They did the same thing with the Kiev. It was OP, and instead of hitting it with a gentle nerf hammer, they called on thor himself to drop his hammer of the Gods from the stratosphere at the speed of light into the nerf button.


been playing the kiev today, yeah that shits broken, lol.. legit sat behind an island for 15 minutes peppering the entire enemy team, wasn't a damn thing they could do about it. once my captains retrained, all hells going to break loose.

the turret rotation change was probably the biggest screw up. if they were really that worried about transverse speed, they probably should of switched it to a 3 stage skill.. 139mm 7./s 200mm 4./s larger than 200mm .7/s and actually wouldn't surprise me if that ends up being the change after seeing the numbers on the russian cruisers.. because beyond T4 all their guns are 180mm or larger.. yeah have fun with that transverse speed..

the cleveland needed to be nerfed, but it didn't need to be nerfed that much..

It definitely needed the BFT/AFT nerf but I really don't understand the purpose of Expert Marksmen being handled like that. It shit all over the ships in such an unnecessary way that it almost seems vindictive. Making it 3 stage would be an interesting compromise.

It wasn't meant as harshly as you think. I was surprised that your post mentioned that despite the last few pages discussing the BFT/AFT/EM nerfs that the light cruisers were going to receive.
 
I had a bunch of good games with the Cleveland, had enough XP on the Omaha. Went 10 out of 13. Most of the time was in 1st around 1900XP. I was using the 15 point captain off my Atlanta, which I can switch back and forth.

I like the better AP. 4k slavos against New Mexicos are fun, especially on their back side. I missed the torps on the Atlanta a few times. BB coming around the bend? Ah shit this is going to take a whole bunch of time...

Took the NC out for spin last night. It's been a while. Still had the New Years 4%/100% Camo on it LOL Had a pretty righteous game.

Ran some games in the Fletcher too. Have all the upgrades now. Still haven't used the speed update captains skill. I don't want to give up the range, and the torps are already fast at 66 or 68 knots (I forget which). Also got the gun upgrade last night. I think all it did was add a few deg to elevation to provide the extra range. I was really hoping for a bit more velocity instead.

Ran 6 games or so in the NC, Fletcher and KamiKaze. Ran one or two in the Shima. The Shima is kinda losing it's shine for me since I got the fletcher. The Fletcher has just so much more of a "pain in the ass" factor to the red team :)

But a wall of 15 torpedoes is pretty damn fancy sometimes too.

You know what would be neat? If you knew WHAT map/game you were about to go in so you could pick the best ship for it. The MM would, of course, limit the number of types of ships. A game with 24 Carriers would be... well, wait a minute. That might actually be fun LOL
 
It would be cool to have ship type vs ship type. Something anyways. I guess you could do a team game with 7 DDs, CAs or BBs. That'd be hilarious. Maybe 6BBs and a good CV that would spot DDs?

NC... I do ok in her. She can take a beating that's for sure.

The nicholas was a fun boat. I don't play it much now, but with dual torp racks on each side, and the ability to cit cruisers at 4 or 5km, it could do some real damage.

yeah i loved the nicholas, the farragut is a massive let down compared to it though but at least they slightly made the farragut better after CBT.

op success i beat business twice today, thats a record for me... now matchmaking please stop screwing me over and putting me on the enemy team! played 11 games, got stuck on the enemy team against business, kami, and chib 10 times.. grrrrrr!!!!!
 
I had a horrible night last night! No matter what DD I used, it was like I had a beacon of some sort blasting away my location. It was almost funny. My games in the Omaha and Murmansk were just plain terrible. One game in the Murmansk I made it to the cap area, was snuggled nice up against a big mountain undetected, then BOOM! One-shot. According to the game I was "Devastated Hit" (no shit) by a cruiser way on the other side of the circle also hidden in behind a mountain. Never saw or heard anything.

The only games I had where I survived were in the North Carolina, and in those games it seemed that I could not hit the broad side of a barn from INSIDE the damned barn, and if I was on target exactly 22.345ms before my shells would hit the target someone elses would and get the kill.

It was a very weird night for sure.
 
Looks like they are trying to get people to play carriers this month. Do carriers get better later in the line?

I thought the Bogue was pretty bad, Clevelands and Omahas abount would eat all your planes and you would have to go fighter load out to compete with the others running the 2 fighter load out really only good for that 150 plane ARP mission. Hosho was hard to get much off with all the bogues with 2 fighters and omahas.
 
Personally, I don't know. I never really got the knack for Carriers, mainly because they force you to play in a manner I don't want to play.

First, I want to drive Carriers as a ship supporting the rest of the fleet. This means protecting BB's and everyone else from Torp and Bomb planes. They can kill the ships, I want to help them stay alive to do that. There are two problems with this as the game is currently:

1. You can't outfit your carrier as you see fit. I want fighter planes. Period. I don't need to kill ships. The other guys can do that.
2. The pay out for shooting down planes is PATHETIC and has the game warped in more way than one. First, it doesn't pay to drive a carrier in protective mode (which is why it's like pulling teeth to get sufficient air support from your carriers - they are busy trying to kill ships and make money) and second, ships that should be assisting with AA don't because, again, you can't even afford to repair your ship with the paltry coinage they pay for downing aircraft. You are forced to become a ship killer only.

I know I sound like a broken record on this, but I truly believe I'm right. Until they start paying REAL coin for downing aircraft, the game will never be right for Carriers or AA assistance.
 
You get more squadrons as you progress down the carrier line. I usually run strike on my Lexington 3 DB, 1 TB.

You want to stay away from Clevelands. I usually start my first wave on the DDs and the second wave I take out a CV. One thing I'll do is use a DB squadron and set a ship on fire. Then when they repair I send in the rest. Very effective on CVs especially if their fighters are elsewhere.

A fighter spec I can usually trick by sending on squadron across the map, then when I see him chasing it I'll send in my other three groups against the CV.

By far one of the best things a CV can do is spot/ take out DDs which dive bombers are great for. I'd at least get to T6. There you have enough planes you can suicide/waste a few.

Yeah the closest you can get is with the Bogue with 2 fighters and 1 DB or my Lexi can use 2 F and 2 DB. It's not bad to have a few DB to take out DDs with but you're right.. With a strike package I can hover around 2k exp. With fighter spec I am around 1k. :/

Had a nice match in the udaloi with sirmonkey and swagger, we we actually looking fairly doomed in this one early. Not a ton of damage for 5 kills, but you take what you can get I suppose.

that match legit gave me cancer and aids.. i really want to know how much that mogami player paid for his account, there is no way he grinded all the way up to a mogami on his own playing like that.
 
So much hate for my Iowa. got it again, upgraded.....

stealth firing Zao at 19km takes me from 79,000hp to zero in 60 seconds with HE. The fucking thing hits as hard as a yamato.
 
It's one of the few cruisers left with anything. The nerf has killed just about everything else.

Cruisers are a waste of my time now, and they are no longer any fun at all to drive. Even the murmansk feels like a POS now.

Luckily I'm having fun in the Fletcher, NC and, somewhat, the Tirpitz.

given all the nerfs had zero effect on any of the cruisers i use the nerf didn't really change anything. has it made T1-5 harder? sure but it also gets people ready for the pain of T6-10 where guess what all the cruisers have slower turning guns other than the cleveland and mogami which was never the intention of the 155's being better than the 203mm guns. was the change the incorrect way of doing it? yes and no, but in the end they got the result they wanted. did a couple ships get nerfed into the ground because of it? yes. is it fixable? yes. will it be fixed? most likely.

and last but not least, the murmansk needed to be nerfed into the god damn ground and i'm happy it finally happened, screw that ship.
 
Anyone having trouble getting won flags?

I got Dev Strike and First Strike in the Shima, and was awarded 5 flags Zulu and 5 of something else. Showed it right there on the screen.

Went to attach them and.... nothing.

Now that I think about it, I haven't had a flag show up for use in over a week that I can remember.

nope i've been getting my flags as far as i can tell. it's possible you had 5 zulu flags checked on 5 ships so it auto filled it when you got them. in which case it shows up as none being available.
 
The Ranger gives you a 2 fighter 2 DB load out, which is pretty decent at providing AS while resetting caps. The Lex gives access to upgraded bombers which upgrades you from 500lb to 1000lb bombs.

Clevelands have good AA, but I find them very susceptible to DB hits. Starting with the Ranger you actually have enough planes in reserve that it doesn't hurt too bad to lose a squadron in an attempt to smoke a clev, imo.

I am only 30k from 15 pt captain on my Lexi. Then I'll have 8 bombs to drop per a squadron. Bwuahahaha.

You guys had me thinking about this - I usually do quite well with over 100k dmg, a lot against DDs, but not sure if I ever had fun in her.


Also they may have buffed what plane exp is worth. I had 23 planes downed in my Atlanta and only did 2.3k dmg and still got 1,100ish base exp. I was surprised. T9 game may have helped. I was hanging around a NC IIRC, we decimated (Lexi) groups before they could even get to her.

Nice. With the Lexi strike I usually send the first wave at DDs, second wave at CVs. Of course if I see the enemy CV is a strike carrier and there's an opening I might strike him. People usually watch for that though and if you do it on the second wave everyone gets bored or engrossed in the battle and don't seem to notice you as much. I also setup my captain/Lexi for AA. It has 100AA but is technically over...

Also I send in a wave or two and light him on fire (depending on AA) then we he repairs I send in the rest. I think that is pretty standard. The same nonsense is effective on DDs as well. Giving the choice of flooding/burning now and/or later. :)

My initial 6 month premium membership expires in a few days. I'm almost where I want to be as far as ships are concerned, and I'm not sure the 1.5x means as much to me as it used to.

Do they offer renewal discounts if you let it expire? Sometimes the best way to do it and get the best deal :)

Maybe I'll just go for one more quarter instead of a full half year. By then I think I'll be where I want to be. I want:

1. Good cruiser, BB and Destroyer coverage at T4-6. I have that covered except for the BB (Murmansk, Omaha and KamiKazi).
2. Good cruiser, BB and Destroyer coverage at T9-T10. I have that mostly covered (North Carolina soon to be Iowa, Shima, Fletcher. Not sure what to do on cruiser. Still at Pop-Top-Cola on US Cruiser and I HATE the damn thing).
3. Some Premium ships just for fun and XP building. Have the Tirpits, Murmansk, KamiKaze and a couple of lower-end freebies or cheapies that, frankly, don't amount to much.

I will eventually upgrade the Fletcher to the Gearing, but not via free XP. I'm fairly well done with that at the US destroyer level. It can earn it's own way from this point. It's only 236,000 XP LOL.

All free XP will be used to upgrade the US Battleship line at this point. Since the Smurf, I maintain the Omaha and Murmansk out of necessity now, nothing more. I pretty much HATE cruiser play now. Which I suspect was their objective.

I have spent an embarrassing amount of money on this game so far, and to get me spending any more real money at this point I think they need to move onward from WW2. Spruance Class Destroyers, newer class cruisers, etc... Submarines would definitely get my wallet open :)

The game needs some architectural changes too. Maybe the ability to actually FLY bombers and torp planes. That would be cool. And my #1 desire for surface ships? Split Telegraphs. Individual shaft control is SO important in battle that I can't believe we don't already have it, and adding it should be elementary.

If they ever upgrade the game to pay proper money for downing aircraft, and give better flexibility in choosing carrier load-out, I may buy another carrier and run it up the flag pole. Not real interested the way they are right now.

There's no renewal discounts I've ever seen. But, since your account is unified for premium time across all the Wargaming games, you can buy time from any of the other premium shops and it will apply to your Warships account. Tanks usually has discounts around some of the major holidays for premium time. It's usually only about 15% off 6 or 12 months if memory serves.
 
I can relate to Larry. I have 90% of the ships I want and put enough money into this game. Time to coast for a while and enjoy what I have. I'd like to get to rank 1 next season so I have been playing my Atlanta/Benson captain a lot (enjoy both those ships) and I need to start playing my Lexington captain more. I figure a Lexi would be fun to bring into ranked matches and break up the grind with the Benson.

I need that pirate flag.

The problem with getting level 1 in ranked is that it's SO not in your control :(

There should be a mandatory 1 week.. screw that, PERMA ban for taking in a carrier AFK more than once in a week. One allowance given for network issues. This is becoming a phenomena I just don't understand.

Like driving backwards. WTF ?

LOL Every time I get one more point, I go woohoo!!! Then I look at the number I have to reach before getting the next one. OMG !!!

I wouldn't mind if this was eased up a bit :)

I have so many out of work captains. I'd love it if they would allow a one-time (per year, let's say) consolidation of captains points for a fee. I'd buy that for a dollar !!!
