Shadows of Mordor

LOTR Online (now F2P/P2W MMORPG) and Guardians of Middle-earth (P2W MOBA) come to mind. There was also a RTS that was pretty popular back in the mid-2000s called Battle for Middle-earth. According to this the movie tie-ins from the consoles also made it to PC. And, of course, there are the LEGO games :D.

Are any of them good? I would say Battle for Middle-earth was the best. I like the LEGO games personally for their charm. I'm not sure about the PC version, but a lot of people also seem to like the movie tie-in for The Two Towers.

They need to push out an HD Battle for Middle-Earth 2, that game was the shit. I still play it from time to time using Lan Bridger.

Even though the video says ultra I'm betting that the game is actually using high textures. In order to activate ultra textures you need to download a separate 15gb texture pack which I don't think is out yet.

It might be up for review copies. Reviewers have special press Steam accounts that gives them early access to games and DLC when publishers want them to have it.

Someone verified this in another forum I go to. The UltraHD texture pack is not available for download right now.

Also said that the 6GB VRAM requirement seems to be if you want to have supersampling option turned on (which makes the game internally render at 4K resolution).

Without supersampling, a 4GB card should be enough to run this thing on Ultra.

If true, this is great news.

This makes a lot more sense now lol.

Assuming this game will have 360 controller support. I used to be KB/M die hard but the Dark Souls games changed my mind on playing a PC game with a controller, especially when it's a third person like this game. Nice to see the good reviews, nice to see a developer doing something for high end GPU's.

Steam page says full controller support. Also, during GAME24 there was a developer play though that they said was the first PC footage being shown, and they were playing with a 360 pad.

I don't know, using the bow a lot it seems to me like a kb/mouse would be better.

So pre load is 34GB...want to put this on my SSD but it is strapped for space right now.

I have barely over 44gb.

I haven't "pre-loaded" a game on steam in a while so can someone tell me, does it require more space then the game requirement/download?

Like if the download is 34gb, will I need twice that for it to "unpack" or verify when it's unlocked?

Just want to make sure, no sense in me pre loading it then if it does instead of just waiting for release.

I really really got to get me a new SSD, 128gb isn't cutting it for any new games anymore lol, constantly fighting to clear space and make room for new games is a pita.

You're best off installing it to another drive and moving it back to the SSD. I'm pretty sure the decryption isn't in-place, sadly. It should be smart enough to figure it out, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Though I don't recall when you're asked where to download to when it comes to preloads. I would assume you pick a library download time. If not, it probably downloads to your steam install/main library per default.

God damn NVIDIA I just bought two 980's. What a bunch of crap. Absolete at launch. I KNEW they were a mistsake and this confirms it. Now I am sure the 20 nm cards will be 6 or 8 GB. They did this intentionally. They should not have branded the 980 as a high end card.

Looks the 6GB requirement is for maxed out with supersamplng @200% and 8xMSAA (4k resolution) if the neogafer isn't full of shit.

Console reviews are overwhelmingly positive right now, with the sole exception of Destructoid (6/10)

Gamespot 8/10
Joystiq 5/5
Polgon 9.5/10
IGN 9.3/10
Escapist 4.5/5
Gameradar 9/10
Game Informer 8.25/10
Eurogamer 8/10
Shacknews 9/10

If anyone is still on the fence they can pick up the base game w/ preorder bonus for $28 @ Nuuvem via PayPal

Not sure what's destructiods beef with game since looks like the consensus is that it's s great game.

Chris didn't like the story, he thought the Nemesis system wasn't great, thought the game got really repetitive, and he didn't think the combat was as good as Arkham.

I can confirm that the 20nm will be out this year. My friend works for nvidia in France. They are faster clocked with more pipes. Also, a dual gpu card based on the new gpu. Not based on a 970 or 980. He went ahead and got a 980 for himself though.

Gonna hold you to this one.:D

sometimes those who speak don't know

and those who don't know, speak

even in unrelated forum threads

The hard sell with the GMG discount code expiring the moment the game unlocks gives me some hesitation, like "hurry up and buy in case reviews crap on the PC version"

Still, seems like an easy decision for anyone that's a fan of the Assassins' Creed and Batman Arkham style of games and particularly their combat.

They do this a lot with pre-orders. Not really sure why, but I've seen many times where coupon codes expire in time with a games release.

Well I went in41 anyway. $37.50 for this game seems like a gift considering the suckers on consoles have to shell out the same old hard $60 pricepoint.

Yeah, really. What are we complaining about?

Got the premium version (includes Season pass) for 24€. Downloading already...... so, should be ready at 6:00 UTC. Or 20:00h local time.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Whether it's $60, $37.50 or $5, a crappy game is a crappy game.

That said, this game doesn't look crappy, so let's just hope the port is good. There is talk over on the Video Card forums about High textures requiring 6 GB of VRAM, so we'll see what that ends up being about.

I don't know about that...I love the Batman series and like the AC series quite a bit but this Mordor game doesn't remind me at all of those 2...combat being similar doesn't mean the games will be...I love the LOTR books/movies and this game seems decent but something also looks a bit off...am holding off until more reviews come out...plus my good ole GTX 580 might be showing its age with this and I might want to get a 970 soon

if any single 980 people play this at 1440 tonight let me know how it runs :O

Seeing as the game uses Steamworks, and Steam has the unlock date set for tomorrow afternoon, I don't think anyone will be playing tonight ;)
