This is just a reminder that in ~4 hours the PrimeGrid Sovereign challenge will begin.

This challenge only runs the Sierpinski-Riesel Base 5 subproject

There is also still a few days left in the NFS challenge. We did not make a strong appearance on that one since we apparently didn't join. :( Stats are found here: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/challenge/team/chat/557

I don't know if you are aware of this Gil but only the team captain can enter his/her team into a boincstats team challenge. The team captain is considered to be founder of the most amount of boinc projects, which according to boincstats is you for [H] :)

If you log on to boincstats you'll see 'team founder challenges' on the left hand side menu where you can join challenges or create your own.

Where do you see me as being founder of the most amount of BOINC projects? That would be Razor_FX_II as far as I can see....

That isn't accurate for what you are looking for. I am founder of a couple projects, but the majority of them are Razor_FX_II. So, I don't have the ability to accept the team challenges. At least not at BOINCStats...

Edit: jondi, I stand corrected. My appologies. It seems that since we have 2 different team names that they couldn't make Razor_FX_II the Founder of both. So, he is founder of HardOCP (which I can not join those challenges and most of them going were SETI) but apparently I'm the second runner up for team Founder and am associated with [H]ard|OCP. I was able to join the Beal@home challenge which I doubt many will have interest in. However, it did work. Thanks for the help!

Boincstats says you are the team founder so you should be able to, as I said before sign into boincstats and look at the top left hand menu for "team founder". It looks like Razor hasn't signed up at Boincstats so that's why you're the team founder.

EDIT: Glad you got it sorted :)

Jondi the other issue is that for the projects where we go by HardOCP officially, I'm not a member of the non-official [H]ard|OCP team....so I can't join the challenge even for them. I guess that is just more incentive for them to try and merge the teams.....

We are currentley in 4th place in the Primgrid Sovereign Challenge just shy of 1/2 way complete, I see brilong pulled a Grandpa and missed the start, but he has some going on it now :D anyway we should start edgeing up by tomorow.

Yeah, I had an "at" job set to convert everything to PrimeGrid for the challenge, but I had something preempt my hosts (had to shut everything down for a day or two). Oh well.

Yep things happen, even after I made a special attempt to not be late to starting this challenge I was still 4 hrs. late, we had a breakdown at work and I was not able to get to a computer and hit the start button on Bam until several hrs. after start time. :(

I didn't even know there was a Milkyway@home challenge going on :D

Oh well, looks like I helped out the team a little.

Yeah...I think I briefly mentioned it over in the DC-Vault thread perhaps when we brought up the PrimeGrid challenge. I'm hoping this thread makes it easier to know about the challenges. I will try and update them on the first post as I'm made aware of them. I can also only join us to the ones I'm a team captain of (which isn't many) and apparently the majority of the projects we use [H]ard|OCP through the callenges at BOINCStats. Razor_FX_II will probably be responsible for HardOCP projects through BOINCStats. Some projects automatically add you to the challenge like PrimeGrid does. So, if there is a challenge at the project specifically, make sure to pester the team captain for that project. :D

Sorry if I've misunderstood you here Gil, but just to be clear, you can enter or make a boincstats team challenge on behalf of [H]ard|OCP for *any* Boinc project, you don't have to be the actual team founder.

Thanks jondi, but yeah I'm not wanting to make a challenge. Just joining them. :)

POGS team challenge has been added for July.

I should also point out that bunkering is most likely allowed and is a common tactic among teams. So, anyone looking to partake in the challenge should probably start a day or two in advance. The points are based on what gets verified during the time frame. It doesn't work like the ones at PrimeGrid have.

Another July challenge has been added. This one is for SAT and so far does not conflict with others.

I have added two more challenges for SETI BETA that are coming up quick.

37 years after the discovery of the Wow! Signal on August 15th, 1977, which was received from the direction of constellation Sagittarius, it is time to honor the mother of all BOINC projects.

Therefore SETI.Germany is calling for the third SETI@Home-Wow!-Event from 15.08.2014 to 29.08.2014.

Anyone, who wishes to participate, has to register on this site. http://www.seti-germany.de/Wow/anmeldung.php?&lang=en

More information about the Wow!-Signal can be found here http://www.seti-germany.de/Wow/53_en_Information+about+WoW!-Signal.html and about the SETI project here. http://www.seti-germany.de/Wow/42_en_Information%20about%[email protected]

The current BOINC software and installation instructions can be found on the homepage of SETI@home:http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/.

To collect pending credits before race start is not only allowed but welcome! The whole purpose is to do our utmost and work hard for SETI@home and thus provide invaluable support. So don't be afraid to start crunching for SETI@home with all of your available CPUs & GPUs before the race starts.

And who knows, maybe it will be you who finds the new Wow! Signal which will not just be going down in grid computing history!

SETI.Germany wishes you a lot of fun with the third SETI@Home-Wow!-Event.

Doesn't this project end in 5 month's

It ends to the public yes, but in the mean time there is still work that needs done. No reason not to have fun with it. :D

We make this sticky?????

Done

Kai, also if you are going to hit SETI for that challenge... you will want to run as many Astropulse work units as possible. Just a friendly tip. :D

Done and done. I think I'll put everything I have at the SETI challenge, give us a little bit of a showing. I know it isn't favored because of the science it searches for, but I still enjoy the idea.

Looks good. And definitely a wise yet unethical practice. Thanks for the inclusion.

Just a reminder that the Prime Grid challenge is just around the corner. Details in the first post.

Notice how they say to run a WU before the challenge starts such that you download the 22.2MB sieve file ahead of time? I've never run this subproject so I guess I'm stuck downloading the 22.2MB sieve right when the challenge starts unless you guys think I should run 1 WU on each client today just to get the sieve file. Any best practices?

The reason they want you to do that is so that you aren't hammering their server with hundreds of systems all trying to download that large file. It can bring a project to its knees. Rosetta just had this happen when Charity Engine attached 100K new users all at once. That wasn't very nice of them since they didn't give Rosetta any advance notice to prepare or to understand what was happening at the time.

Also, that means that you aren't waiting for them to upload that large file when the challenge begins and you can hit the ground running quicker.

Edit: The other good thing is that you can verify that things are running smooth so that you can avoid doing a project reset during the competition.

Yes, I understood that, so I was asking what people do to prepare. I don't run PrimeGrid except for the challenges. I ended up doing the following to get my clients ready.

  • Alter PrimeGrid account settings to checkbox new challenge project and uncheck other projects
  • Alter PrimeGrid Boinc settings to download 0 additional days of WUs
  • Sync 1 client to Primegrid, enable new work, let it pull down WUs and sieve file
  • tar up the projects/www.primegrid.com subdirectory
  • Abort all the downloaded WUs and set "nonewwork" for Primegrid
  • Copy the tarball to each of my clients and extract; this includes the 22MB sieve file
  • Prepare an "at" job to join the challenge 1 minute after it starts (14:01 US/Eastern)

I believe all 33 of my clients are ready to join the challenge and will not need to download the 22MB sieve file when the challenge starts.

I set all of mine to Primegid PRP in Bam on Sunday and set it to no new work, When the computers joined Primgrid they all downloaded the file and installed the contents. So it was ready when the challenge started.

I have already ran pretty much all of the apps in the past or currently... so I really don't do much prep work. I typically run my systems with a very low to nill cache, so don't usually have to worry about extra work being qued up. However, right now I am loading up on SIMAP work though so that I can better my chances at hitting my goal.

Yeah...I see EXT64 popping up the ranks pretty quick. I keep ping poning from ~66- ~95

One day to go for the SETI challenge. We currently have 3 members signed up. You can find the link in the first post of this thread. Each member has to manually sign up to partake in this one.

Two more challenges added for September. One for POGS and one for GPUGrid.
