Vivendi says it has sold the remainder of its shares in Ubisoft. This amount represented a 5.9% stake in Ubisoft. Reuters reported that Vivendi made a capital gain of $249 million. Vivendi was determined to takeover Ubisoft, but Ubisoft was able to fight them off.

"Vivendi is no longer a Ubisoft shareholder and maintains its commitment to refrain from purchasing Ubisoft shares for a period of five years," Vivendi said in a statement. "Vivendi, which already owns Gameloft, a global leader in mobile video games, confirms its intention to continue to strengthen its position in the video games sector," it added.

Honestly, Tencent probably will make them better. Ubisoft hasn't put something out I've actually wanted in a longggg time. The last bunch of Farcry's, Assassin Creeds, and more were mostly the same shit. Plus they have a reputation for releasing buggy af games.

Except that Tencent bought the bulk of what Vivendi was selling.

I don't really agree with that at least with the AC games. AC: Origins and Odyssey are hardly like the "shame shit" compared to the earlier games. I didn't have any major issues playing them at release either. Nothing like the Batman Arkham Knight fiasco or even AC: Unity if you're staying with Ubisoft. I never bought a single item from the online "store" after I purchased them either and I beat both recent AC games without issue or requiring lootbox stuff.

It really makes you wonder why they sold actiblizzard if they’re so desperate to be in the games industry.

They were going through a major restructuring at the time and were having some financial issues. So when Kotic and co came to them with a few billion dollars they were ready to accept.

Except for the part of Tencent. Can’t say I like their spreading involvement to basically everything they can put their tendrils in.

So... does this mean that all of the cookie-cutter crap they've been putting out plus Uplay was all just a collective Vivendi nightmare? Will we all of a sudden see new and interesting Ubi titles the likes of which we never thought possible?

Probably not. :p

Wish my failures could net $1.2 billion Euros in profit. (counts previous sales of Ubisoft stock, probably before taxes).
