Dell U3415W discussion - 21:9 UltraWide (3440x1440)

So after much debate I am debating if I should just say Screw waiting for the Acer. Screw my 4 Dell 3014 that had some liquid into them and get this puppy.

Anyone here get two of them? If so is it unplayable in Surround with 2? I guess whats holding me back is I got so used to almost 60-72" diagonal with my 4 30" in portrait. What do you guys think? Is it even worth considering 2 or better to just use one and adjust. Gaming and movie wise it looks good, it just looks like it will be a bit off with 2.

I already am used to a curved screen as you can see in this photo I had my far left far right monitor slightly curved in with the two in the center. The bezels sat in front and behind to minimize them to 1"

Also how thin is the bezel on this puppy?

off topic, but for the life of me, i cannot understand how you can play games with those bezels in your face. it would drive me nuts.

Yeah, same here. I think if I went multi-monitor 3 would be the right number. With 2 I would put one center and one in portrait next to it on the side.

Need to be looking at pure monitor straight ahead.

^Just get a single 3415 and sit a lot closer while you game. I too don't think I can watch a movie or game with a bezel especially dead center. For a grand, you can get a very nice 50" TV for movies mounted on a wall.

i don't have two, but i can tell you i would not want two for surround. it's not curved enough for that (for gaming).. and it's just wide enough as it is, imo. it is a really, really good monitor though. get one and try it.

But he also said if I change my mind they will apply a $100 discount to the order. I will still return mine, and I won't make any claims as to the ethics of doing this intentionally to get a $100 discount, but there we are ;)

I was offered the same. If my BLB was better I would have kept due to the extra $100 off but it was just too distracting for me.

Finally took a couple photos. Quality isn't the best I am definitely not a photographer.

Wow. Is that the other dell in portrait mode or is that a different monitor? Curious in how that curve plays out in portrait.

Regards to bezels I gamed with 3, never did 4.juat had used 4 as an accessory. Why I asked about 2 of these 34" since the bezels would be distracting.

Movie wise I just got used to it after awhile, but that's the point getting something new I wanted something different.

My replacement looks to be pixel perfect, but there is a hairline scratch in the anti-glare coating about 2" long. I only noticed it after shining a flashlight on the monitor while it was off. I've considered keeping it if it didn't affect the image, and 95% of the time it doesn't. But if I angle my head just right and the light catches it, I can see it.

Kill me. Seriously, kill me. I cannot for the life of me get a defect free monitor. Why the hell would there be scratches on a brand new monitor? I'm done. I'll try the Acer 144Hz IPS when that comes out but that's it. I can't deal with this monitor lottery anymore. It's a total crapshoot.

The other is a Dell U2715H. It is fine in portrait mode. I use it to watch TV in media center and I put Battlelog on there when I play BF4. I also will put Afterburner and Teamspeak there. The U3415W doesn't do portrait mode. I previously had a 3 panel Eyefinity setup and really liked it. To me this is better. The bezels never really bothered me but this is just a better experience.

Does anyone know if the 21 day return policy means that Dell has to receive the monitor by the 21st day, or do you just have to get a return authorization by the 21st day? I think my 21 days is up on Monday. And their customer care is closed on the weekends. So I don't know what to do. :(

Hey I am a fairly good expert when it comes to Dell. If you call them on the 21rst day they will honor it. If they dont ask for the supervisor and they will fix it for you!;).

Interesting, So you are a lot happier with this vs what you had before? I wonder since I may be able to get one of these Dells working and if So I could swing it to Portrait mode if I cant get good money for it and use the 34" as the center. I wish the Acer were out already. Does the loss in height bother you?

For me there is no loss in height, I had my Eyefinty setup in landscape mode. I am much happier with this setup. Much less tinkering to get games working correctly. I don't really care about the whole freesync/Gsync thing. I must not be sensitive to the problems it fixes. I really like the quality of Dell displays plus their 3 year warranty is always easy to use if needed.

I must admit that I am drooling about this beauty.

Anybody having replaced a PLP setup (1200x1600+2560x1600+1200x1600) by this?
The only downside I can see is the decrease in the vertical resolution.

My only gripe aside from the corner bleed on this display is the overly aggressive overdrive on fast mode. I really wish that they toned it down a bit for less overshoot. I'll probably just be leaving the response time on normal.

Can anyone comment on putting three of these side-by-side? I need the measurements in total width after taking into consideration a normal sitting distance from the center monitor, and tilting the outside monitors towards the center so that from that normal distance you could see everything.

Having trouble determining if its possible from just photos, and it's not possible for me to evaluate in person.

If anyone can help by determining the total width for a triple monitor setup (it's not just x3 the width) I would appreciate it.

Maybe a cardboard mock-up would help you get a feeling for the massive span that three of these side-by-side would have.

Dimensions (Without Stand):
Height: 372 mm (14.65")
Width: 824.7 mm (32.47")
Depth: 73.3 mm (3.00")

Thinking of getting this monitor. Right now i have a Qnix semi glossy 1440p monitor and a GTX 980 Classified. Am i better off with my current setup? I mean i like the qnix coating ( dont know about the Dell), overclocks to 120 Hz, almost zero input lag and i dont have to mess around with UHD resolutions for games. Especially the ones that do not have proper support(have to wait for flawless widescreen fixes, FOV fixes and the like). Or is it worth it? What do you guys think?

Sounds like it does everything you need, after owning one of these Dell U3415W, i'd say keep what you have and wait for a product like the Acer 144hz 3440x1440 display.

For people interested in the Dell U3415W price match the Amazon deal ($990) to Dell. Add on the 10% rewards if using DPA (with 6 month interest free promo) then you can get an extra $99 gift card.

If you have Dell Advantage (free to enroll,) then you can get 5% off so it would be $990 with about a $49.50 (5% of the $989 price matched from Amazon) gift card. You'll also get free two day shipping.

Hope this helps to those interested in the monitor. If this is against forum rules then please let me know. I did this with Dell and also tacked on the $50 extra gift card with $400 purchase of gift card promotion that was going on last week, so I was able to get the monitor for $940 + tax with a $99 promo gift card emailed later with Dell Advantage and using DPA. This deal isn't as excellent as the two stackable 10% off coupon codes that Dell inadvertently let happen but it is very close. Dell also has a price match guarantee and also you're guaranteed with their Premier 3 year warranty. I've heard that Dell support for those monitors bought from third party sites is iffy, even if those sites were Dell Authorized retailers.

Dell apparently won't have this monitor in stock for the next 3-5 weeks so it might be better to buy from Amazon since they have it in stock now.

EDIT: Monitor from Amazon is now back up to $1139.61. It was $990 earlier this morning and has been since release.

Provantage has it for $951.57, but it is out of stock. Dell will not price match provantage as it is not an authorized Dell retailer and it isn't on their list of approved price matching retailers.

Hi All
@Ellstromz thanks for the suggestion. The two 27" on the sides and the 34" in the center sounds great. Did really well at Atlantic City last week so I should be able to swing it..

Thanks again.
Scratch this idea of the U3415H in the center and two U2715H on either side. The bezel on the U2715H "looks" the same as the U3415H but the 2715 has a much thinner bezel. It's almost half the thickness and looks beautiful but side by side the monitors won't be the same height (bezel wise). It will be 1/4" shorter on top and bottom. If the 3415 had the thinner 2715 bezel, it would be super sexy. Colors on the 3415 does look much richer too but I'm sure can be adjusted.

Wow, that would be an insanely wide setup. I have an IKEA 78" table top desk with two U3415H and it was already very wide and barely inside the ends of the desk. Unless you're working on a dinning room table, three 34" is awesome yet silly. You can angle them but at the same rate, you'll need side-view-mirrors to use that setup. Each monitor is just over 32" wide and a total maybe 85-90" angled a bit. I agree with the comment of mocking this setup before going this route.

Has anyone's monitor turned off (display turns black) for a second or two while using it? It happened to me twice over the past month. I wasn't doing anything demanding, just browsing the web. It recovers by itself, and there's no error messages or anything. Display port glitch?

Same here. I'm using the normal display port (not the mini-DP), and use the USB input for the keyboard. It happened after the monitor was running for a longer period.

anyone else having a bit of color difference when viewing a full white page? my right side of the monitor is more white then the left side. becomes a bit yellow ish even tho i find my blb acceptable

Anybody tried using monitor to share USB keyboard and mouse? It has two USB up links to supposedly be a sort of poor man's USB kvm?

Just noticed Amazon's price has jumped. Keep an eye out for future sales...

the color uniformity compensation works really well. too bad it gets rid of the good whites though.

On my first u3415w the display was yellow on the left, too. The active color uniformity compensation corrects that but can not be set in this mode the brightness. Is this on your Dell differently?

sorry for my english:)

you indeed can not change brightness when you enable color unifomity.

did you get a replacement?

what settings are people using on their monitor? uniformity compensation on or off? standard/custom color?

Today my new Dell came(not from Dell). I have not tested it.
If it uniformity compensation on, the brightness at 100%. This is too bright.

Does anyone know how to get into the sevice menu? Maybe you can change what there.

I currently have a dell 30", is this a worthy upgrade? Is something new on the horizon I should wait for? Cost does not matter.

If you're already enjoying a 30" I'd say hold off until summer or so when we see what g-sync, freesync, etc. all brings to the game. At that point we might see a couple worthy upgrades, either going to 4K or Ultrawide.

Though for me, Ultrawide is vastly more appealing...

We're in the same boat! I have/had 4 in surround

So far I'm leaning at the Acer 144hz model and the OLEDS (if they have low input lag).

The issue seems to be like you I'm used to the height of the 30" in my case I had 4 in portrait. Keep me posted what you get I'm still looking buy NCX recommended me these (I'm waiting to see them in person) B32HK or BenQ BL3201PH.

Check some of my other threads curious what you get!

are more people experiencing the color difference? (right and left side of screen) best viewed on a white background.

thingking of getting a replacement

For me it has helped to adjust the contrast of 75% to 77%. The image on my looks much smoother.
I'm happy now.
