I just got an e-mail from Amazon saying that Amazon Prime will be $72 tomorrow only. That's a pretty big savings for a year of Prime which gives you free two-day shipping, Prime Music, Prime Photos, Prime Video and access to the Kindle Lending Library.

Steve can you check that email again and confirm that's what it really says?

There is no info about it online except for rumor and people like myself who are on a 30 day trial trying to figure out what we'd need to do IF they offer this price tomorrow.

This is really confusing.

$72? Pfft. I've been getting for $49 that last couple years 'cause of my student status. So :p.

My prime was supposed renew last week, instead of getting the student rate they were going the charge me full price so I canceled. Still not sure sure if $72 is worth it but I may....

Purchase it a gift - and send it to yourself. Redeem the gift when your current subscription expires.

I tried to do that last year before the price hike. Amazon instead just converted the price of the prime membership renewal into an amazon e-giftcard.

Even $100 is worth it with as much stuff as I buy online.

The best part is normally I can upgrade to overnight shipping for less than $5.

I find it really sucks that they aren't giving people who are current members the same price for renewals. Things just seem backwards to me these days, loyal customers screw em, new ones, here are your discount rewards.

I don't know anyone else that has received the email. I buy a crap-ton of stuff from them - I'd jump on the $72.

I'll actually be quite pissed...my Prime renewed 16 days ago.

But you literally save $0. Nothing.

The only difference is that you are getting faster shipping, not free shipping. Unless you're always ordering things you'd die if you had to wait two extra days for, you can order on Monday and have it by Friday without Amazon prime.

For $99 a year, it should be free next-day shipping.

Totally worth it for how much stuff I order. Totally beats driving to the store and dealing with idiotic people. Get better customer service with Amazon too when something does go wrong.

I just checked my order totals.
2015: 16 Orders already....
2014: 233 Orders
2013: 240 orders
2012: 198 orders

So yea, for $100, I'll take free 2 Day shipping and super cheap next day shipping.

We don't have to have Netflix anymore for the kids with the Amazon Prime Streaming , and occasionally watch some movie all together for free on the PS3 for family movie night. Pays for itself right there.

I can get a 75lb heavy bag next day air delivery for 3.99 , Sunday delivery on something I decide I wanted on a Saturday , for free on tons of items.

We've been Prime members since 08 , and it's been more than worth it. With Prime , we rarely buy anything at a store , saving on tax , and get ridiculously good customer service. I'm a sys engineer who does work on the side for clients who want work done at their homes that I know from the business side.

I've probably ordered 100 or so laptops and built 50 or so desktops from parts from Amazon , combined with tons of other items , and they've never once given me grief for returns, Going through 7 monitors once , crosshipped , with no charge , and they gave me 3 months extra prime member ship for that grief on that incident.

You have a package one day late and contact them and they bump your Prime membership by a month.

Mine has been free for a year now from the sheer amount of items I order and have had a day slip here or there.

I've seen people gripe here and there at times about returns or something with Amazon , and it must be they take care of the Prime members better , because I've sent back a full setup of parts from a rig I built that kept having issues , got sick of troubleshooting , and broke it down. I had already trashed half the boxes. Literally sent an EVO 212 cooler back loose in a cardboard box with no screws or packaging along with other parts in same state and got full refund , plus 10 credit and bump to my Prime membership.

Newegg next day shipping a 32 inch monitor ? 60 bucks.

Prime ? 3.99 (and often its free next day because I've got a massive Amazon warehouse within 100 miles so 2 day get it there next for free).

I've just never once had a bad experience with Amazon , because when they have screwed up soemthing , I call up and they immediately take care of it above and beyond.

I thought this, too. I had Prime for a year over a year ago. Cancelled it because I didn't think I was saving any money ordering stuff from Amazon.

However, more items I was ordering after I cancelled had some sort of a shipping fee. Not everything was free shipping. I added it up and in about 7 months I had already paid for Prime twice with the shipping I was paying.

Got Prime two months ago and haven't had to pay a shipping charge since then.

Granted not everything is free TWO-DAY shipping, but it seems more things are FREE shipping, period.

Prime is good if their video selections were not watch the first season, pay a lot for each episode there after. Also, I do not really buy enough to save the money especially since they do not ship so Puerto Rico. However, $72 for a year is a good deal.

I save plenty, 2 weeks ago I ordered 2 video cards and had them overnighted for $3.99

most of the stuff that is not 'Free Shipping' is also not eligible for Prime...Prime is only good for people who order a lot or really needs things in a day or 2...most times I order without Prime I get it just as fast...maybe living in NYC has a lot to do with it...maybe if I lived out in some town in the middle of nowhere Prime would be more useful

I signed up for free prime the a few weeks before Xmas to make sure I got stuff quickly, it was nice, and it was nice to have movies/tv shows but damnit if the layout for the movies wasn't a pain in the ass to get through, not every movie was prime eligible and couldn't really find a quick and easy way to look for a particular movie, or genre.

Having prime ever for just all the stuff I bought during the black friday and christmas week sales being free two-day shipping was absolutely worth it.

I've never had anything from Amazon (3rd party sellers vary) that wasn't free shipping if you met the minimum order (currently $35).
If you place lots of small orders, then it's probably a decent deal, but I just can't justify it. Frankly, it'd just encourage me to make more impulse buys, which benefits Amazon more than me.
Now if you want an Echo, this is a steal. Echo + prime on sale is cheaper than Echo without prime.
When I had prime from BF through Xmas, I was underwhelmed. At least 2 or 3 orders didn't arrive when they said they would and 2 orders on Cyber Monday didn't arrive until Friday. I believe they should have arrived on Thursday (because it was certainly after the Monday cutoff for some of the orders), but Friday? 2 years ago I would have gotten it by Thursday or Friday without prime.

If their video quality was better and their audio was 5.1, I'd consider it for that, but it's not, so it's meaningless to me. They do have audio streaming, but I've got a music server and if I really need to hear a song, I can open up spotify.

Still, if you're like the guy who made 200+ orders in a year, then this probably makes sense...especially since Amazon now sits on non-prime order for 2-3 days before shipping (otherwise they'd arrive in 1-3 days).

I talked with chat.

I was told that it was for new members currently but I asked if it was possible if I bought the Amazon prime as a gift and then used it on my account once my membership runs out (it ends in early Feb.).

The chat rep said that they were not sure about that and offered me $5 amazon promotional code for my trouble.

So I am going to use it to buy the Prime gift and hope that it wil work once my prime runs out next month.

That means you paid MORE than it would have otherwise cost you for their free shipping, which for most people is 3-day ground shipping. As I said, you don't save a single penny, you're paying more for faster shipping, not FREE shipping. The shipping is already FREE for anything prime.

And BTW, it was only $3.99 because the package was lightweight and small. You used to be able to upgrade to next day shipping for a flat fee, but now if you do it for something big and heavy you'll see its a huge upgrade fee.

You can't even buy an Echo as far as I know, you have to request to buy one. They check how often you review and if your reviews are all positive, and if so they send it to you. If you have a history of moderate and some negative reviews, they won't even sell it to you.

This has happened to me twice. Both times I got an extra month of prime.

I ordered a bagger for my lawn mower, $3.99 and it arrived the next day. Package was like 4x3 feet.

Prime is indeed $72 and if I sign up for the Amazon Prime Credit Card, I'll get an $70 Gift Card bringing my total cost for the year to $2.

However the Amazon card has higher interest and less rewards than my current CC I use...

It's true you need to wait for an invite.

However, my ancient Amazon account with hundreds of items ordered and only two reviews (both of which were negative) has already received an invite.

Amazon Prime (One Year Membership) is not available for you to purchase because you are either a Prime member or you are buying Prime with 1-Click ordering. Please delete this item to continue.

It said if I do it as a gift that if the person is already a member they will get a gift card...so I would be buying myself a $72 gift card?

That's what I am not sure of either. I think someone on Slickdeals posted that you buy the gift card for Prime, then have it set to be delivered for the day before your prime expires to your email address and it should work. But I also read a post from some other person that did it with a previous offer and amazon basically cancelled their "gift of prime" and sent them a gift card for the amount spent. So I am not sure if I should give it a try. I definitely don't want a gift card alone, I want the prime membership for the price.
