World of Warships Enters Open Beta!

i'd say you do worse mostly because premium ships have a higher weight in match making i feel. e.g. enemy team gets 1 atlanta, other team gets 2 T7's vs the team with the atlanta.

No, not with premium ships but with premium time active. There are a lot of tin foil hat threads associated with it.

Also, just because I feel like everyone should feel my pain, here are my ranked results this evening:

Rank 3.25. For fuck's sake I just want this to be over already.

yeah i'm just going by what i've seen.. theres been a lot of times i'll see teams stacked with murmansk's while the other team is all T6+ cruisers, same with the 1 atlanta vs multiple tier 7's.. i dunno how it's actually weighted but just seems theres something odd with how it pairs up premium vs non premium. did have one game though where the enemy team had 5 atlanta's while my whole team was T5/6 except me in a Yorck so who the hell knows. everyone cried about it til i two shot 2 of the atlanta's in my yorck, and a kongo one shot another from 18km, lol.

yeah you're game history looks pretty similar to how mine goes, nice win streak crappy lose streak right after then kinda goes back and forth after that but i rarely play the same ship back to back.. usually cycle between my cruisers then my BB then go to DD's so i can forget i wasted 15+ minutes in a ship going 20kts.

Man, this thread is so popular, I'm REALLY tempted to try it out.

Question, how many of you guys pay vs earn credits in-game or whatever?

I have ZERO interest in a pay-to-win situation.

There is no pay to win, but that doesn't mean you won't spend money.

You can play it forever and not spend a dime. But you'll find your self doing purchases to exchange earned free XP, buy premium so you can go up the ship lines quicker, and even buy premium ships.

Just keep in mind, upgrading to higher tier ships does not make you more likely to win. You simply get put into battles of the same class of ships (or thereabouts) so you don't really get a tactical advantage. You just move up to bigger, badder, louder ships to play.

I have spent more money on it than I care to admit :)

I bought the Atlanta early on and sold it the first time I needed money. That was one frustrating damn ship.

Sadly the Atago I bought ain't much better. I think Seals chew on the hull in retaliation of my T1 Hermelin success :)

My god, the Kiev is pretty badass. Also, my team sucked pretty hard, which helps me get moar points!

As the others have said, it's not pay to win. It's pay to advance quicker, but only if you want to. There is a lot of fun to be had in the first few tiers, especially at the T3 St Louis, which you can get to in just an hour or so of playtime (if I recall correctly, maybe a couple hours).

I've bought a premium ship murmansk, and the gold currency.

If you do play, make sure you find a sign up code somewhere, I know reddit has one, that gives you a few days of premium time, an extra ship and some gold right off the start.

The game is built to make you want to move up, which gets harder to do as you advance, because they will put crappy ships in the line, which paying players will use currency to move past. In my case it was going past the T6 russian DD ognevoi, which was just a deathtrap for me.

I think in general, I've found a pretty happy playing spot, with T5 ships Nicholas, murmansk, gnevny & minekaze, and T7 kiev. I don't see myself advancing much from here. Carriers and battleships don't interest me much, 90% of my play now is destroyers.

I do keep a few low tier ships also, like the T3 St louis, and the T2 dresden, which can be fun to go back and play beserker mode.

If you DO want to try it out, I have an invite code for 7 days of premium and 1k of doubloons, which is considered the best invite code out there. Just ask me for it in a PM.

As for the pay to win, this game is now modeled that way ATM. It's pay to advance faster and make more cash. You only have issues with cash when you hit tier 8.

As for the premium ships, the only overpowered ship they have for sale is the Murmansk, which is slightly better than the upgraded Omaha. The Omaha and the Murmansk is same ship, but had Stalin's hand at adjusting the stats.

It's quickly becoming a favorite for me, although I've only played 12-15 matches in it. Couple of times I've tried to play it as a knife fighter destroyer, and that's where I die. If I stay further from the caps in open water, but still close enough to support, I live and usually the team wins. It's fast, but the rudder is slowish, so torp dodging isn't great.

That ship seems to infuriate people though, because if you succeed in dragging them out by themselves (or find them out by themselves), it's just raining HE spam from 10-12k and they can't hit me. Had a pensacola last night chase me for a couple of blocks, never hitting me, just taking fire from my aft turret. He got so focused on me, I dragged him back to another cap where a yorck was waiting, the pepsi ends up broadside to the yorck, he has to turn his turrets to the yorck, I just turn to the far side and just slam his defenseless side with AP from 6km.

I'm sure people will adapt to it, but some don't seem to realize right now, especially with the speed boost flag, that I can serpentine to fire and avoid fire just as fast as their straight line top speed, or even a bit faster. With flag & boost, it does 48 knots..lol.

The Murmansk is definitely worth buying in my opinion - it's pretty cheap, is consistently a lot of fun, and it makes pretty good credits in game.

Yeah, it's a good ship. And if people are feeling daring, you can find bonus codes online for it, 7 day premium, port slot & 1000 gold for 7-15 bucks at kinguin. I wish I would have looked for those before buying it retail..

Yeah - I think the only way to have an advantage is to take a high end captain and shove him on a low end ship. Some flags help too... unfortunately I haven't seen them for sale.

I don't care for the German cruisers, but I keep playing because I figure I could take the captain and put him a German BB eventually. :) Ect.

Dam Business, that SUCKS. One of the main reasons why I haven't done ranked battles since reaching ranked 10.

Also, not sure if I posted this, but here is a post game SS of me and Dayaks tearing it up in tier 5.

Since Dayaks was talking about that in chat during that game, I'll let him explain that comment :D.

The T1 Hermelin and Orlan are keepers too. They are wonderful little pop guns and one they are worked to gold status (I forget the name right now) they can be great free XP farmers. To actually use free XP you have to convert it first, which costs Dablooms. My biggest expense in the game so far, by a wide margins, has been the purchase of Dablooms to convert free XP so it can be used to buy higher tier ships. Research them, actually. You pay full r the actual ships using silver you earn in game (or can buy)

I think I've gotten 3 confederate flags from the dresden in the past week or so, which is a nice way to farm those +50% xp flags. Sure it's beating up on newbies, but those flags are valuable. Wish there was an easy way like that to get the speed boost flag. Double kills are hard to come by.

I think I mentioned this before, have you tried bringing a T7 ship to your team? If you can be the weakest ship on your team, your chances of winning might go up if the guy that comes in a T8 in your place can pull his weight.

no shit, I hate that view. Especially on ships that are quartering to or away from you, I might as well be blindfolded.

yeah it can be a bitch at times.. i pretty much spent a week where all i did was launch the plane and use it to fire on anything to force myself to learn the view, it's helped but theres just some ships i can't track for the life of me(mostly german ships because they are so much faster then all the others) but it's fun trying when i have nothing else to shoot at.

It's a bit like tossing watermelons out of a hot air balloon :)

I imagine it can mess with people that are afraid of heights too (I'm not, but I'm also smart enough to avoid them :))

for anything 14-15 out I prefer that view, for anything 10k or under I hate it, I wish you could recall the plane :X

Only Tier 7 that I have is the Atlanta but there's no way in hell I'm bringing that to a Ranked match, lol.

Well, it IS a big to citadel an Atlanta in a BB right now. So many dam overpens. Only thing I can think of that the Atlanta has going for it.

I think they need to add the ability to make clans. I was in a Clan in World of Tanks on voice chat and the team work was much better and more fun. Pugging it up with a friend or two is ok but too many YOLOs and not enough team work makes it get frustrating fast.

A new kind of cheese.

Atlanta Overpen. Slightly tart with a dash of wtf.

Been saying that since the day I started in August. This thing really needs voice comms.

I turn off voice in almost every game. Chat is easy to ignore but voices? Nah man, nah.

agree as long as theres an option to turn it off or individually mute people i'm fine with it. or at the least have it for ranked since most people will at least take ranked more seriously then random battles.

Pretty much this. A free to play game does not have the best community. What makes you think that you want to hear their vocal opinion? Not me.

*edit*

Also around ready to park the Tirpitz and not play her until there is another update to MM. 4 out of 5 games I play on her, I get put into tier 10 games, with half of those games being 6 vs 6 or 8 vs 8. I rage quit most of those games.

This kiev thing, I kind of like it. It's only 18 battles, but a 72% win rate right now. I jumped back into ranked since I think I'm starting to get the hang of it and hopefully won't be a burden on my team. Middle of the leaderboard on all 3, not a ton of damage, but harass/ start fires on the bb's and try to keep the red DD's too busy to torp (accurately anyway). Saw a couple of atlanta's, those don't scare the big guys, but they can lay down so much fire I've found myself steering away from wherever they are at.

bad round to be a battleship... we won :p I almost took out the Montana single handedly, a couple of torps finished him off , eventually I burned to death.

ended up being a pretty good night in kiev. 9 straight (first 2 were random, all the rest ranked), and should have been 10, we had that game won, and our myoko decides to become a torp-ing IJN destroyer and hid around the corner from the action with 5 minutes left. There was an agami right in his sights @7km with 1000 hp left that would have nearly clinched by itself. Christ that was infuriating. We're all yelling at him in chat to shoot, and he wasn't alone, the amagi was engaged with our amagi, it was a turkey shoot. Instead he turns away to launch torps. Enemy amagi proceeds to kill ours, offsets our points advantage, we lose.

Wow, that is a lot of dildos for sure, lol.

Yeah, I wanted it to be a Merry Christmas. Forgot I told Chibe that... I must have been drinking. The good ones are expensive! Honesty I just told my friend who sells them "here's $400 and make me a basket." She knows what she's doing, I have no idea. :).

On topic, put Chibe in a Murmansk and he slaughters everything. Good chance you're going to win the match.

The Atlanta has a tiny profile. I think if you get fired upon you need to turn her either towards or away. Also gets it's guns knocked out like crazy... It's tempting to buy one but the price is steep. I'd also have to put my BB captain in her for the advanced fire training skill because the range is terrible on that ship.

Ok, so I built up 83K in Free XP with the Cleveland over the weekend, plus whatever I have saved up in dedicated XP for each ship.

What should I spend it on?

Here's my T5 and above list:

vIiCrEe.png

I don't do carriers.

I like fast, but not crazy about destroyers. I like quick recycle time on the guns, and I like them to move about as quick as possible. I could give a shit less about torpedo's because, well, I tend to get myself into trouble with them :) I'm trying to get better!

Battleships are ok, but I have a habit of falling asleep at the wheel. No, really. I do...

I got NO beef selling the Atago if I need the money. I just won't sell it to a friend or family member. I wouldn't do that to them.
