Alien: Isolation... Is a GOOD Alien game possible? (leaked screens)

Haven't tried it just yet but from what I seen it reminds me a lot of Fear but looks better then Fear. The low lighting flashing ect....

So what is the consensus on the AI of the xenomorph? Are the concerns of some of the early reviews real or unfounded?

I have seen it do some odd things occasionally but for the great majority of the time, it's very well done. Creepy as fuck to hear it moving through the vents tracking your movements...

One who is planning on returning his man card....

/me readies envelop.
Correction: They never had the card to begin with! :D

The smiling baby sun in teletubbies is scarier than any zenomorph... I mean think about the indestructible power one would need to withstand that kinda heat combined with the selfish nature of babies... aliens would dissolve as the baby tried to approach them to gobble them up, only to cry when they vanish and then proceed to destroy a few hundred planets in its rage.

It is actually a pretty good game. Maybe even a great game. Only problem I see with it, is that it has the same problem any fright game has for me, really low replay value. It will not be scarey the second time through.

I almost bought an Oculous Rift dev kit just for this game. I wish I had at this point.

Seriously, this is game is designed for the Oculous Rift.

This game is compatible with the oculus rift?

Yes, with a hack. Why they did not include official support for it when the demo they were showing to "journalists" was sometimes on the Rift I don't know.
Rift is a niche of a niche I suppose. They might have put getting it 100% on the back burner to launch on time. They may officially patch it back in at some point.

Played this for about 2 hours last night. The sound design is just excellent! Best I have experienced in a very long time. Creeping around, finding audio logs, drilling into terminals, hacking systems...dare I say it reminds me of system shock?

I just now remembered, is Anti-aliasing not working?

No matter what I select I still notice that the game has a lot of jaggies on fine lines and things, it feels like AA isn't working or something.

Ive noticed that as well, i tried every AA method in game and have done it via Control panel.

Also, who designed the options menu? Everything is reversed its weird

The default FOV is 45 and goes up to 75....

Regarding the jaggies, have you guys tried downsampling? Maybe the AA is broken and needs to be fixed in a patch. Just tossing ideas out there. I don't have this yet but I'm getting a mostly positive vibe. I'll definitely pick it up at some point as I'm a huge fan of the Alien franchise and the reference to System Shock above made my man parts move a little.

Watched the AJS stream last night. After a certain point Joe was literally facepalming. At one point they were too slow on a QTE and lost around 20 minutes of progress. Joe then starting bitching about the save system and a lack of auto saves. Was getting late, so I had to go to sleep after seeing that.

I suspected this was the case. The game looks really good but the gameplay just seems boring.

Hmm, interesting, im only an hour in so i haven't seen much other than the first alien who kills the first person you encounter

Give it about 3-4 hours thereabouts. That's what it took for me to finally be honest with myself.

Everyone's bullshit tolerance is different so it all comes down to how long the honeymoon phase with the environment and atmosphere lasts for everybody.

I predict this weekend or early next week you will see a lot more people's tones shift towards the "dissenting/negative reviews" and with people like myself. It's not going to be pretty. People don't like prick teases and this is a gem of a one.

When people realize that it's a terrible game trapped in an amazing atmosphere and environment.

Not too surprised. I watched a lot of the gameplay videos and the Sterling thing. A lot of the shit he was oogling over just looked annoying the droids might creep me out the first time but it sounds like you have to deal with that shit a fucking lot and the alien might jump out and scare you once, but the animation and kill stuff looks super goofy and kills the immersion. Just looks super repetitive. I'd been seesawing despite being broke about giving this a shot I'm glad I stuck to my guns.

Pretty much the only game I've ever seen get Aliens right would be AVP2 weirdly.

The first AvP was good for its time, and I didn't actually think AvP 2010 was bad. Had they supported it a bit more it could have been really good, but they gave up before all of the major issues were really fixed properly. Still I thought it was (is) a good game.

I agree. Lumps and all it's way better than this except, of course, on production values and atmosphere.

I've gotten up to mission 6? I think

I've enjoyed it so far, though I do give media a large berth in bullshit tolerance though.

sdotbrucato still gives me shit because I liked Equilibrium (I thought it was a good adaptation of F451)

the encounters with the alien are very tricky imo, so much waiting and luck, and desperately pressing the space bar.

Also to be fair, I got the game for free on a Newegg/AMD Gold promotion.

AVP2 stands out for me as the best of all the Alien franchise games. Better than both the original 1999 AvP and the 2010 AvP remake.

Hell, I wish Monolith still made FPSs. AVP2, FEAR, Tron 2.0 and No One Lives Forever 1 & 2 were great games.

Me, too.

Shadow of Mordor is a triumphant return for them so we'll see where they go next.

all i heard was once you get the flamethrower the game is too easy no matter what difficulty cause Aliens just keep running away..

What difficulty are you playing at?

Easy.

Spoiler free: I'm in the medical bay trying to find this doctor's passcode to get medical supplies for (fill in the blank)

The Alien was on me pretty good there. It got a good sneak kill on me and I was being careful. That was legit. Pretty tense and suspenseful. The game definitely does that well and especially incorporating Goldsmith's music from the 1979 movie.

avp 2010 was strange experience. Its like all the budget went into the human campaign which was disappointing story wise but atmospherically well done. I recall feeling a little giddy when you enter the massive alien ship/cavern it was all downhill from there. Then alien campaign starts off really well written and entertaining but falls off the wagon quicker than the human. I remember getting about 5 minutes into the predator campaign and uninstalling it just more samie crap.

Idk maybe Alien is meant to be an Adventure game completely. Just give it to telltale and be done with it.

For what its worth and this gonna sound stupid if you want like the ultimate colonial marine experience there's a 4 player Arcade version of AVP you can play on Mame thats basically final fight but you can choose from two different marines or two predators and it's friggin awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhsT182UwSM

The gameplay is almost completely identical to one of my all time favourites: System Shock II.

It's a first person shooter, but you spend most of your time exploring and tinkering with stuff, and crafting items. The rule of play is sneak and evade here. It's not about killing swarms of aliens and being rambo. In the three hours since I started playing I haven't fired a gun once, and didn't have to face off with an alien yet. That would sure have caused me to fire all over the place in panic.

The graphics is excellent, in fact the characters look so good looking close up, that it immediately prompted me to take a screenshot.

But it's not limited to the characters, everything else is top notch.

So far the only thing I could find wrong with the game is the not so straightforward interface. But at least it's possible to get used to it. For example for looting you have to use three different keys. One button to search the container, another to take items, and a third to close the container. For example others have done this before with 3 presses on one button. But it's a minor issue. The same goes for the crafting screen as well, The game shows what materials are needed to craft a specific item, but you still have to select the necessary items one by one to craft the item.

But in contrast to this I like hacking very much, they way they made it. It reminded me of the puzzles from Mission Impossible.

My recommendation: Quit thinking about getting Shadow of Mordor, and get this instead.

AVP was more than good it was great. We had loads of fun with it in multiplayer.

I'm happy with the game overall so far, but man is the facial animation an immersion killer. Valve's 2004 attempt was substantially better than this.

Otherwise, I'm pleased with the graphics and artwork. The game could stand a little film grain to go with the filmic aesthetic, though.
