Samsung 960 Evo 1TB NVMe solid state drive for $249

I purchased one. I got the email in the morning about the lightning deal. It shows up as $299 on the reciept plus a $51.00 lightning deal discount

I have the OEM version of these drive, reads are 3,000MB/s and write are around 1,200MB/s.

Got mine for around $250 maybe 8 or 9 months ago. Nice drive!

You guys can find this drive, OEM on eBay for around $250 if you pay attention. I've seen several over the months.

OEM = Samsung 1TB PM961 / MZVLW1T0HMLH

eBay - New Samsung 1TB PM961 ( $245 )

OEM versions dont play nice with Samsung Magician for firmware updates or the Samsung data migration tool. For the same price it's a no brainer to get the retail unit.

This is correct. For anywhere near the same price buy the retail unit.

It's very easy to update firmware via the Lenovo tools. I've done this once already. That, and Samsung Magician does everything else other than firmware. You can benchmark an OEM Samsung 960 Pro within Magician.

if you can find the Samsung retail for $250, jump on it. It's a good price.

But there are really no draw backs to getting OEM either especially if you can get it for $250. Some guy was selling I think 10 and had maybe 6 left a month or so ago on eBay, the OEM Samsung 960 Pro NVMe for $199 each, free shipping. It just really comes down to how knowledgeable you are about what you can buy and how to maintain it. Not a lot of people know you can update the firmware via Lenovo. Granted, it's not wrapped in a pretty easy to use GUI interface.
