Nexus 6 speculation

What is the benefit of pre-ordering vs buying off amazon when it comes out? Did the N5 run out of stock or something if you didnt pre-order?

I would be getting 3% back if I got it off amazon because of my Chase credit card.

edit: Will amazon have it up for pre-order also?

Pre-ordering from google / carriers should net you the phone faster. Amazon might offer it in a few days/weeks I think you get 5% not 3% cashback and there are no shipping / tax in some states for amazon making it even cheaper.

64GB now live...and out of stock.

Apparently the initial stocking of 3 phones of each model is now gone.

It is either that...or the page listings are getting updated one by one for the sale, with real stock selling in 30 minutes, and the initial sale a mistake.

1215PM CST is an odd time to open sales.

Knew it. Checked 1st thing this am and it wasn't live. Checked back shortly later and it's sold out.

I'm highly suspect they are selling out of the N6 that quick...

And I asked my carrier (T-Mobile) and they know nothing of the 6 landing there.

I had the Twitter feed notification setup and by the time I got to the Playstore they were already out of stock.

I got an "Add to Cart" button...by the time the page forward processed to Cart...OoS.

Yeah, this sounds like a classic Nexus device launch... since there's hardly any stock, it sells out in moments.

Wish Google would do a better job of getting partners to ship enough devices. I know Lollipop won't be truly ready until November, but try to build up some inventory ahead of time, folks!

Hopefully when it's available on Verizon with discount there will be enough to go around. I'm not switching carriers so I have an upgrade to burn.

Next question: anyone know of any reputable places selling a decent case / holster combo for the N6? My google-fu isn't turning up that much.

Most reputable case makers haven't even started production of them yet. All the entires on Amazon say "ships in 1-2 months".

Ugh. Dammit. I don't want to go grabbing the phone without at least a bit of protection on it. I guess I'll see what T-Mo has in stock when I go in a couple weeks.

My stopgap solution is usually a large microfibre pouch, like the ones you sometimes get for sunglasses and the like. It won't protect the phone if you drop it, but it at least means your phone won't get scuffed to oblivion while it's in your pocket.

I used to do this when my phone was sub 5.7" but since then I haven't found a microfiber sack that my Note 3 will fit.

Oh well, .5st world problems.

So, as I understand it, the google play version will work on any carrier (I am specifically concerned with ATT 4g), and the 'carrier branded' versions are similar in terms of hardware but may allow you to finance on your plan and may have 'added content' put on by the carriers, including a delay in receiving updates.

Seems like the google version would be the way to go. Am I missing anything?

Come on google, you said everyone wants a phablet, bring on the inventory!

They sold their 2 dozen phones for the day.

I'm disappointed about the limited inventory (that sold remarkably quickly..). I refreshed the page really often today and it went from 'preorder on oct 29th' to 'out of inventory' :(

This was the case for 90% of people on XDA.

Odds are like Black Friday sales, they only had a dozen or so of each SKU to start with.

Can Google do anything right aside from search (which they arguably just got lucky with).

same here. I want to use my upgrades at verizon

Has it been confirmed that the google play version will work with wifi calling for T-Mobile? Or will only the T-Mobile version work?

Ah I thought they made some big deal a while back that every future phone they shipped would support wifi calling.

Same here. But at this point I can't even say Verizon will have this phone in 2014, not to mention the somewhat hazy situation regarding Verizon and updates.

Burn in hell Google, worst product 'launch' ever. You managed to exceed your own low standards (set the last 2 years) for the biggest release of Android ever, for a phone thats your flagship and on all carriers for the first time ever.

Do we need an "invite" to get this phone now ? LOL

Come on Google your out of stock the first day on a $700 phone ?

Curious how many Nexus 6 carrier stores will have in stock ? Or Worst Buy ?

Now that I have to pay tax on Amazon and Best Buy match prices with Amazon, B&H, TigerDirect, and other big internet seller, Best Buy isn't bad at all. The annoying thing is having to match price with them EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE.

I hope they're not not bending over and giving all their partners the lions share of the stock allocation. Given their weak negotiating around partners f**king with the software on the phones, they don't seem like the best deal makers.

What bothers me right now is that there has been no work of prices for the UK and Europe. It looks like Google is testing the initial reaction in the US and the fixing the exchange rate accordingly. :(

I highly doubt verizon has any control over the phone, the galaxy nexus had a completely separate model for verizon and it got updated slower. The nexus 6 is one model for att, tmobile, sprint, and verizon, makes me think they will all be the same on each carrier with updates at the same time.

Not from my experience. Just show the screen of my phone to the cashier. And s/he will hit some buttons and magic...

Same experience here, though I had them price match their own website on something. ($25+tax on website, $35+tax in store)

These still pictures are more impressive when put into perspective. Not so sure about motion though considering the way it works and where I would like to see improvement.
