Samsung Galaxy S6

1. Not seeing a Camera bump, which MAY be the reason for using a smaller sensor.

2. Lack of pre-loaded apps, they state it has Galaxy apps which is actually the bulk of whats on my Note 3. The good thing with these apps are they don't run on start up.

3. If this has Integrated One drive I won't have much of a reason to go MS, although I think this is just the Android One Drive app.

S Voice?!? Now why is that pre-installed when Google Search/Now doesn't have to be?

S Voice?!? Now why is that pre-installed when Google Search/Now doesn't have to be?

This is just a guess but Google Search/Google Now only has access to Google Apps where S Voice can access all subsystems and data types.

For example, Google Search can't search inside Samsung's scrapbook.

That would only make sense if scrapbook is also pre-installed.

I don't know what else they want to use with it, I was only giving a current example.

Google voice services are still limited when compared to Siri and Cortana.

It's not limiting if you use Giggle services for everything...

And here may be the first leak. Feast your eyes. And still looks awful...

It looks like the iPhone 6. Also what are the holes at the front?

Anyway a leak is a leak... it's probably a prototype or fake.

We'll believe it when we see it.

I'd like to think it's fake but every "fake" leak in the past couple years turns out being accurate. Hoping the curve looks different.

I would be surprised if Samsung released a phone that looked that similar to the iPhone 6.

Except many people use other services that are not Google specific, considering Google specific stuff sucks outside of maps.

And that doesn't look anything like the iPhone....

outside of maps? drive, keep, reminder, maps, translater, Gmail... Google Now with the predictive news, notes, reminders, shopping, bills, etc etc

So anyone know what those holes in front of the supposed SGS6 in the leaked photos are for?

The pictures look like stickers blocking something close to the four corners of the front panel.

I'd sooner guess they're just cutouts in the otherwise matte under-glass overlay that ping a device as being a test-batch rather than full production.

This. If you don't like the Google services, why are you even interested in Android?

Only way I would get an S6 would have to tick these three boxes in this order;

- #1 = Battery life. ( On par with the OnePlus One, any less and this phone is useless IMO )
- #2 = Unlocked bootloader. ( Root for Xposed, and custom ROM's )
- #3 = Touchwiz slimmed down ( Let's see a Motorola style Touchwiz, a very minimal skin over stock Android, or at least a Sense smaller RAM size UI )

One poster said the new Galaxy S6 hardware and screen will be more efficient, and said the S6 will have the same battery life as an S5 with a 4,000mAh extended battery. I will believe that when I see it.

Unless you get the S6 from T-Mo, Sprint, or unlocked, I highly doubt you're gonna be able to unlock the bootloader or even root it for a few months until an exploit is found like the S5 was. Same deal for the Note 4 so far I think, not sure if there's even root available for it on Verizon/AT&T.

VZW Note 3 has never been bootloader unlocked, its bounty is still out. I doubt the Note 4 on VZW will ever be either based on that alone. And you are correct, the both the Verizon and ATT Note 4 handsets are not even rooted or bootloader unlocked yet. Currently the bounty is ~$7,000USD per device.

Course if Samsung didn't insist on carrier-specific SKU idiocy, they'd save a ton of money...AND...save all of us a lot of headaches.

Yeah, it's garbage. I don't need an unlocked bootloader, but I do need root at least for Xposed. If I can't root my phone, then that's an automatic deal breaker for me. I'm on Verizon too, but fortunately I'm already set on the M9 and am hoping there's an exploit found on it soon after launch like there was for my M8. I was able to unlock the bootloader on it when I got it at launch.

Yea not a fan of Xposed and the security gaping holes it requires (SELinux permissive for starters)....but I have yet to find a stock ROM ever good enough for me. Stock Lollipop on Nexuses is pretty damn close, but I want root.

Catch with the Nexus devices being that since AOSP is deigned to work on them (Nexus devices), it just works with minimal bugs if done well (Slim builds are darn stable). Whereas all the OEM lockdown shit is why AOSP is hamstrung in terms of bug-free-ness on Samsung. I just got done prepping my Note 2 L900 to be passed on to a luddite-family member. Thought I'd load Lollipop on it and same them the trouble later, that went out the window once I remembered upon reading the standard bugs listings for running AOSP on Samsung handsets....So I resorted to de-crapified 4.4.2 Touchwiz

Too bad too. Seems on 4.4.2 that Samsung stripped out the dialer reverse-lookup code on L900. Which is one of the really handy things in 4.4.x

Latest rumor is that Samsung is debloating the S6. Removing most of their proprietary bullshit apps and replacing them with a simple suite of Microsoft apps, OneNote, Office, Skype. Could be interesting.

Never on Verizon though. Even if hell freezes over. Guaranteed to get the worst version and screw it up even more.

The carriers insist on it. US carriers == Satan.

Even Nexus devices and Google arent immune.

Only VZW and ATT.

But Google and Nexus mostly are. Hasn't been carrier specific SKU idiocy, or nonrootable devices, or locked bootloaders in at least 2 generations of Nexus...and even then that was only VZW IIRC.

Samsung is big enough now they could put their foot down and say no. They choose not to.

Only news that matters, is the bootloader unlocked ? And is Touchwiz finally stripped down to half its RAM size and as fast smooth as stock AOSP Amdroid ?

If not then F off Scamsuck

Why are phone companies opposed to giving out phones with an unlocked bootloader? They charge absurd prices, and if anyone goes over their data because they're doing something with an unlocked bootloader they could charge even more fees.

Sounds like a win win. But alas, greed runs the United States. We don't have a free market anymore, we have a Greed Market.

If the user is not beholden to the carrier for updates, they can get new features without buying a new device. The carriers would much rather you buy a new phone with Lollipop than update your old phone to run Lollipop.

There. Fixed that for you. :D

While I agree, I would like a much improved touchwiz, my days of caring about unlocked boatloaders are long behind me. Phones have come along a long ways since then.

So screen protectors...how the hell do you protect that? I haven't gone looking but I presume the Edge devices now don't have tempered glass protectors for them?

Yeah I was wondering that too. Im guessing they will have to specially design a curved tempered glass to fit over this screen. I don't think they ever did that for the Note edge but that was a very niche device. I think this S6 edge will be far more mainstream.

But yeah, can't lie. That does look pretty sexy. When was the last time we said that about a Samsung phone?

The same way everyone else protects their phone without a tempered glass protector on it. You just don't use one. I think people are figuring out that glass phones don't scratch or damage easily.

I don't even think they work in many cases, I've seen a number of drops break the tempered glass and the screen...

Depends on what you do, where you are, and the screen size. All it takes is one grain of traction sand on your finger or glove in winter and scratch-city.

Even film protectors would be troublesome I'd figure.

I like the design of the GS6 as shown there (assuming there aren't separate "plain" and Edge versions), but I question how practical that will be. I've used the Note Edge, and trying to hold on to the curved display side of that thing on a shaky bus is... tricky. With two curved sides, you're going to have to hold the GS6 gently.

How about never? Samsung has went from almost bottom of pile (design wise) to top of the heap in one iteration. Great work Samsung! (P.S. Now FIX your stupid TouchWiz!!!!)
