Nice game there Viper. Hate when you have team mates that don't pull even half of your weight.

Just got out of a game with my NC that I one shotted a damaged farragut with a 8k AP salvo. 20 secs later and at 2k HP, I rammed another NC that 46k HP.

Amen! IT was a 7 v 7 match to begin with, no carriers, no destroyers, good old slug fest :)

oh and CHOO CHOO, that game gave me enough xp for the Montana! Since I'm not going to sell the Iowa, it will be a while before I Can actually buy it :p Still need to buy a Farragut,Aoba, Nurnberg and upgrades for all of them.

AP does work, but HE is more effective against DDs. AP on DDs overpen all the time, so 10% damage done. Since the NC does 13100 max damage with AP, thats 1310 for an overpen. Take that 1310 times it by 6, that's 7860 from the front turrets. So yea, if your a DD, don't get hit by a BB.

You know, I've been wreaking havoc on Destroyers with AP, even though that's not supposed to work.

On smaller guns, up to about 6 inches, you can use AP in certain situations (like long range and/or angled) since you can get penetrations and do 1/3rd max damage (and AP always has higher max damage than HE, if only by a bit on some guns).

But on anything over 8 inches, you're all but guaranteed to over-penetrate because AP shells require a certain minimum armor thickness to even light the fuse (And the ~15mm destroyers get isn't it). So even with the smaller damage potential HE wins out because you're doing 1/3rd damage instead of 1/10th.

Now, if a destroyer just pops up in front of you, the best thing to shoot is whatever you have loaded (but then switch to HE in most cases).

yep, because 9 x 1350 can kill most Japanese destroyers :)

biggest mistake ever, lol.. :p japanese BB lines fun as hell but no two play the same so it can take a bit to get use to each tier BB. took me for ever to get use the nagato after using the fuso.

Nexr thing to buy after the Iowa!! I managed to keep my Iowa =] stole the captain from my Cleveland .

You Only Live Once

Taking a DD straight into the enemy line at the start of the game for example. I try to avoid that, although sometimes if I can get a BB later in the game out by himself when I can get a nose-to-nose situation, I'll yolo in on him for a <1km torp run. I'd guess that around 75% of the time, I come away bruised with a BB on the ocean floor.
 
Or not working with the team, doing your own thing, since in ranked, you're going to run into a group, going off on your own is almost certain death, and a big waste.

Getting close to my level 4 commander skill in the nicholas, in the IJN dd it's easy to pick last stand, the only one that makes sense. With the USN, it's tough, AFT and demolition both have offensive appeal, and last stand is nice, but I think it'd be the 3rd choice for offense. If I'm in repair cooldown and lose the engine or rudder, I'm probably getting slammed anyway.

So AFT or demo?

I have been thinking the same thing, if you lose your engine your toast, but how about rudder :)?

@#$@$# 2 crappy rounds on the Montana & Iowa, same CV on our team both times, didn't help at all, just went for kills on his own, no spotting of their 2 T10 DDS, or even when I had their CV 10km away from me, he wouldn't send any fighters to help defend.

Oh my god. 190k damage loss followed by a win where I charged a few DDs and capped the second zone to secure the win by points with only 6 seconds remaining, lol.

How many more rounds could I land with calm shots?

Late in a game where BB's are by themselves on occasion, could just run circles around him spamming HE without him ever seeing me.

In Ranked Battles:

Fault Line map turned off for battles of Rank 10 and higher
Ocean map is now only available for battles of Rank 10 and higher
The likelihood of dropping-out of the Ocean map has been halved
In Random Battles:

The chance of getting Zone mode on the Trap and Islands of Ice maps, for high-tier battles, has been halved
System changes:

Resets for in-game tasks will now happen in regards to a specific region. For EU this will be set for 03:00 UTC. Users who enter the game on EU, NA and ASIA realms after this change is applied may notice the following artefacts during the first 24 hours after the changes are applied:

Users will get a chance to complete Daily Quests twice during the first 24 hours
Users will get a chance to receive the First Win bonus twice during the first 24 hours
The amount of complaints and compliments that can be given by a player will reroll twice during the first 24 hours, which means the players will get a chance to complain and appraise twice as much during the first 24 hours
Other changes:

By popular demand, the ability to turn on/off inverting mouse control on the vertical axis has been added to the settings (by default, inverting is off)
Fixed an error leading to the ships’ characteristics not being calculated at the camouflage set for visibility. Now the recalculated characteristics are displayed
Fixed an error causing the smoke effects from ships´ funnels, and some other effects to disappear

I guess that is a good point :) what is your captain setup like for your DD? Do you mind posting it?
 
sure, images below. For Nicholas I could have that level 4 skill now if I reshuffled and got rid of BFT, it shoots fast enough I probably don't need it.

For modules, minekaze: Torp Mod 1, Torp Mod 2 & Propulsion Mod 1
Nicholas: Main Battery #1, Accuracy/Gun Fire Control Mod 1, Propulsion Mod 1
Gnevny: Main Battery #1, Accuracy/Gun Fire Control Mod 1 (this should probably be moved to Main Battery Mod 2 to improve traverse speed at the expense of reload time, it's glacial on this thing), Propulsion Mod 1

No, this would be for nicholas, not the minekaze. I'd happily ditch the minekaze guns if they would give me another 2 knots of speed and/or another torp tube.
 
Disappointed that Fault Line has been removed for Rank 10+ but they gave me a reason to get back to some random battles with that piece of shit Zone mode being reduced as well.

Put together another Ranked vid to show you just how much I love the Amagi and when teams work together, lol. Moral of the story: if someone's attempting to commit to teamwork with you then hold onto them like the love of your life. It's the best way to not only advance in Ranked but to enjoy it as well, win or lose.

speaking of the zone mode.. when i saw the patch note i was all excited, first 2 matches of the day? friggin Zone mode on the Trap map.. GGGOODFhljkdfhgjk;hdfgkjhfgkjhdf

yeah...

so i'm now working on my USN DD line again.. haven't touched them since early CBT. but holy balls i forgot just how stupidly strong the Nicolas is for tier 4/5 matches.. first game with a retraining captain i one shot 2 minekazes (both were magazine racked) then torp'd an isokaze trying to sneak around the island behind me and put a full rack of torps into 2 wyomings. but for my last kill in the game i spent 5 minutes solo burning down a NY that tried his heart out to kill me but couldn't do it. it was kinda refreshing after that painful grind with the clemson even though i could of just out right skipped it but that's not my style.

My goal with every IJN Destroyer run is to do it without ever touching the guns. I might break them out if a target is one hit away from destruction, such as right after a big torpedo hit.

Unless I ground myself. Then all bets are off :)

Throwing down more Ranked matches and gaining some momentum. At the end of this video I was at Rank 7.5 and now one win away from getting to Rank 5 after last night. Despite 4 matches below 100k damage the teams were solid and managed to pull out some pretty close wins.

PSA: Stop bringing Atlantas to Ranked please.

Also, I played some Random Battles last night for the first time in a while with DigitalViper and man, I hope Ranked seasons are more frequent. Random Battles are just a clusterfuck of impotence and idiocy. I can't believe Ranked feels more composed, lol

So... Does this mean the Map is an endless world ?

Yeah, it's a fun ship, especially in a knife fight with other DD's. IJN stands virtually no chance since their guns don't move at all, and the izyslav/gnenvy stands little chance because their guns move at a snails pace and can't keep up in turns. So barring a lucky torp spread or a barrage of focus fire from their team, I feel like 8/10 times I'm coming away with the win.

Also, after a fun match in the nurnberg, I totally forgot I had AP one while firing at a New Mexico, the reason I forgot, is that I was doing about 3-4k damage per salvo! wtf!! those german guns.... :)

the fubuki's hit or miss but the biggest problem like all other IJN DD's if some one drops a pin on the deck it loses it's guns..

yeah the nurnbergs a friggin beast.. also german cruisers have a much higher chance of fire. so what i tend to do is 2-3 volleys of HE on a BB get 2-3 fires going then rain down AP. enjoy it while you can though because the yorck is the exact opposite of what the nurnberg is, lol. but the 12% chance of fire is the only thing that keeps the yorck relevant.


has anyone else noticed match making being really weird lately? the last 2 days since the patch i've been getting put into T5 matches with my nagato and my yorck. which sucks because it's impossible to get XP since shooting/killing T5 ships in a T7 nets to almost nothing.

That's still the normal range for matches but it might be happening more often since a lot are playing ranked.
 
I've seen a few more St Louis in T5/6 matches lately. And a poor dresden in a division in a 5/6.

yeah before the patch it was normal to see maybe 1 T5 cruiser and a T5 BB but now it's mostly T5 maybe 1 T7 cruiser my T7 BB and then 2 or 3 T5 BB's and this is on both teams. just seems weird like the MM system was reset to pre 5.1 patch.
 
Man, the Kongos guns are so inaccurate!!! though I'm comparing to the Iowa/Montana since that's where I am now, but damn it's fast :) and has some decent armor, best round so far is about 98k damage, I almost always end up being last alive on my team in losing games (seal clubbing ftw)

gives you 2 extra points on your commander

be careful, pick your captain wisely :) I would have loved to have that one my Iowa or Montana or even fubuki
