PSA: This Week Might Be Your Last Chance to Get Windows 10 for Free

Your statement was that Linux is not for gaming, and I pointed out there are more games than there are for systems DEDICATED TO GAMING. It is IRRELEVANT how many games are on Windows. This isn't a dick measurement competition. GAMING IS ON LINUX.

Whatever fucking excuse you want to use, do whatever man. Meanwhile, I'm having fun, and plenty others are, GAMING ON LINUX.

It's always interesting how Linux fans seem to preach about how wonderful choice is EXCEPT when it comes to gaming. In this case, whatever games end up on Linux is all anyone could ever want, never mind the 84% of games released on Windows that didn't get a Linux version. I get this logic works for Linux fans, it simply doesn't work for gamers.

Well for everyone masturbating because they are "making a stand" and not installing this, good for them.

Personally, I installed it on my laptop, I was not a fan of Win8 that was there with it's more "tablet" feel, even though yes I did turn it into a traditional desktop. I got it,so what.

I don't know what's more funny, the stats you pulled out of your ass, or that you think I have nothing to do with the gaming industry.

Pretty much everyone who is interested in actually paying for Win10 has already paid for it, or will already pay for it as part of a new computer. Everyone else will probably just stick with Windows 7. I'm not sure who they realistically expect is going to shell out $100+ for Windows 10. I actually like Win10, but I would never pay more than $20.

OFF TOPIC
I don't know what's more funny, the stats you pulled out of your ass, or that you think I have nothing to do with the gaming industry.

I was just counting the game releases on Steam for 2017 by platform. 1200 for Linux and 7400 for Windows. I don't see how one can consider Linux is good for PC gaming when the overwhelming majority of PC games aren't being released with Linux clients.

Eh, better than 8, performs just as good if not better than 7 & has some nifty apps (programs), I like the News App & Weather. Its a good OS, a bit intrusive though, but what isn't now days?

The only way I'm installing Windows 10 on any more of my systems is if Microsoft cuts me a big fat check. It's a glorified Windows ME IMO.

Like it or not, Windows 7 is already the new XP. It is old.

Deal with it.

I agree for the most part...normally I can see the value in skipping a new OS release (like ME or Vista) and waiting for the next version but with W10 there's nothing else coming out in the foreseeable future...W7 is still a solid OS but every day it's getting more and more out-dated...and it feels sluggish and 'old' compared to W10

Windows XP at its core is a pretty different OS to every other consumer Windows OS. Windows 7 at its core is still the same OS as Windows 10. So, no, I would have to say that Windows 7 is not like XP was throughout Windows 7's time. I would say that Windows 7 and 10 are near equals, and virtually all games and programs that work on Windows 10 work on Windows 7, and have just as good, often better performance in Windows 7 than they get in Windows 10.

For the most part, the only games and programs that don't work in Windows 7, but which work in Windows 10, are those that Microsoft has artificially made DirectX 12 only, specifically so that people won't be able to play them in Windows 7, to create an incentive for people to have Windows 10. There is no real advantage to Windows 10 over Windows 7, and I would say that there are far more disadvantages to using Windows 10 over Windows 7 than there are to using Windows 7 over Windows 10.

I'm using both Windows 7 and Windows 10 on my PC.

Rather than say that Windows 7 is the new XP, which it isn't, I would say that Windows 10 is a bloatware / adware / spyware version of Windows 7. And Windows 7 will likely become obsolete at the same time that Windows 10 becomes obsolete, because, at the core, they're the same OS - whereas XP to Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 is not the same OS.

If a person is running Windows 7, then they're basically running the most modern version of the Windows OS that is available. The rest is frills, and some negative changes.

I assure you, there are as many games, apps, and basic OS actions that are more sluggish in Windows 10 as there are that are more sluggish in Windows 7. Windows 7 is less resource-heavy than Windows 10, and performs a lot of OS actions snappier than Windows 10.

A flawed product being replaced by one that is by all measure better versus forced legacy through backhanded patches to break functionality. "its old" is easily challenged by "it works, and better"

I, for one, will bring this back OT: Thanks to this PSA and previous ones, I upgraded a Win7 machine which was covered in dust, in a closet, under dirty clothes, into a fresh Win10 machine and is now in use. It wasn't worth over a hundred bucks to bring it back to life, but for free? Sure.

Thanks.

Anyone who hasn't already done this may not know. But upgrading doesn't deactivate your previous Windows version key. So you can try it out risk-free.

Hehe, I find the term "risk-free" to be a bit ironic as it pertains to Windows 10. Check that,....I cannot stop laughing. :)

Microsoft trying to play hard to get when windows 10 is already hard to want.

Because there are actually games on Linux. The number is irrelevant for it being "good for PC gaming". I can _literally_ play more games than I have time in the day, for many years straight. Somehow, that's still not enough.

Give me a break.

I installed Win10 on a machine yesterday that hadn't already been upgraded. Activated just fine.
