Asassin's Creed 5: Unity

From a technical standpoint? No. The game on PC doesn't run anywhere near as badly as some people seem to think it does. I'm running the game @ 1440 and it's perfectly playable, not a constant 60 but considering the game that seems totally on target (average framerate is somewhere around 45-50).

The belly aching is coming from people with lower spec machine and console users, Ubisoft seemingly over reached on the technical side of things and the Xbox/PS4 simply can't keep up with what their being told to do.

I know you got to defend being a $59.99 beta tester but when SLI 970's/980's cant run AA past 1080p to maintain 60FPS that's an issue. My LOD looks like garbage past 200m looks like a Solidblock silhouette skybox. Game crashes randomly, texture popin, NPC popin at 50m falling through the world geometry.

Tomorrow we should get a couple dozen funny bug compilations from people.
Game is shit sorry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgpzT5V5Mgs

Wasted one of my Nvidia 980/970 Pick3 game combos on this

Game is pretty fun, but anyone else miss the ship battles from black flag?

Scenes like this are what impress me. This just doesn't exist in many other games.

So, apparently people are now stating that you can increase your fps if you run the game offline. It apparently works for the PS4 & PC (I guess this game isn't always online?). Could anyone try it to see?

At no point did I say the game was without issue, I'm simply pointing out that the performance claims are grossly overblown for the PC version. The less than stellar SLI scaling isn't really the developers problem, hopefully once nvidia's profiles improve as will the performance.

Running the game maxed out with only Shadows on high (no PCSS) and MSAA 4X and AO set to SSAO and it is giving me 50-80 fps. There are some very minor hitches here and there in cutscenes but seems like that is a consistent issue. I have tried turning on HBAO+ and PCSS but then it hitches like a mofo on crack.

Enjoyed Sequence 1 Memory 1 thus far. Arno is a great character from what I have seen. No graphical bugs etc faced thus far.

PCSS still is a real killer, good thing it's a fairly low benefit feature addition from those Gameworks effects.

I, on other hand, am glad, that there was no revolution in game mechanics. Yes, I'm sucker for the series, same as others are for MMO and will grind themselves to death repeating same raids every week just to get that item that gives +1 to a single stat. Or the CoD players.

Yes, I just want to parkour through historic places and events, to enjoy the story of templars vvs asassins, and not have mechanics and style of game changed every year. I'm perfectly fine with what and how Ubi does with that series. And I do hope that they never change this game into something some "hardcore" players want.

Yes, I'm casual gamer, I just want to enjoy the series I like in the way I like. It should not be too hard, Dark Souls style, because I play the games for fun and story, not for the frustration of repeating the death and trying to beat the boss. And I don't give the fuck about what others think of this game. I just bought it and I'll buy any next AC games. I'd just love if they would set it up in ancient Rome or Athens, even Egypt.

Is anyone else having trouble just downloading this game?

I get about 4 or 5gb in, and then it stops for some reason, and if I try to restart it, it says there's not enough disk space, even though there is. Then I have to delete what it already downloaded and start from scratch. Given that the whole game is 41GB (holy crap, is every game that big now?!), this is becoming obnoxious.

Disabling sleep didn't seem to make a difference - uPlay seems to be smart enough to ask the system to not sleep while it's downloading. I guess maybe their servers are just getting hammered or something? The download rate maxes out my connection, though, and ~1.8MB/s.

In case anyone else is having this problem, I did manage to fix it.

The issue, in my case, is that I was installing the game on a volume formatted in FAT32. I dual boot this machine with OSX, and that was the only way I could figure out how to make a drive that both OSes could write to. Trouble is, FAT32 apparently supports a maximum file size of 4GB, and this game includes several files that are larger than that, so uPlay chokes when it tries to write them to the disk, and it can't.

Formatting the volume with NTFS fixed the problem for me, and I was able to download the game overnight.

I just want more depth, is that too much to ask for? It doesn't have to be a huge leap, just more depth.

In combat for instances, why not allow for more varied attacks/defense? Let us attack high/medium/low, let us choose to block in that, give us stances/guards to use (Which each could have their own movesets).

There's just soooooooo much more that could be done in regards to the melee system but they just seem to want to make it so barebones/basic that it quickly gets boring.

I was hoping no counter would help it, but it really doesn't add anything, the only difference now is thatinstead of counter'ing leading to an "I Win" button you just parry (works the same as a counter did) and then have to tap attacks over and over.

Yes this makes combat not as "Easy" as the past games but it also really doesn't address the overall issue with combat that most people have, and that's just has simplistic it is, there's really no depth to it.

For anyone even remotely educated in how fencing and sword fighting worked in history it's just not at all like this.

Relax they are adding it.. Bitching about it wont do anything.

That is the games official release time. They just released it early cause they are nice. And they did provide advanced copies to reviewers.

The gameplay sections I get pretty much 55-65 FPS area. All settings max but AA. But the cut scenes dive down to 30-40fps. But they look amazing. It's almost like the game is dynamic and switches the graphics level during cutscenes/gameplay scenes.

1920x1080 with a EVGA 970 GTX and core i5 2500K @ 4.2 Ghz is what I am running.

Nope - still unbelievably waiting on my order from Uplay to come through... Apparently, Uplay uses Digital River (3rd party provider) to distribute keys who screwed up a bunch of preorders. Take a gander over at the Ubi forums...

Also, no, early copies weren't provided to reviewers. Where are you getting all this brilliant information?

I'd cancel that order before it fulfills at this point.

Ubisoft has taken the unusual step of launching a live blog to chart its work fixing Assassin's Creed: Unity's plethora of launch bugs...errors given priority for a fix include:

•Arno falling through the ground.
•Game crashing when joining a co-op session.
•Arno getting caught inside of hay carts.
•Delay in reaching the main menu screen at game start

Following the release of its first main patch, Ubisoft said it is planning to roll out a number of additional updates that will address other widely reported problems, such as:

•Frame rate issues.
•Graphical and collision issues.
•Matchmaking co-op issues.
•Helix Credits issues

I'm definitely not using my Pick Your Path Nvidia code on this...Far Cry 4 it is...will get Unity in a few weeks when the patches have been rolled out (including the main Tessellation one)...by that time people should be selling the codes for cheap on forums

If you're lucky FC4 won't suffer from any of the same issues. I know it's not the same development team per say, but both are by the same publisher. Who knows.

same engine as FC3 so I'm not expecting any major issues...Unity was a next-gen game so issues were expected

Far Cry 4 is using the same engine as #3 isn't it? While I'm sure there will be bugs, Unity's are compounded by having a totally new engine.

(EDIT: Looks like I was beaten to the punch by a few seconds :p)

Well from my non-scientific tests on my machine, I can get a baseline normal 45-53 FPS at 2560x1600 with bloom off, No AA, High on everything else, but each of the following will reduce my frame rates:

HBAO+ ~3-4fps drop
PCSS ~3-4fps drop
FXAA ~2-3fps drop
2xMXAA ~5fps drop

So turning on PCSS, HBAO+ and FXAA will drop my frame rate as much as about 11fps to a range of about 34-42fps as I play. The in game cutscenes usually drop it lower when they do lots of close ups. So I am sticking to high everything and No AA. So far the game is stable for me (a whole lot more stable than the last time I played Lords of the Fallen). I only had a couple of minor issues and one where I ended up between a roof and an open window, got stuck and had to quit and restart my game.

Played the opening on my 3770/290 combo and it played well enough at 2560x1440, "high", SSAO, no AA -> 40-50fps. Doesn't really seem worse than AC4, but I know it gets worse as the game opens up.

Huge frame rate drops in cutscenes though.

Where are you getting YOUR brilliant information? Reviewers had advance copies, hence the post-release NDA kerfuffle, remember? If they didn't have advance copies they wouldn't be under NDA (unless they're stupid and sign anything) and there would be no issue.

For me, changing my PC sound settings (on board sound) from 6 speaker to 2 speaker improved the cut-scene slow down noticably.

This stuff existed in Half-Life 2, in fact the graphics in HL2 were nearly as good.
I'm just not impressed.
I've always looked at game play and story over graphics, but if either are poor, something nice to look at doesn't hurt.

Well got my first issue with the game. Getting the ACU.EXE crash when entering disctricts Pantheon and Saint-Marcel. UBI developer has addressed on the Steam forums that they are looking into this issue. Unfortunately quite a few missions are in those areas so it looks like I am going to have to stop and wait for the patch. Bummer.

I'm having this same exact problem :(

whats funny about all this is that it isnt even released here yet, perhaps a scenario where staggered release loses sales?

Only the OP says it worked for him so far, nobody else has said anything.
He said he plugged in his ethernet *while playing the game* and his frame rate dropped again.

Weird stuff.

I have not used a benchmark tool yet so this is strictly subjective perception while playing:

GTX 780 3GB, 16 GB of DDR3 RAM, Intel 4770K...

I have not had perceptible (key word) performance drops after 4 hours of total play so far. That doesn't mean it isn't happening but I'm not seeing anything egregious that stands out. I'm playing at 1920X1200 with everything pretty much maxed out. MSAA is at 4. Vsync is on. I have not attempted to do anything outside of the game's menus yet.

So far I'm playing a pretty damned good Assassin's Creed game all told.

The next time I play I'll fire up FRAPS and start seeing what's going on there.

The cutscenes didn't seem laggy? Some are reporting 17fps for certain cutscenes with GTX 980 SLI.

What processor & how much RAM for the people with 980 SLI who are getting sub 20 fps on cut scenes? I'm only partially through Paris, but the cut scenes have been a constant 60 fps. The frame rate drops tend to happen more around areas where there are tons of people.

I fixed performance drops, especially those during cutscenes by turning off shadowplay. With my single GTX 970, I can play with everything on ultra and TXAA with around 50 FPS average

Yeah I actually changed to High shadows as I actually prefer them over PCSS. I guess I am weird but I like that hard shadow look. And the 5FPS boost sure will go a long way.

Now if I could just get the game from crashing/freezing whenever I am anywhere in the southern section of the map (paris) this game would be fantastic. I literally can't continue with any of the main story mission because of this issue. And apparently it is pretty wide spread according to the various forums.

I wonder if any other [H] members are having this issue and whether you have the Steam or Uplay version of the game?

Here and here. It is widespread in the southern regins to get the 'freeze' but the crashing seems to be pinpointed to the Pantheon and Saint Marcel districts( La Bievre).

Ahh, that's probably why as I'm guessing he was using shadowplay to record the video

I have this same exact problem. Mine was from uplay

1440p, 2600k @ 4.7 and a 290 @ 1150/1600 - all settings high, AA off, FPS frequently in the 20s but usually in the high 30s to low 50s. What a joke.
