World of Warships Enters Open Beta!

Bots are part of the reason I haven't bothered playing a lot of online games these days to be honest.

I wouldn't know about world of warships personally, but they have been around in any MMO's for well over a decade now.

I used to see some set up a long time ago just for resource gathering way long ago.

Yeah, I know that isn't an MMO.

Time to throw down some BB-oriented user replays and tips:

You guys should be able to identify the various issues from the first two replays. Once you watch the third part of the video you should also be able to identify the clear difference in experience and skill that's presented over the first two. If not then the video is definitely meant for you :D

I love it when people don't respect the tiny russian CA guns, even better when it's another russian cruiser. Another chappy came into C on hotspot, I think hoping to radar banana/digital viper-x in his benson, either not realizing I was over the east side of it (beached hard even..lol), and his guns were pointed at B, and was going at like 1/4 speed about 5km from me. I think he was 9 of those cits..

Awesome video!

I think I'd really like the Tirpitz. I might have to grab it next time it's up for sale.

I like the NC. It's very consistent for me and people have trouble penning it if you stay angled to some extent.

The Tirpitz is no NC.

While you can citadel some stuff if you hit it, the problem with the
TirPitz is you have to hit it first. As I've said before, it's like throwing popcorn.

When you can lay a perfect full salvo on a broadside cruiser at say 10k, and shells land to the port, stbd, off the bow and stern and not one GD shell hits the target well, then, the RMJezus is not with that ship.

Zao. 13k and counting.....

Anyone know what the purchase price is?

The first Fuso match is all about terrible positioning. Sure, he gets hits and kills, but very poor decisions.
He got lucky that the enemy team played absolutely terrible.

The NC replay was pure tunnel vision. He got lucky with enemies showing lots of broadside, but again, poor positioning. Had a good player been on the enemy team, he would have been dispatched early on.

A dead giveaway for me was sailing at full speed all the time. Not enough players know how to throttle dodge.

The tirpitz match was good. The biggest thing to notice is positioning and situation awareness. Hes always angling, and always checking his surroundings.

More people need to watch your videos like this. Goes to show that you can get lots of kills and do big damage but still be a terrible player.

To follow up on my chappy pic above, I 1v1'd a des moines, both of us 100% health all guns, no torps (well I launched, but killed him before they got there), from 3-4km. I knew he was coming, and hit the radar right before he came around the corner, so I had my guns lined up and a little better angling. 12 cits in I think 3 salvo's. He knocked me down to about 6k when my last salvo put him down. Damn that was fun.

I had my first decent match (2200 base exp) in my balti yesterday. Brawled at around 6k with a Hindenburg. Killed him off with half my health left.

Apparently balti guns do really well up close. It's like a DD without smoke or torps.... Meh.

I love brawls. Good job taking a des out with a chappy!

It took me about 100 recordings to complete that video because, initially, I was very negative towards the SGT_STAGGY's play and positioning overall. Considering the Montana video that came before it I didn't want to continue the negativity but I think I scaled it back too much. That Fuso match is an excellent example of many different things not least of which is tunnel vision (which the second replay has a lot of, too) and poor positioning by both himself and his teammates. Both the Fuso and NC matches go to show how vulnerable you become when you turn without assessing your surroundings and both were lucky as hell that it didn't cost them their ship multiple times over.

At the very least, though, with the NC he was full bore until he was engaged by the Kongo and Colorado as he didn't have much reason to throttle dodge prior to that. He had poor target prioritization and ship handling there, without a doubt, but shit I was just amazed he got all the way around the map like that, lol.

edit
And yeah, 100 audio recordings ranging from 2 seconds to 10 minutes weighing in at 1gb and 1 hour and 26 minutes. I had a lot of background interference from within and without of my home over the day and a half that I recorded the audio.

The original 3 replay files were 54 minutes, managed to drop down to 34 and then to 25. This one took a lot more work than most, christ, lol

Got my Zao and....

Holy shit I LOVE this ship !!!

Now THIS is my kind of gun. High Velocity, flat shooting, goes where you point it without feeling like you are playing Horseshoes :)

I do need to work on my lead times though. The thing shoots so fast and flat, I'm over-leading everything.

Now that I have it, they'll Nerf it LOL

I'm going for a concealment setup. I think I'm down to 11.7 or something. I am WAY away from a 15 point captain.

I have a 15, soon to be 16, point captain for IJN, but he's my money maker in my Isokaze, and gets shared in the Premium IJN ships I have. He ain't going no where.

For now a 12 pointer will have to do.

Ever have one of those matches where one screenshot raises so many different questions that you don't know where to begin?

Well, as the final match of the night, here's one:
YKrVNwL.jpg

I was crying on stream from laughing so fucking hard. Double Close Quarters Strike to end the match and not even 9k in total damage. Fucking hilarious

Um, where did that Battle Performance number come from ? Is this a beta ?

It's his total damage... So he has three close quarters and only 8750 dmg :)

Aslains mod pack has the mod in it.

Ah, ok. It was the mod pack.

Interesting to see where that goes with the 5.5 update.

Literally, the funniest 2 games, back to back... I'm not really into making videos, but I had to post these up :). Both of these clips, made me feel like I was sitting on a golden horseshoe ...

Clip one... 5 minutes into the game, 80K+ damage :D bahahaha Torps meant for the NC hit the Amagi, twice :p

Clip two... bora(benjdm) got stuck in a bad spot on the baltimore.. I thought I'd try to move up and take some attention away from him... a set of torps made sure I couldn't turn back, I won't spoil this one, it's worth watching, both are only 5 min or less :)

Wow nice games.

Ibuki doesn't seem to like to bounce anything. :)

no she does not, plus I was so blown away by the fact that I nailed both of them, laughing my ass off... so I didn't pay much attention to my impending doom :p
She has really good torps, and considering your close range to those battleships, it could have gone worse, nothing else is going to bounce 16in shells that close. The nice thing about the Ibuki is it can also fight at 19km.

The Zao torps have been a downer for me. The angles are terrible and the range is shorter....sure they are wickid fast, but i would have liked 2km more range.

Finished today's stream with a hell of a match in the Benson:

Pits got super sweaty during this one, not gonna lie. I was so close to getting le rekt by a North Carolina that was within 3.6-3.8km at the beginning of the match which created a Butt Pucker Factor™ of 8.4. We had an AFK and possibly a bot on the team as well.

I need some help here.

I love the Zao, but I'm not exactly sure how to skipper it.

I've been playing just outside my detection range as much as possible, sniping at anything that comes within my gun range. The problem is I'm not generating enough coin or getting enough kills to pay costs much less build up the bank.

If I get more agressive and start fighting in the 8-10k range, it turns into a focus magnet for the other team. Even when angled it takes hits pretty hard. I was once one-shot with full damage to zero with a single shell. I'm not sure where it came from. that was an odd incident and something I haven't experienced but once. But man does the other team love to light up a Zao when it's visible LOL

I certainly do not think it's a good choice for in-close DD killing. The guns, while awesome, have a cycle time that's too long for effective DD killing I think.

I'm also still trying to determine if it's a better HE or AP ship. So far, it seems to me it's better to shoot with HE. It seems to set things on fire pretty easily . I'm not getting the Citadel's I thought I would get with AP, but then again this IS a T10 ship fighting other T10 ships :)

So, how is the Zao best played?

If I play carefully just outside my detection range, I tend to survive every game but don't get shit for my troubles.

Oh, and after about 10 to 15 games, I have YET to be in a winning team with the Zao.

the reason Zaos get focused so quickly, is because they rain down 8-12k HE salvos on BBs and cruisers, so it's important that they not be left alone :)

IMO stick to HE unless you have a cruiser up close that is broadside(And some BBs). (Pretty much the same way I play the Ibuki)

you should have no problem invisifiring on some BBs, and generating enough $$ to make it not bad, I was able to get into invisifire range on the ibuki against 2 yamatos, did a bit over 70k damage in fires.

I finally started going down the US cruiser line again, I stoped at the Cleveland becasue I heard terrible things about the Pensacola. I figured with the discount going on I should give it a try. I wish I would have played it sooner, these guns are amazing. Citadels for days.... it may be paper but it can wiggle like crazy. Liking it so far.

I sold the Cleveland.

Hmmm second match with the Kiev, first hit, detonation... I said in chat "wooo free flags!" trying to keep it positive. :) I love how fast that ship is. Tempted to switch from DE to the +400hp/tier. What do you guys thing? I also use the capt in my Murmansk and Mikhail so I was hanging on to DE...

I think when I get there the Udalio is going to replace my Balti for T9. I like my Hindenburg for T10. Udalio is a beast?

Yeah, the udaloi is pretty strong. The gun upgrade gets you even flatter arcs and a touch more AP pen power. The big downside for me was the turret loss, it's not that uncommon to lose 2 of the 3 turrets, which basically relegates you to sitting in he back and spamming short range torps. Hopefully the new turret HP pool will make that much more uncommon in the next patch.

Is DE your second T4 skill or did you pass up AFT? Because I would take aft 11 out of 10 times on the russian dd's. Those guns with aft are usable to 100% of their range, unlike the US dd's.

So, what next.

I've got my T10 Cruiser in the Zao.
I've got what is probably the best T9 Destroyer (Fletcher). Probably the best overall DD in the game, though I personally give that award to the T4 IsoKazi.
I have the NC as my T8 Battleship.
I don't do Carriers.
I have all sorts of T4-7 ships that I like (St. Louie Slugger, Murmansk, Omaha, MarbleHead, Schors, Kutazov, etc...)
I have a good number of premium shjps (Itchy-Kuzi - not a bad little ship!, Murmansk, TurdPutz, KamiKaze, Atago, Kutazov) (I sold the Blysky to help pay for the Zao - I just didn't see the point in that ship).

I've built myself up to the point where I think I can start really enjoying it more instead of fighting up the ladder (and finally stop spending so damn much money on it LOL).

But coin accru's, and XP is gained. Ya gotta do something with it, eventually, and it's nice to have some sort of direction in mind.

The obvious choice would seem to be the Iowa Upgrade, but I dunno. Never been a slow-fire kinda guy. I do ok, but I'm more of a DD/fast cruiser high action kinda guy. The Zao is about as laid back as I care to get.

Did I just use Zao and Laid Back in the same sentence? LOL

Anyway, hmmm... What next.

I didn't really investigate the Russian DD's beyond a certain point. I really can't stand having torps with shorter than detection range. They kinda force us to play DD's like Submarine's in this game, and so be it. But that's hard to do when the ranges are all wrong. The Fletcher invisifre thing is fun, but makes you feel like a heel after a while :)

A submarine would be awesome :)

Iowa BB? Russian DD?

Keep going in the Russian Cruiser line past the Schors?

Pile it up until we get Submarines?

Spend it on Pizza?

Got in a few games over the weekend.

Realized how much I dislike the Pepsicoloa. It is very allergic to battleships. Did get up to 80k exp so not to much farther to the Baltimore. Hopefully that gets better.

Finding Saipan hard to get good torpedo hits with in higher tier games. The spread is wide and with all the AA., 3 plane torpedo squadrons don't live that long if you drop too close you lose a plane or two and if you drop to far they can dodge with your large spread. Did manage to bag an Iowa though.

the Iowa is a fun BB to play, more fun than the NC IMO. Def go for it.

A good thing about that is I have about 70k in XP built up on the North Carolina. I should have the rest of the XP earned in a weekend or two.

I try to get everything out of the weekend specials on every ship that I can. That does tend to spread the practice effort though.

I've become quite deadly in the Iso becasue I've been hammering the shit out of it for the last month, especially since I got him a 15 point captain and 5.4 det range :)

Baltimore is a cruiser :p

The Des Moines is also fun to play for me :) But the Iowa almost always takes the cake, I'd put it up there with the Fuso.

My current fleet.

I obviously use shared captains :)

Oops, fixed that. I meant NC of course :)

I don't remember the Fuso much. Is it worth re-buying and adding to the fleet for Ranked?
