Nexus 6 speculation

The Nexus Player uses an Intel Atom!

And I also wonder if you could install Amazon + Amazon Video on it so we can also watch Prime videos.

Unfortunately, no official pricing yet of any of the devices. But some reports a price of $649 for the 32GB Nexus 6. News fulfilling prophecy? (google could have thrown a number out there as rumors just to hear the response)

My 60 yo mom loves the Chromecast. My dad, however, is confused; but then he also doesn't really use his Nexus 5 for any smart things either...

Would love to see a real hands on video of the Nexus 6, hopefully something will come on YouTube before we can place a pre-order.

This is the end of Nexus. the 6 is another for profit phone no different from those sold by other oem's, with a high price tag, it just happens to be branded by Google.

They didn't even say if the versions from US carriers would be free of bloatware or would get updates from Google.

Well well well, according to the official page, VZW is getting the phone afterall. Now I have a decision to make. 6" phone running stock Lollipop, or 5.2" phone running lightly skinned Lollipop with an epic battery.

Droid Turbo is unfortunately not running Lollipop, and knowing Verizon's track record it might be some time before it does. According to the leaked manual the Turbo has 4.4.4

Are they keeping the Nexus 5? They re-did the N5's page and made it look like it's staying as a smaller phone option.

Sure, I'm sadden by the rumored price of $649. But even at that price, it's superior to a TouchWiz-bola infected Note 4. This is probably what Google wants to hear before they announce the pricing for reals...

I'll buy a Nexus over a Note 4 right now. This phone is pricey but impressive.

I know this is not related to the N6, but I just noticed - Nexus Player?

Seems kind of redundant considering Android phones have had all that capability and gamepad support with SixAxis app since 2011 and there's also the Chromecast minus gamepad support.

Probably the biggest interest will be getting it to boot Linux or Windows and run XBMC.

People do realize only 2 of the 6 Nexus phones were sold at a loss in the $349 range, the other four Nexus phones were standard flagship pricing of the day.

Nexus-One was like approx. $550
Nexus-S $600
Galaxy Nexus $650 ( Then six months later dropped to $399 but at launch was full price )
Nexus 4 $349
Nexus 5 $349
Nexus 6 $650

No Moto sensors
No Moto software
No wireless charging

You'd expect all of this to be included, esp at a $650 price. A lazy effort from Google when including these would cost almost nothing.

If they did include those then no one would buy the 2014 Moto X. Motorola didn't want to shoot itself in the face.

The size was the first deal breaker and wireless charging is the second. I can't believe they didn't include that.

This is definitely on my buy list around Christmas, after I get me 6+ from Tmo.
N6 and 6+ is a dynamic duo.

It will get 5.0 eventually. I think the Moto X actually got pretty quick updates due to the light skinning.

Meh, I understand why they made the screen so massive (for soft keys) but this phone is very big. I'll have to try it out before writing it off.

Given the rapid charging of the phone, wireless was mostly likely a compromise of this feature.
I'll take the rapid charging over the slower wireless charging.

As for the Moto stuff, I don't want any carrier features on this phone, or I may as well get a Note 4.

MicroSD slot?

One website, I think the Verge said no mSD, but I hope that's not true.

That's what I've been saying all along. Nexus devices will never be bleeding edge since the manufacturer making it (Samsung, LG, Motorola, etc.) won't let it cannibalize their flagship devices. Think of Nexus as the Toyota and not the Lexus.

At least it comes in a 32gb flavor. If it came with 16 and no SD slot I would be concerned then.

Droid Maxx and Ultra were updated, I expect the Turbo will be too. Droid phones are the exception on Verizon.

Footprint:

iPhone 6 Plus - Nexus 6 - Note 4 - Lumia 1520 - (OnePlus) One - G3

I have a friend who is a WP fanboy running a Nokia 1520; so I played with his phone for a bit, it's definitely TOO BIG. The Nexus 6 is slightly smaller.

so differences with Note 4 is
- 5.7inch vs 5.96inch screen
- touchwiz vs stock android
- microsd + removable battery vs no slot/sealed off back
- finger print + heart rate + s-pen on note 4 ( most probably don't give shit )
- $699 ~ $825 depending on carrier vs $649 (32gb ) $699 ( 64gb)
- camera needs to be tested

so rest should be pretty much the same spec wise right?

The pricing is insane for a Nexus device. Especially when comparing it to the OnePlus One (ie a competitor in the price range. There was a time when nobody was selling top grade phones for $350, but now we have OnePlus and 2 generations of Nexus phones reasonably priced). Spec-wise, I'm not sure I'm too impressed, as there seem to be some glaring omissions (ie RAM amount on the spec page. The damn thing needs to be at least 3GB, but it really should be 4GB), particularly wireless charging (Qi compatible). I can't believe that after 2 generations of Nexus devices with Qi Wireless Charging, they'd drop the damn thing, especially if the skyrocketing price seems to be true. From what I see here, the major features are the 1440p display and the new 805/420....along with the giant 6" size. Color me underhwelmed, especially if the price turns out to be true.

Worse, it seems they're "refreshing" the Nexus 5 in fucking color only. All would be forgiven regarding the 6 if they upgraded the 5's internals and features to give similar options to the 6 (ie 805 / 420, updated wireless/bluetooth etc...), but the presence of the 5 on that page, with its same old specs aside from some new colors, likely means there will not be a Nexus with smaller dimensions than the 6 anytime soon. Bloody hell.

Maybe if the 6 comes out at a reasonable $350 price, includes wireless charging etc... I'll take another look. For now, I'm disappointed.

Oh, and the new Nexus 9 tablet? 2GB RAM? Come on guys. Not acceptable. You've got all that bloody room. You can do better. The specs are mediocre (yes, its the new Nvidia chipset , but there seems to be little else). If they sell it for no more than $199, as was done with the Nexus 7, then I'll consider giving it a go. Otherwise, seems overpriced for "meh" specs. Hell, it should have wireless charging too! Nexus 7 tablets used to have the same high end specs as the phones released at the time more or less. I've been in the market for a new tablet, so I'll see how it develops.

EDIT: That new link shows it does include wireless charging! Hope it is Qi compatible! Strange how the teaser site doesn't mention it. I hope that the link above isn't wrong... Likewise, confirms 3GB RAM (ho hum. 4GB would have been ahead of the curve). Insisting on the $699 price huh? Also, provides more information on the Nexus 9. Too bad wireless charging isn't listed. Specs still "meh"...price of $399!?! These kinds of prices put it squarely out of the "I should accept a compromise because the price is reasonable" category, so I expect near perfection. Nexus giving up on the pricing (combined with relatively few compromises) that made them most desirable is frustrating though.

Yep I knew there was no way moto was going to do it sub $400. It was everyones pipe dream. But google did finally do a halo nexus device with top end specs. So I guess I dont have to eat my words after all. I might get it though just to play with it but I probably wont replace my Z2.

Nexus 6 has AMOLED

About the Qi charger or the lack thereof, Gizmodo is reporting that there is Qi charging. Maybe they made a wrong assumption.

And the Nexus 6 is AMOLED.

As for the Nexus 9 only having 2GB of RAM, who cares... it's going to be benchmark king at least until next January when Mediatek releases its own versions of 64bit processors. Mediatek supposedly will release something to OEM's in December. I don't know the time table of Qualcomm yet.

Does RAM amount really matter all that much? I've never heard of a Nexus device running low on RAM. I've only ever heard that with phones running 1GB or less (like the iPhone 5S).

And theres no way the Nexus 9 would've been priced the same as the Nexus 7. The N9 is an upgrade to it in every way (Far faster CPU, 4:3 resolution, HTC BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers, double tap to wake and a MUCH larger battery) and the N6 kind of invalidates the existence of the N7.

Actually the N5 is not even getting new colors, the phones in those pictures all have official Google cases on them which have been available for a while now.

The pricing is unfortunate, but at the same time it feels almost necessary for Google to pop the balloon. Sorry, people, here's what phones and tablets actually cost for companies that want to make money. They're still fairly good deals, but you're right in that you should expect (and will hopefully get) more for your trouble.

I'm most surprised that Google didn't do anything to the Nexus 5 besides maybe introduce some new cases. It would've been nice to see a Snapdragon 801 or 805, even if nothing else changed.

What screen is the Nexus 6 using ? Says it a 1440p AMOLED, and the only phone with that same type of screen is the Samsung Note 4, they don't both share the same screen tech do they ?

That picture is not correct. The Nexus 6 is actually a hair taller than the iPhone 6 Plus, so the N6 should go on the left side first. And the G3 is actually a fair bit smaller than the OnePlus One, but your picture makes it seem almost taller.

And why is the Note 1 in there ?

In the past, Moto got its OLED screens from SDC. So I expect this to still be true.

The picture is not in order of size. And not to mention, the N6 is a hair taller than the 6 Plus in the middle tallest part of the phone. It's rounded/curved.

And... LOL!

How is One+ selling a phone with top end specs for $300 and 64Gb for only $350. Even if they are losing money and not breaking even, it can't be that much.

I find it very hard to believe Moto/Google are not making a healthy profit on the Nexus 6 price point. Its just another phone Android phone with price to match the specs + profit margin.

I want to know if it is hackable? But man that is a big phone. I have been waiting to upgrade but I might need to wait a little longer.
