Or it could be something completely different. I like a conspiracy theory I heard a while back. The charges have nothing to do with prosecuting Assange but are only a tool to get him into the United States through extradition. That Assange is wanted so he can spill the beans on some secrets he's been holding out on or at least provide proof for some.
Truth be told, considering everything we've seen over the last several years, that's not really a far fetched conspiracy theory.
Assange got people killed. He also praised Hezbollah as freedom fighters when they are actually terrorists, and every leak of his harmed in the United States.
people who got taken in by him in full by him as some sort of freedom fighter are idiots.
“The evidence is overwhelming and clear,” the expert said. “Mr. Assange has been deliberately exposed, for a period of several years, to progressively severe forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the cumulative effects of which can only be described as psychological torture.
“I condemn, in the strongest terms, the deliberate, concerted and sustained nature of the abuse inflicted on Mr. Assange and seriously deplore the consistent failure of all involved governments to take measures for the protection of his most fundamental human rights and dignity,” the expert said. “By displaying an attitude of complacency at best, and of complicity at worst, these governments have created an atmosphere of impunity encouraging Mr. Assange’s uninhibited vilification and abuse.”
...
“In 20 years of work with victims of war, violence and political persecution I have never seen a group of democratic States ganging up to deliberately isolate, demonise and abuse a single individual for such a long time and with so little regard for human dignity and the rule of law,” Melzer said. “The collective persecution of Julian Assange must end here and now!”
Assange got people killed.
The biggest heartburn with this issue is Assuange was a f'ing hero when his leaks embarrassed Bush II but the second he embarassed Obama, he was a menace.
The problem is the people with the higher obligation than Assuage are the leakers. Yet you have people jump up and defend their pet leakers. There's nothing different from Assuange than an established media outlet. If they wouldn't face charges, than neither tshould he. There is no such thing as an established or professional class of Journalist in the constitution.
Bradley Manning leak did not result in deaths by enemy forces, court hears
"The US counter-intelligence official who led the Pentagon's review into the fallout from the WikiLeaks disclosures of state secrets told the Bradley Manning sentencing hearing on Wednesday that no instances were ever found of any individual killed by enemy forces as a result of having been named in the releases."
