30. Goldeneye 007 I played the demo, seemed like a mediocre shooter at the time. Replace it with NOLF then we have a deal.
29. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 - If tycoon, then transport tycoon. I mean I still play that game to this day. 20 years later.
28. The Chronicles of Riddick - I liked this game at the time, for a quick cash grab off of a movie, this is as good as it gets. Sure it had it's flaws and didn't live up to it's full potential so no top 30, but still a very good game.
27. Uncharted 2 - I hate console crap like this. Bullet sponge enemies, weird QTEs a nightmare to play, no matter how good the story and narrative is.
26. Zork - Unfamiliar
25. Simcity 2000 - Somehow I think the original simcity was more interesting at the time. By the time this came out I had no interest in it.
24. C&C Red Alert 2 - Red alert 1 was the greatest C&C the second while good, didn't bring anything to the table apart from updated graphics, and uncalled for humor.
23. Full throttle - not top30 material. I actually re-played it about 8-10 years ago on my symbian nokia W950.
22. Super Mario RPG - Mario? Who is that. Give me Giana sisters.
21. Prison Architect - ....Obscure niche game, not very successful nor good.
20. FTL - Indie?
19. Alpha Protocol - On my backlog, remember the demo as a terrible buggy mess.
18. Far Cry 2 - Worst Far Cry ever on the list? The first game was very very very good. The second was a disaster.
17. World in Conflict - It had potential. But somehow it was very boring. Again nowhere near top 30 material.
16. Max Payne 2 - The story made it better than the first. So I can agree with this.
15. Deus Ex: Invisible - I mean why IW? Why not the original ? The original is my top 1 game. I loved IW too, but choosing it over the original is just nuts.
14. Counter Strike - MP so not a game for me, get it out of here.
13. Splinter Cell: Double Agent - You idiot. How about any other parts of the series, since all of them were better, and not buggy messes? My choice: Chaos Theory. That would fit in my top30 prob.
12. The Dig - Actually played this just like Full throttle. Weird. But it wouldn't get on the list.
11. Portal 2 - I liked it. More clever than the first, and loved Stephen Merchant as the idiotic orb. Would it make a top 30 list? Hard to tell, probably on the margins.
10. Red Dead Redemption - See uncharted. I will never play a shooter on a console.
9. Burnout Paradise - Criterion? GTFO. The company that makes car games, and have zero understanding of physics and car dynamics.
8. ME 3 - Best is 2nd. Altough the DLCs did bring up this to be on par. So I guess I can concede this one.
7. Tie Fighter - No arguments here.
6. Half Life 2 - The first had much more of a WOW factor to me. So again replace the original over the sequel.
5. GTA: San Andreas - I'd have chosen Vice City. But this one was good too. Not top30 prob.
4. SW:KoToR 2 - I didn't like it when it was new. I was new to the genre. Revisited it after ME, felt too dated. So it's a no for me.
3. Witcher 3 - Didn't like the first, outright hated the second, never played the third.
2. CoD Black ops 2 - First was better Butt even that wouldn't be top 30.
1. God - What? Couldn't you find a more obscure unknown game?

It's a let's make a top30 games list from games that never been on top games lists.

List was pretty good up to that point. Definitely a few I thought were disputable to be on a "best ever" list, but all great games. Then I got to Far Cry 2... WHAT? Then Max Payne 2?

I have a feeling these were the writer's personal favourite games, and a few are click-bait to infuriate you and keep you turning the pages.

The MG series is a decent stealth action game with some interesting (although at time cludgy) mechanics.

The story lines and dialogue are throw-up-in-your-mouth cringe worthy. It's not even wink-of-the-eye bad, or cutesy anime bad -- just bowel-shudderingly dorky. It's the worst, overrought Japanese pulp drivel written by a 60 year-old trying to appeal to teen boys. My whole being makes an "eewww..." shudder just thinking about how bad it is. I really tried with Phantom Pain to watch a couple cutscenes, but after about 3-4, had to skip them all.

Yeah but the cringe-worthyyness is a series staple, fan service almost. In general the story of the MG games are twists on cold war era Hollywood tropes

Interesting that they would choose Black Ops 2 over Modern Warfare. At least they threw Zork and Goldeneye in there though.

I'm not sure you could really create an undisputed cross-platform "greatest of all time" list. The list isn't great, but it's not completely terrible either.

Agreed. Black Ops 2 had great multiplayer, but the single player was shit. CoD 4 was the better game overall.

Remember, though, that this list is controversial and a slideshow for a reason. All it's for is to generate revenue for the website it's hosted on.
 
Everyone is going to have a different list. I have a friend that plays drivings sims and hates PvP, so his list would look craptacular to me. I'm surprised Portal 2 was as low as it was. And the number 1 spot, I assume they bought that spot and this was some lame attempt to market that game.

Pretty clear you haven't played Uncharted 2. Only the first game had Bullet Sponge enemies. Few QTE.

I'm the same way with strategy games. You wouldn't see any StarCraft, Warcraft or Civilization in my list.
 
Far Cry 2 - omg I hated that one. I mean as soon as you get out of draw distance checkpoints were instantly respawned. Like some dude called 1-800-BAD-MENZ and got a parachute drop as soon as you turned your back.

DE:IW seems like a fucked up google research of Deus Ex. Especially when Deus Ex alone is most likely going yield Human Revolution.
 
"Best" without objective criteria is just opinion. If you had a list of "best selling" or "top rated" you could compile an objective list. Otherwise, it really is a "my favorites" list.

Just Cause 2 is an excellent game. I haven't beat it, but I just go on and do my own thing rather than all the missions. :)

Top 30? That's the authors top 30.

What's the criteria? Influential? Rogue would be on there. Over the top, text based, dungeon style game.

Gameplay? Addictive? Audio? Multiplayer?

Yup, but it wouldn't be in my top 30 list. Top 100 for sure. It's a huge game if you do everything and mess around. Steam says I played for 132 hours but it seems like it was much longer than that.
