DC Vault 2

Constellation is fine by me. I was going to do muon1 DPAD, but that can wait another month.

Well, if we continue with SOB until Aug 31 we should have a enough of a lead in our current position to stick for 120 days...

Looks like we should get about 87pts in the next 3 days across various projects (Constellation, Malaria, NumberFields, Primaboinca, Primegrid, Collatz
Right after we move up a few spots in malaria I need to shut down the 4p rig. I am going on vacation this Thursday and I don't like leaving that rig unattended. I'm leaving the 980x on though.

It's almost time to deploy the Killer Rabbit!

Primed (pun intended) and ready. Let's go read the stars and pint out that those Constellations(another pun! Boom!) are ours!

Yep it appears we are trecking through the stars at and calculating the numbers at a bit of a warp speed at this time, them there Knights may need to get themselves a little bit faster poney or they may soon be chocking on a bit of lithium dust. :p

It appears Constellation is down for the moment.

Some folks might consider joining me on Primaboinca. As it stands with current throughput, we will gain two spots in 13 days and a third spot in 16 days (22.68 points each). It appears the efforts in Numberfields, Enigma, etc. are going to take much longer so we can make DC-Vault points quicker with Primaboinca.

Just my $0.02. :D

Count me in, well after I get back home from my vacation.

Count me in for a Primaboinca push. Just cranked up the work share for it on all my crunchers.

Well since I am haveing such a hard time with kepping Constellation going I have switched some of the rigs over, at least I can get a days worh of Primibotica downloaded in a reasonable amount of time so I should be able to run it without too many errors.

Normally I don't have time to go through and look at my errors for each project, but I just did for PrimaBoinca and I've got errors I'll need to track down. Their web site says "Computation error" and "Aborted by user".

Here's an example:
http://www.primaboinca.com/result.php?resultid=13778732

I need to see how many errors I'm having and why. :(

brilong, that work unit only needed one result. It looks like the other person was taking too long to return it so they sent out the second copy (yours). However, before you crunched/finished it, the original was completed and returned. Sometimes it will say user aborted when there isn't a different error listed server side. In this case it should have been more along the lines of "not needed". A server aborted would have been more along the lines of the admin sending a kill command. Or at least that is how I understand it.

I think the signal 11 is a no heart beat from client issue. Basically the system is bogged down so much that the work unit times out. But I'm not positive off the top of my head. http://www.primaboinca.com/result.php?resultid=13027650

Looking through your stats I see error 0x8b showing up which is the same error I get from Constellation when it looses connection while trying to upload http://aerospaceresearch.net/constellation/forum_thread.php?id=311 I have also seen the same behavior when in Primbotica when I tried to run it the last time. Also if you look in dmesg you will see an error event on the cpu's when the event happens. I believe there is a bug in Boinc that causes this but I have not posted anything about it at Boinc yet since they probably think I am a trouble maker there anyway, since I pointed out a rather large bug in there point system.

Which bug was that? Seems like you pointed a few out recently. Do we need to add a second monthly competition? "Rabble Rouser" of the month :D

Grandpa, I'm still running tear's tweaked Boinc client, but it's very old (7.0.65). I wonder if we should try the newer client which has lots of updates from the Boinc developers. Ubuntu LTS 14.04 includes Boinc 7.2.42. I imagine the project developers don't test on lots of older client scenarios; they probably run a couple of latest "stable" releases, but I might be wrong.

Maybe but idk, I do know that the optimizations on tears version makes quite a bit of diffrence so I have never ventured out so to say.

The Knights are pushing Numberfields and jumped up a few spots. So, we are now back down to 98 points away from 4th.

We'll close that gap a bit when we mow a couple of teams at Primaboinca in the next day or two.

The trouble we will face is when we tap out all of the easy points and then not only have to defend our positioning, but also continue to add more points from the lesser scoring projects as the teams above us continue to load up on the easy points. We certainly have a tough one ahead of us.

We have a couple of more days to run Primbotica then it is along way to the next gain there, we still have quite a few points to gain in Constelations enough to get past them anyway then enigma after that it gets a little more difficult.

I am still learning the workings of DC Vault... Are there any projects I should particularly contribute lots of my GPU power to? I was hitting Collatz pretty hard and then last weekend I started focusing on Moo! (RC5-72). I can do 2-3 million ppd in either of these projects easily, more if I were to really focus. Which of these projects is better for me to throw some GPU love at for the team?

I'm pretty sure I am going to focus on Collatz on my GPU's, mostly because of the challenge. I had forgotten about it already, after seeing it on the list only about a week ago. D'oh!

Yay, it was getting a little lonely on the Collatz team :D

Edit: And you had better get a move on Coleslaw, I am coming for you and your #10 spot in Collatz...

I don't have the right hardware to hold you off. I will have to see what I can do.

Glad I could join you, Ext64!

Looks like when I really focus all my GPU's on Collatz, I am capable of far more ppd than I thought. I focused them on Collatz last night around 11pm and have already gotten ~2.3 million points in 12 hours. Once I hit my stride, I should be in the 5-6 million ppd range for Collatz alone.

Looking at the GPU Projects for BOINC only, here is what would be needed and their gains per position if the other teams stood stil.

Asteroids is worth 10.52 p/spot. We need 4 million for 24th, another 3 million for 23rd, and another 3 million, then 4, then 7.
GPUGrid is worth 7.26 p/spot. We need 250 million to reach 18th place.
Collatz is worth 6.59 p/spot. We need 30 million for next spot.
Poem is worth 6.19 p/spot. We need 4 million for next spot and then another 32 million for the spot after.
PrimeGrid is worth 3.61 p/spot. We need 54 million for next spot.
Milkyway is worth 2.59 p/spot. We need 1 million and then 16 more after that.
Einstein is worth .91 p/spot. We need 500k, then 2 million, then 200k, then 400k etc...
Seti is worth .16 p/spot. We need 1 million, then 100k, then 100k, then 2 million etc...

So, I will let you break it down by looking at the RACs of each of the teams around us. Obviously, the projects score differently and the resources needed is slightly difficult to compare for investment. It also depends on your hardware since not all projects support all brands. Realistically, we need to raise our position in all of the GPU projects so that we can have some solid competition with those above us instead of the temporary gain from the easy point achievements we have been enjoying. It is only a matter of time before the teams ahead of us maximize their easy points too. Eventually we will need to actually hit some of the low scoring projects in order to move. The sooner we do, the easier it will be.

Edit: And to be fair, the DC-Vault loses a lot of its fun factor when you hit that glass ceiling and feel like you are moving at a slow pace. So, mixing it up helps extend the fun.

Thanks for that info and the link. Very helpful!

I think I will stick with Collatz for my GPU's, at least for a while. We can gain multiple spots in the next couple of weeks, based on RAC. For good measure, I have concentrated my CPU cores on Enigma and Constellation and I have my Intel GPU's working on Seti and Einstein, as well.

Yahoo! Getting close to that 4th place. In 3-4 days we'll get 22 more points from Primaboinca.

I have switched my rigs over to Constellations and enigma there are quite a few points to be made there it is going to be a little tougher from this point forward but we should be able to overtake them before a month goes by. If we get a good turnout form the team for the [H] Constellation challenge we should overtake them before the end of this month. ;)

I'm planning to throw my limited GPU resources back at GIMPS since they moved their unreliable server onto a new hardware + OS combo. I've been following their forum for a few weeks and it seems they are working on positive improvements. I was having too many problems and needed to babysit the submission process every couple of days; I'm going to try them again and see if it has improved.

I know the feeling I have been having the same problem with Constellation and I see as I was leaving for work this morning that one of the 4650 rigs had errored out all 64 threads that were running and this time. I had Internet connection but Constellations was not responding which caused them to error. I am assuming all the rigs will error out but I did not have time to check them this A.M. I think when I get home I will take them off Constellation and move on to something else it is just too much trouble to try and run them. :(

Sounds good. I think the turn out for the Constellation challenge will be a good one. OcUK and Crunching@EVGA are both showing up for it. I am trying to get Team Anandtech on board but they are having difficulty with the Team Founder stuff like others have had. Hopefully, our team will make a large showing for our first challenge. :)
