shortest TTKs in the game as it keeps 33dmg until 20 or so meters. Basically it has shorter TTK than pretty much anything outside of SCW, TR-7, KVM, SSG-553, NVO-228 and the new SMG below 9.1m and afaik only beaten by the TR-7 in between 9.1m and 20m. Only downside is ADS time and very long relead time with only 50 bullet belt. The big belt costs a fortune and fast reload belt is still 5.5s, which is a lot when capturing a point. The VCR-2 is also among the top guns in TTK below 20m. Not gotten the new SMG yet, as I refuse to pay for it, but it seems to be ridiculous as well.

Violet laser is a big buff to guns with low movement accuracy when ADS. Basically slap that on and you can move a lot in ADS and still be quite accurate. E.g. you can counter the movement penalty of the higher recoil reducing vertical grips by slapping it on the gun and it is not visible. Basically a blue laser, without the hipfire gains but not visibible to the enemy. If I used a blue laser, then it was usually for the added ADS while moving accuracy, not the hipfire so 3 wins as I get the same movement acccuracy, not visible to enemy and 10 points more to spend on attachments.

They mention they will clutter up Golmud, which might make it play worse. They did that to Firestorm and it just does not play the same. Maybe Golmud will be better but I fear it will be too cramped and too limited for vehicles.

Looks like a remake of Wake Island on the screens to.
