So much for my day off. Bought Fallout 4 yesterday, waited the night for it to download and install and then tried to play it today. Now beyond the Heaven bench where it scores quite high, it's the first real test of my T3500/ GTX 1060.. Was rocking it at 60 frames solid. But then, screen went black and a restart did not bring it back. Tested another card and it worked, so I knew but re tried it anyway and, it's dead.. Now I'm back on my spare Radeon HD 77900.

Now I get to see what PNY's RMA is like.

Defective card... how long ago did you get it? If yer still within the return period, return/replace it. I avoid doing rma unless I absolutely have to.

Order 01/05/2017.. why did I not think of returning to retailer. I bought from Compsource

Seriously! I have a distaste for buying a defective product, then rma'ing it instead returning it. Fundamentally you lock yourself into buying a defective product if you rma, know what I mean?

You are more likely to get a refubrished card in returned if you RMA. If you still have the card just take it back to the retailer.

That sux man, have them send you a card first then RMA your old one back. See if they go for that.

^This! Take it back and get a brand new replacement. Be sure to have reciept/sales invoice in hand.

I filed with Compsource the retailer where I got it just a few mins ago

At least I can still play games. Even FO4 is running on med settings holding 42-50 FPS with the HD 7790. Not bad for a $40 video card, although I really did spend $150 on it in 2013

OP don't take this the wrong way, but I find PNY's products to be junk. I've had nothing but bad luck with PNY and will never own one of their products again. I wish you all the best with the new replacement or RMA.

This is first and last PNY card for me.I have a CS1311 SSD in my box which hasn't failed yet but I'm wondering now. I had a Palit GTS 250 a long time ago but I don't know if it was a PNY back then as Palit is PNY now..

Hmm, I had thought Palit was it's own entity unless PNY bought them out? In any case, you're a brave man owning PNY, my hat's off to ya! (y) Keep us posted on the video card's outcome!

I thought Palit was too, but I ran into reviews of this card stating there was a Palit version identical so I searched and found it. Same card but looks basically unbranded, not even having the Palit logo.

I think I'm going to try to exchange for a different brand through the retailer, due to my bad experience in less than a month. They might go for it, if they are a decent company. It's not an unreasonable request

I did a RMA back in the day with PNY for a 760 GTX and it was quick and painless. They sent me a brand new card (sealed retail box)

My last system had a pair of PNY 670s that I abused for three years without issue. They're a reputable company and have been at it quite a while.

Well to be fair you GTX 1060 killed your GTX 1060. Fallout is a workload like any other, the thing was just faulty.

I know. It was the first game I ran that wasn't from 2013 or prior. So first game that probably put a real workload on it.

I'm just glad I still have the 7790 as a spare and it can handle FO4 too. I bumped it up to medium settings. 40ish frames and its playable for me. Low settings gets it up to 60 frames.

I had one of those fail on me already. They were pretty good with the RMA though and I got a new CS1311 pretty quickly.

I guess ill be using acronis true image and backing up my computer image to tape.

Edit, oh wait that wont work. Its also the box that runs the tape drive. Doh. Guess back UPS to the server drives.

Should be easy enough to get a replacement as long as you registered it with PNY. They have a pretty solid warranty.

I got the retailer to send an MSI Armor OC 6G in place. $25 difference but I'm comfortable with MSI at least. The Radeon HD 7790 my computer is running right now is MSI

a gtx 1060 who made black screen. :cautious: That's really strange. Maybe other composant of your pc can't play correctly the game.

Nope. Game runs fine even with my spare Radeon HD 7790. I think the 1060 fan and temp sensors weren't working right and it fried before I knew it.

How large is your os drive? Use easus disk copy to make an image on another drive and vault the imaged drive. Btw, I hate tape!

Better card than the PNY and well worth the extra twenty-five bucks.

Nope, I have an older Samsung Syncmaster B2230. Runs 60hz never needed anymore. and in FO4 it locked 60 frames running ultra settings at 1920x1080

I have a defective PNY 670 sitting on my desk... "works" but once games came out that stressed the cards heavily I started getting black screens and crashes... guessing it was related to ram usage and it still runs older games (witcher 2) no problem... of course by time games like Tomb Raider came out it was past warranty. blah.

Sucks sorry to hear that. I have a 980ti lightning being RMA'd right now. Will be interesting to see what I get back.

Retailer just gave me notification that msi card is on its way. I had to call them and remind them though.

Nothing wrong with PNY, its all the same silicon anyway. Got my dad a PNY 1060 for 160 bucks on a black friday sale at jet & its got the Samsung memory on it according to GPUZ.

.....How's the new card?

A marginally slight bit faster than the PNY which was base/ reference clocked.. Probably got 1-2hr on FO4 with it so far and it's not dead yet. It's locked at 60-61 frames on ultra at 1080P.

I ran about 30 mins of Heaven in DX11 on Ultra at 1080P too. It's holding 40-65 frames in most instances but gets to 100+ in many. Holding 70*, where as the PNY would touch 72-73* but the benchmarks are so close, it's negligible

You can always find someone who had a bad experience with a product, and they're most likely the loud minority.

I've had 3 PNY video cards and all were rockstars: GeForce 8800 GTS and two GTX 770's in SLI.

Congrats on your success with the PNY cards. There are always pros and cons to every manufacturer and I'm sure everyone here has had them. I've had several PNY products, and my success rate is not as high as yours. ;)

My PNY GTX 470 just now took its last breath a few months ago in a spare computer I had around. Not to shabby for being in the computer the past 8 years, running at a very fermi like 95C its entire life. I agree, most cards out there , especially reference designs are close to the same quality. Its the RMA process that makes the difference.
