No Man's Sky - a procedurally generated sand box space exploration game

I haven't read much about this game. Shoot me straight, is it shit?

It's your typical survival/crafting game without true multiplayer and a sci-fi twist. The game is fun if you are into that kind of thing, mundane tasks over and over again. If it's not your thing, save your money.

So was this game developed/coded primarily/first for the PS4 and being ported over to PC? If so, ugh, prepare for it to likely suck quite a bit on PC, ie. unoptimzed etc. Guess we shall see. I am sure the Steam rage will be quite epic on day 1. And crap, $60 for PC? No.Freaking.Way. Will wait for it to go on sale.

This is what I'm most interested in. Pointless Reddit-rage regarding the 'multiplayer' aside, I'd like to know how this runs on a stacked PC. Stable Framerate? Proper FOV adjusting? Texture/Graphic pop-in?

One thing I notice is that they are all non-US version. I wonder if the ESRB rated US versions will be like that.

Fixed that.

You fixed nothing, you just proved you are part of the problem.

You don't think its bad business and that a company should face legal repercussions for marketing something as one thing and delivering another. Opinion noted and you discarded.

Before you no doubt put more words into my mouth, or call me a whiny whatever, I actually perfer that the game be single player. Personally I dislike most multiplayer experiences. On the other hand I can be both that and understand the very understandable outrage over being told one thing and sold another, game, food, home, whatever, it is all the same. You are the consumer they are the supplier, if you don't hold them accountable for one thing, you have no moral right to hold them accountable for another.

I think customers should stop being babies and "outraged" because they CHOSE to gamble $60 on a preorder. Preordering is inherently risky and almost all major problems like this can be discovered before a purchase. People can simply wait one day to buy the game. Or they can preorder a physical copy and not open it until they see feedback.

No one should be pissed when they alone made the decision to throw $60 down a hole before ever seeing actual gameplay or details. The game had warning signs all over it.

Damn its still not up on amazon for PC.

Prob some sort of pre order thing going on to limit where its sold until after release.

At what point was No Man's Sky marketed as being multiplayer?

At the point they said "Oh sure, you can see other players in the universe but it's highly unlikely you will".

Apparently "highly unlikely" meant "never because we didn't actually implement that functionality".

No, they've actually been very vague about it. Like intentionally avoiding the question. They did in fact state that you could see other players though. However, maybe it uses some form of instancing, and those guys just happened to not be able to see each other because of it. The devs haven't responded in detail, and are likely looking into it. I seriously doubt they just flat out lied. That's not good for business, and I think a small studio like that wants to keep making games. People just like to freak out at the smallest bullshit whether or not they are in full possession of the facts. We'll see how it all hashes out, but until we either get an official word on it one way or the other, or some additional evidence that it doesn't allow it, I think people can drop the pitch-forks. If you don't want to buy the game until that's decided fine. Personally I don't honestly know anyone with the game, so the minuscule MP element (while cool) isn't really a big deal. The game looks cool enough as is. (especially since I like exploring) I'll know whether it was worth it tomorrow after I play it. I have a feeling it will be plenty of fun. I do think it's funny how pissed off people get about a game they have no intention of buying anyway, or only "paying $10 for".

But really, there hasn't been a game in the history of video gaming where nobody could find out if a major feature existed or not.

It is a very weird situation. The lack of a clear answer or even a "We're looking into it" is interesting.

I like how all the lonewolf people make it seem like it would ruin the singleplayer experience if the game let you create your character in the same star system as your friends.

If its really as big as they say it is, you'd never run into these people that are off identifying fauna and building on the same planet as their friends. Its literally the best of both worlds.

You're not stupid, no reason to troll.

I do hope that it will be possible to eventually group up, but since they are planning many updates for free I figure it's still worth it to check out.

Dunk's view on it is pretty much what I expect from the game. Massive worlds with little substance.

Something else interesting is that there seem to be no deals on this game whatsoever. You can't even find keys on GMG or cdkeys at all.

Already preordered on GOG so I get to see it for myself tomorrow. It's the first game I paid full retail price for since 2010 (Mass Effect 2 PC). Since then I have always had some kind of preorder discount of at least a min of 25%. :)
