Julian Assange Arrested

MSM should be profusely collectively crapping their pants. Many are not becuase they are already beholden to the the state and are good little doggies.
They SHOULD have been defending him from the get go, it was clear what was going on. But being the good little puppies they are they helped the state destroy Assange, and make him this evil guy.. a step absolutely necessary to increase if not ensure his conviction.
Oops..

Or it could be something completely different. I like a conspiracy theory I heard a while back. The charges have nothing to do with prosecuting Assange but are only a tool to get him into the United States through extradition. That Assange is wanted so he can spill the beans on some secrets he's been holding out on or at least provide proof for some.

Truth be told, considering everything we've seen over the last several years, that's not really a far fetched conspiracy theory.

Occam's Razor fits this one.

It's possible, hell, almost anything is possible. But the simplest explanation is usually right and the US Government hasn't been doing anything that doesn't fit.

Still, who knows, I suppose we'll find out. Assange is a civilian. His trial won't be a Courts Martial like Manning's. I hope we find out the truth of it, it's bound to be interesting.

Assange got people killed. He also praised Hezbollah as freedom fighters when they are actually terrorists, and every leak of his harmed in the United States.

people who got taken in by him in full by him as some sort of freedom fighter are idiots.

Yes, like Reality Winner, a cleared contractor who divulged classified info to the Intercept, another foreign information source. She was all taken in by the Trump hate after the election and she just went right off the rails. Printed the document off a work printer and snuck it out in her underwear ffs. Hollywood couldn't make it up any better.

Perspective, it's all about perspective. There are people all over the US and elsewhere convinced that they are in a massive struggle against things, that the fate of us all hangs in the balance and some actually find the courage to act. On the one hand, I feel these people sometimes deserve props if it weren't for the underlying level of stupidity they frequently display as well. But mostly, I feel pity for them, that they have allowed themselves to loose all perspective and become energized to actions that really damage their lives.

It seems that each new martyr, that crashes and burns in their own well-intentioned self destruction, only serves to influence new ones.

Snowden, nothing changed, all his actions did was convince the government that instead of storing the data on their own systems, Verizon and the others will hold it, ready and available for access while the program it supports continues today.
Manning still doesn't realize today that he was just used by Assange to get what Assange couldn't by any other means. And what did Assange accomplish? All his wiki-leak's revelations didn't actually change anything did they? Nothing other than fueling some more wanna-be martyrs. Add to them Reality Winner, and any others you can think of and their only accomplishment has been to convince the US Federal Government that the "Trust Model" for national security concerns is no longer effective and therefor must be replaced with a KGB era oppressive network of counter-intelligence collection activity centered on sniffing out the leakers before they can leak.

I'm really glad that I'll be retiring from it all in a few years and I do hope I can let it all go. I'd rather just fish, see the beautiful world, and forget about all the global warming, social justice, etc bullshit. I'm pretty sure I'll be a hell of a lot happier if I can.

All I have to do is look at my old man, 84 years old watching Fox News and cussing the Democrats all day and night. I guess he enjoys it, and with his short term memory problem, every day is a new day to re-enjoy the same old bullshit (y)

UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights: UN expert says "collective persecution" of Julian Assange must end now

“The evidence is overwhelming and clear,” the expert said. “Mr. Assange has been deliberately exposed, for a period of several years, to progressively severe forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the cumulative effects of which can only be described as psychological torture.

“I condemn, in the strongest terms, the deliberate, concerted and sustained nature of the abuse inflicted on Mr. Assange and seriously deplore the consistent failure of all involved governments to take measures for the protection of his most fundamental human rights and dignity,” the expert said. “By displaying an attitude of complacency at best, and of complicity at worst, these governments have created an atmosphere of impunity encouraging Mr. Assange’s uninhibited vilification and abuse.”

...

“In 20 years of work with victims of war, violence and political persecution I have never seen a group of democratic States ganging up to deliberately isolate, demonise and abuse a single individual for such a long time and with so little regard for human dignity and the rule of law,” Melzer said. “The collective persecution of Julian Assange must end here and now!”

The biggest heartburn with this issue is Assuange was a f'ing hero when his leaks embarrassed Bush II but the second he embarassed Obama, he was a menace.

The problem is the people with the higher obligation than Assuage are the leakers. Yet you have people jump up and defend their pet leakers. There's nothing different from Assuange than an established media outlet. If they wouldn't face charges, than neither tshould he. There is no such thing as an established or professional class of Journalist in the constitution.

Aiding and abetting is different from merely reporting. We'll see if the US has evidence that he aided in the hacking and leaking of classified information.

Bradley Manning leak did not result in deaths by enemy forces, court hears

"The US counter-intelligence official who led the Pentagon's review into the fallout from the WikiLeaks disclosures of state secrets told the Bradley Manning sentencing hearing on Wednesday that no instances were ever found of any individual killed by enemy forces as a result of having been named in the releases."

Being named in a released document is not the only thing that leads to someone being killed. Look, I'm not backing the claim that Assange got people killed because I don't know of evidence that he did. But Manning outed a lot of information and just because nobody named in those documents has been targeted and killed as of the date of this trial, it doesn't mean that other kinds of information has not lead to deaths that otherwise may not have happened. Things like that are very hard to prove, but what isn't hard to prove is that the more your enemies know about you the greater your risk.
