BioWare's new IP: Anthem

I mean CPU's and GPU are made to run at 100%?....not talking bad about anyone's PC, but the game might not do well on potato PC's.

Either way not a huge fan of the game. I was....but i dunno just not feeling it.

Didn't think my i7 was classed as a potato PC yet given that it has no problems with any other games. Something is definitely off, my last session whilst not great was noticeably smoother and more playable than yesterday with far less stutter and more consistent frame rates above 30 fps.

Just downloaded the demo, no way ill be buying this game but im curious how my system will run it! Will report back.

The demo has Denuvo in it which *might* be one of the contributing causes to the performance issues/high CPU usage/CPU spikes. Apparently it takes quite a lot of work to fine tune Denuvo to the point where the performance impact is not heavy, and most devs don't have staff on board who have experience doing that sort of DRM optimization. Of course this is speculation.

Just played it. Game looks gorgeous and ran great on my system @ 1440p with my 1080Ti. Not my type of game but looked and played damn well.. The shooting and movement mechanics felt great also.

Played last weekend and today. Going to stop and wait for full game.

I like how Storm and Interceptor suits play, makes it alot more distinct from Destiny 2.

Bunch of issues though so close to release, hopefully they will fix things quickly.

Awesome in-depth review.
Look, I could point out numerous things why it I didn't like it and what's wrong with it. In the end I didn't enjoy playing it so I didn't bother writing any deep stuff. I'll say though that even SWTOR is superior single player game (and that is an MMO).

Turning off public matchmaking and going solo for an expedition noticeable improved my frames. Seems to be some network optimisation issues. Can anyone else confirm?

Flying is still very unintuitive with KB/M. I hope they find a way to change it. Flying on a controller is a much better experience.

I'm laughing at the "outrage" of the clickbait youtubers.

Also reddit.....maybe some ppl should find a new hobby if every new game release drives them in to a rage...

Really wish people would stop giving the YT'ers bitching about the 20 dollar skins clicks. No one including them knows how much its all going to cost period. No one other than the Devs.

Its best just to use the controller for the flying and action, aiming is pretty good with it too. Probably has a auto-aim system built in it that makes it work.

I'm on Verizon FIOS so no network issues with team and solo play.

On a side note does anybody notice the male actors sound effeminate? Not what I expect from a post-apocalyptic world setting where everything wants to kill you.

Yeah the voice acting is kind of annoying. I'd prefer the tone we saw in The Division, to the best of my memory everyone was miserable and I wasn't getting much chatter while on the missions.

At this stage I've seen enough and will pick it up again at release.

Looking forward to see where this ends up. The Origin premier sub is working out pretty ok.

Nothing quite like falling through the map on a raid and then suffocating... This game is an utter mess

Also, kind of curious how they rate weapons... How is this sniper more powerful?

Sniping was pointless as it takes 3 hits for super weak enemies. I was shooting these spider crab things and it took 9 shots (3x reloads) to put one of those down. Everything is too bullet spongy for sniper rifles to feel remotely satisfying. In fact, I still maintain most of the weapons aren't satisfying to use. Not just because of the bullet sponge effect, but because the audio and visuals of the weapon impacts just aren't there to add that extra oomph to make those weapons feel right.

I disagree, the shots I'm taking have a satisfying oomph to them. I also have a Devastator sniper rifle which hits the Swarm Tyrant boss for up to 12,000 damage per shot which is about the damage you'll do with the ultimate ability. You do need to spec your Javelin appropriately, stack damage multipliers for the weapons/abilities you are using if you want to hit like a tank.

Yep, this is an issue. I actually crafted a sniper rifle with more damage rating than the Devastator I also have equipped, but the Devastator still hits harder. They really need to clarify this.

the shaper storm brought a new boss into the game- Ancient Ash Titan...

Well, you should consider this:

a) In terms of DPS (damage per second), weapons of the same level should be comparable.
b) DPS factors the amount of damage you do per shot and the firerate
c) A level 16 weapon can do less damage than a level 14... but it should have higher dps.

All things considered, the Devastator is a special weapon because you must charge the shot before actually firing it, and you the bullets one by one. I think that if you count the total time it takes to shoot + reload you are looking at higher than 5 seconds. The damage value being less (the rpm is at least 400% higher than it should be) might be because of the fact that you have to charge the weapon before firing.

I think that the damage value for the devastator is bugged because you must charge the weapon. Also, the RPM it states is clearly wrong.

If it's (the Devestator) just a single shot weapon (or 3 total shots), I think I will stick with my 5 shot sniper, because I was hitting the Tyrant for 16.5K damage across 5 shots (I think that was a level 15 Deadeye) . Not hard at all to deliver, either.

The Devestator excels at taking out groups....and the turrrets. The Deadeye sucks against turrets.

I guess because the Devestator is explosive. However, taking out groups has never been an issue for me with my supplemental weapons of Rocket and Grenades. Plus I don't like standing in one place charging / firing anything. Tried the support beam weapons a bit but found I was always getting dropped for sitting there and sustaining fire. Mobility will allow you to kill everything and stay alive while doing it. Never had an issue with turrets using pinpoint targeting with the Deadeye. Just gotta shoot the right parts of the turret.

I was often the only person left alive on the team in my basic Ranger suit. I would fly in, drop a bubble shield and rez the party over and over again. I was, essentially, the team medic.

Good thing I have both equipped :D

That's exactly how I use them as well, the Devastator for Turrents, mini-bosses, and bosses... and the Deadeye/Whirlwind to clean up trash mobs.

I like how you can be disabled mid air as the space wizard... I was trying to rez him but... I died because I couldn't reach him...

Not certain why folk really want to play m/kb with this game. It aims really well with the controller and the vibration effects are amazing.

kb/m is totally fine...you just need to practice a bit and get used to the movement and most importantly rebind the keys to fit your playstyle...for Anthem it took a few different keyboard/mouse configurations before I felt 100% comfortable...I can fly with ease and make complicated maneuvers just fine...I bound all abilities to my mouse (2 side buttons for the main abilities and middle mouse for the shield ability) except for the Ultimate which doesn't require as quick of a reflex so I put that on the kb close to my arrow movement...it's all about practice...too many people play a few matches with default key-bindings, don't learn the mechanics and then cry how the game sucks

Anthem is not the greatest game of all time but it's very fun...lots of customization...I love that it can be played solo or with friends/randoms...movement and combat feel amazing...it's literally the best version of Iron Man fighting on Pandora (from Avatar)...main thing I'm worried about is how much content there's going to be

PC UI Updates for Launch

Update on Alliance System and Guilds
At least they're trying, those were the reasons I actually uninstalled the demo in 10 seconds. (Motion blur / HDR / Menu navigation) Funny enough both motion blur and hdr worked in the alpha normally.

Did anybody try the VOIP? I didn't try it as I kept forgetting it was there but I also found there was no way to mute a potentially bad mouthed player too.

Only time I used it was to yell at idiots who had progress mechanic items for the strike.

In its current state on PC the game is a no-go for me. Once they implement UI changes and fix flying with KB/M then I'll take another look at the content of the game as a whole to decide. But after two weekends and approximately 8 hours of gameplay, nothing is making me itch to play the game again anytime soon.

yeah when you get a team that doesn't know what they're doing it sort of takes a bit of the fun out of the mission...I just had 2 Quickplay Stronghold missions where I had to exit out because no one knew where to go and what to do
I had an issue when I was doing the stronghold where I grabbed one of the echoes from the locked cages and I got disconnected after I grabbed. Apparently my character took it with them because my friend told me they couldn't find the last echo and everybody disconnected.
I also thought a lower recharge number meant it was better but I've seen items with a recharge of 20 with the arrow up indicating it's better...confusing
It's like Mass Effect, so a higher recharge rating on a piece of equipment means faster recharge time.
the primer/detonator aspect is an important part of the game which they don't explain at all in the demo...you need to set up your abilities where you use a Primer first followed by a Detonator to maximize the combo...
Again, will be familiar to people who played Mass Effect. Weapons and abilities clearly tell you if they're a primer or detonator. Enemies will also have icons above them when they're being affected by a primer.

Sandy Bridge came out 8 years ago, so it would be a potato by today's standards.
AMD-FX8350, I have a 9700k on the way which I know will help out with the FPS
Good deal, because that 8350 is definitely holding your video card back.

Not to debate with you on controller vs m/kb but did you try it with a controller? I can't imagine going to a m/kb after being spoiled with its vibration effects. Makes me wish you could get the same effect with m/kb too. I still think there is a built in auto-aim system as I got good shots with rifles that I know I couldn't pull off in other games with the controller, especially RE2.
