Fallout 4

I also get sub-par load times on my SSD...actually, sometimes it will be quick and other times it'll take like 30+ seconds, even when loading the same save. It's odd.

Yeah, mine on my MX100 SSD take a while as well. On initial load, I usually get through a solid two of those messages before it's loaded. I ran some speed tests on my SSD, too, and I'm getting better performance than what reviewers were getting on the drive, so it's not an issue with the performance of the drive.

...500GB modern raptor drive.

Eh, that's debatable.

Gotta get away from the spinner for your games, man. As cheap as SSDs have gotten, there's no good reason to have your games on a spinner any more.

Indeed. That 500GB 10,000 RPM VelociRaptor that does 150MB/s reads costs the same amount as a 512GB Samsung 850 Pro that is nearly 4 times as fast.

I was just trying to point out it wasn't a first gen 300GB unit. This is one of the latest versions of the drive. I got a good deal on a few of them, which at the time was no contest on purchasing over an SSD. The point being is that while it is a spinning drive, it is not a slow spinning drive. I don't have load issues in any other game. I think there is just something about the loading on certain systems...

i bet that is all the people who returned it after seeing how crappy the plastic is. I have 2 right now and thinking of returning as well if i can't sell them

Lol, i remember a couple of delusional people trying to flip theirs for $300 or more in the For Sale part of the forums

There are a lot on eBay showing as sold at 400 or 500 dollars plus, back in September and October.

Does anyone know, with a physical edition do you actually have to have the DVD to install, or if I bought one could I just give a code to someone and they can activate via Steam without having to mail them the box/dvd/etc? I assume it works this way, but don't know for sure.

I don't have this problem at all with my load times. I moved my entire Steam library from a Samsung spinner to a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro. Now, the level load times are never higher than the 10 second range, no matter what point in the game. On the spinner, they were easily 30+ seconds, sometimes almost taking a minute.

I really shouldn't be bitching about load times, though. It could be a lot worse. I watched a stream of someone playing the PS4 version, and you would literally have enough time to use the toilet and grab a snack before the game finishes loading. I swear one of the quicksaves he loaded took about 4 minutes.

Jetpacks are great, all you masochists who say you don't/won't wear power armor are missing out! Here's hoping for some mod to replace mole rats with Goombas so I can re-enact super mario bros.

I played for a few hours last night then for kicks before going to bed I messed around with the scale setting and had a Deathclaw doing his best Godzilla impersonation and then Cait doing her own "Attack of the 50ft Woman" bit.

So much potential for fun with this game. :D

MX100 here as well...I might try switching it over to a Samsung 850 Evo I got recently.

On that note as well, does anyone else get massive stutter / cursor lag when starting up the game for the first time, and sometimes when in the menus? It's not that bad and it clears up after awhile but it's like a hard, locking stutter.

It's creepy AF when you get in an elevator and start going up and Valentine materializes in front of you.

If you find the answer for this I realllllly want to know. I am having this same problem with my setup of 780 SLI on a 1440 21:9 screen. I have no clue what causes it, it was fine in the initial starting sequence, then when I made a few changes to get it to run fullscreen my character looked like shit, very similar if not identical to yours. It is only my character that looks like shit too, all other NPC's look fine. I resorted to wearing a gas mask....

With some testing, involving loading the game, quiting and changing the settings numerous times, here is what I have found worked, and don't ask...

Your Texture quality must be at least high. When you launch the game, and you notice your character's model bleached, quit the game, and change your windowed borderless settings (if it was off before, turn it on, if it was on before, turn it off).

That's what worked for me on both swift and BenQ. I have no idea why it works, but it works, most of the time.

I plaied three hours since the start of the game and I get the atomic armor with the machine gun o_O
Atomic Armor??
Enjoy it while the fuel cell lasts. :D
I've seen a lot of you guys post things about resource scarcity in one form or another. I noticed early in the game that whatever weapon I used, that's the ammo I started to find more frequently. In the late game I noticed it skew more towards laser ammo but it still held true for the most part. Same for the fusion cores, I tried to use the armor sparingly but later in the game I started using it more and began finding fusion cores a lot more. I've now got like 58 cores so I'm sittin' pretty.

Oh later on the cores are easy to get, but early on, I used that first set of armor sparingly and was glad I did.

Not sure how the ammo/cores scale with difficulty, so that may matter as well for some people.

At this point, I've got more ammo then a small country should have and there's no shortage of more to get every time I go out to hunt.

Still haven't gotten into the "build your own fortress" mentality yet, but I'm hoping to soon. ;)

Yeah, ammo is rough early and fusion cores are gold, but when you get to certain areas you just start finding 3 of them in a random box, makes no sense. Not that I'm complaining exactly. I need to just finish the game (main storyline) while I still care at all -- I'm losing interest, and know from experience that with this kind of thing it's either do it now, or never get it done. Sucks that it feels like such a slog.

I believe fusion cores count as ammo so if you take the perk that nets you more ammo, you'll find fusion cores plentiful. I've never take the power armor off and never been low on fusion cores.

why are adhesive and aluminum so popular?

You want to build something you have to hold it together.

3 choices, tying it together with rope, gluing it together, using fasteners like nails or screws or staples

In a post apocalyptic world you can't count on Office Depot still stocking staples, or Home Depot still getting regular shipments of screws or nails. Inventing and then figuring out how to mass machines screws and nails were huge manufacturing achievements BTW.

but what can you do with them that makes it worth trying to hord/find?

Adhesive is used in crafting equipment quite a bit. Weapons, armor, power armor modifications usually require adhesive. However as someone in this thread very nicely pointed out to me, you can make vegetable starch which then can be used as adhesive, so really you don't need to horde it at all.

Aluminum, I don't know everything it is used for but as a power armor junkie I need it to maintain the armor. That being said I have never run out of aluminum but I can see how people could quite easily.

Power armor junkie reporting in. Aluminum is the most used, least found item for me. I've got tons of everything else. I wonder if the fish factory respawns it... need to check.

I'm so out of the hardware loop. To play this game decently at 4K what minimum graphics card is recommended? Currently I have a 2600k processor and I believe a 680gtx. Both stock clocked. I do NOT have a 4K monitor yet. I'm gaming on a dell 3007 currently. Looking to upgrade.

Edit. I don't plan on upgrading my processor. To time consuming.

My overclocked 980ti and 4790K struggle to maintain 60FPS in some areas of the game where there is lots on the screen (basically any towns). If there is a performance fix at some point, then a 980ti/Titan X might cut it for 4K, but as it is now you would want a pair of either. You would also want that CPU overclocked and to be running very fast RAM, as fast as your CPU can push it.

EDIT: I play at 3440x1440

Guess I'm not getting into 4K. Ha.

980TI SLI......not exactly mainstream for most pc's, and I think his point was for the games looks (which are just not comparable to GTA V/Witcher 3 in terms of quality of graphics) it takes way too much power to run.

I understood exactly what he meant in his post. My retort was to specify that with texture mods, and the game maxed out with the newest Nvidia drivers, the game is running very well. And, I also play both GTA.TW3, and I think FO4 looks comparable. TW3 does tax my system though a little more especially using hairworks, and GTA can really eat of VRAM, if you let it and max out the settings and draw distance. I was defending FO4 by saying it is better optimized now for SLI with the latest patches and Nvidia driver......

Currently working on my armor display and home in Sanctuary. Main outer house is complete with the exception of a few lights. Interior is a work in-progress.

I've probably spent a solid two hours getting this together. A good portion of the time spent was getting the initial floor block aligned with the existing house foundation. After that was done the remainder went fairly quickly.

Entire bottom floor will be armor display with various storage containers. Grass coming up through the floor will be fixed shortly. I went with alternate colored floor blocks to give the place a bit of character. Did the same with the upstairs but swapped white/grey block positions.

Bathroom area. I'm considering putting in his/her sinks and toilets. Just because I can. :p

Kitchen/laundry area. I'll be swapping the washer/dryer/counter position with the kitchen counters on the right to give the area a bit more balance.

Living, dining and game room.

Bedroom and storage room for frequently used armors and weapons.

btw, if armor repair stations are too close to a wall or whatnot, it won't let you work on the armor. All it will do is pause for a few seconds in 3rd person view like it is going to then return back to your first/third person view.
