The Xbox One is done

Eurogamer has an interesting article, which mainly talks about The Xbox One's embedded ESRAM memory, and how the production Xbox Ones may have considerable performance improvements, compared to Microsoft's original figures. Another issue was the rumors of productions problems, with the ESRAM component, causing them to downclock the GPU. To the best of their knowledge the CPU and GPU clock speeds have not changed.

If they want to entice people to create games on their system, wouldn't they sell dev kits at or near cost? Visual Studio is extremely cheap after all and isn't directx sdk free?

Visual Studio is pretty expensive. Microsoft doesn't have to entice people to their platform with cheap development software because they have the vast majority of the PC market. Apple gives out Xcode for free as a tool to bring in developers.

They pulled that number out of their ass. No way edram speed is suddenly almost twice as fast as they planned. It's the same but now they are using funny math. And it should be higher, 192 for read and write is too slow. Some have calculated it's what you'd come up with if the GPU was downclocked 50Mhz to 750Mhz. CBOAT was confident their yields were nit good enough at original spec.

VSE's releases since 2005 have not had any actual restrictions within the IDE to keep anyone from using its full tools. It doesn't have everything that full VS has, but you can still do a lot with it.

Japan just officially found out they won't be getting the Xbox One at launch. I don't think they people of Japan really care if they ever get the Xbox One. They obviously don't want the 360.

I work at a big Japanese *company. And you're right, they could care less about Xbox. They are all about their PlayStations. Not sure if true or not, but there seems to be more PlayStation titles in Japanese than Xbox and that's a big thing to these guys I work with, even though their English is better than some Americans.

Based on what I have read about XBone thus far, if I were Japanese, I would rather see Godzilla unleashed on Japan than Xbox.

Ehhhh... Japan didn't exactly greet the PS3 with open arms, either. The 3DS' sales in Japan have already surpassed the PS3's lifetime sales there. They seem to be focused on handhelds at this point.

So the xbone will support keyboard/mouse. Did the 360? I didn't think it did. Does this change things?

it cant support it in MP games though, since that would give a HUGE edge over anyone playing on a controller. so they would have to keep it SP or UI only, which changes very little. wasnt kb/m working on ps3? how did they do it?

They left it up to the developers, and almost nobody utilized it. I'm not sure how UE3 (one game that supported it) dealt with multiplayer though.

Then there are folk using the XIM to emulate kb/m movement on both XBOX and PS3, and they have HUGE advantage over the folks using controllers.

UE3 on PS3 had the option to only play with gamepad users.
not sure how it successfully accomplished this however, but it was a menu option.

That's what I thought at first, but that didn't make much sense. Unreal Tournament 3, perhaps?

yes, unreal tournament 3...
I almost bought a ps3 because of the modding and keyboard/mouse features of UT3.... shame other devs didn't do that with their games, I might play some of them on a XIM I guess.... but so pricey :(

Eh, it would be worth it if there's a community playing UT3 on it. The best multiplayer game in the world is worthless if you have no one to play with.

Forza Motorsport 5 will require a one-off connection

Xbox One launch title Forza Motorsport 5 will require a one-off connection to Xbox Live in order to play it, Turn 10 Studios head Dan Greenawalt told IGN.

"So when you first boot up the game, we're going to ask you to log in," he told IGN. "And when you log in you're going to get the Drivatars and you're also going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars. Our production schedule is such that we are putting them in as late as possible and that means making them free as downloadable content on Day One.

That's for content they couldn't finish on time for the game's disc release. Nothing they said states that the game won't run at all without connecting to the internet.

Half right, most games require an update after release due to bugs that were found after the disc were made anyway.

Seems like a huge sack of bullshit. They should include at least a base amount of content to run the fucking game.

The entire game won't be on the disc and will require users to download the rest from Xbox Live. According to Greenawalt, Forza 5 is like a refrigerator where players have to "fill it up with food the first time" and connect whenever they "want to update your food."

What a bunch of shit.

I'd be screwed with an xbox one if that is the case. My internet is absolute shit and if I bought a game on physical media and then had to download gigabytes of stuff first just to play, i wouldn't be playing the game for a good 3 or 4 days.

Exactly. I have some family members that marvel at the speed of a 3G connection. They need to at least put some content on the disc so it could be played while they wait for the stupid download.

I wouldn't say its done, millions will be sold, but I do think Microsoft's vision for the Xbox 1 is faulty. The use as an everything box and NFL fantasy football be all nd all does not translate to the rest of the world, this is a U- centrc product and world wide it will fail as anything other than a game emachine, there are so many other ways to get Netflix, Hulu and all the other streaming services with out paying extra. I already have 5 streaming devces, but the PS4 has a space reserved on my entertainment.shelves lol make that 6 devices and most likely the Xbox 1 will make it 7 devices, but my next gen consoles are for games only they don't really add anything I don't already have. If MS focuses on what brought the Xbox brand this far, games they will do fine, just think this is Sony's gen to shine again.I do prefer my Playstation consoles but I have enjoyed the 360 to even though I had 4 fail on me, wonder how many 360s were replacements and how many individual installations there are of the 80 million sold ?

Probably a lot, but technically that is a good thing for MS. They have amazing brand loyalty in the US.

And how many of the PS2s that Sony has sold were replacements? I mean seriously, I've never seen any console fail so spectacularly. Some stop reading DVDs. Some stop playing PS1 games. Some will read anything besides PS2 games, and yet more won't play early gen PS2 games (colored discs) but will play the ones after the console was out for 3 years. Plenty more require constant refocusing of the lens to get it to work. Not even the slim PS2s are fail-proof.

Seems to me that if people like the console enough, they'll replace it.

If this country would get fucking serious about our internet infrastructure, none of this always online shit would matter at all. Instead, there are millions of people with shitty ass connections or no internet at all. The worst are the service providers overselling a service they don't have the capacity for making it awful for everyone.

Hell yeah I went thru half a dozen different PS2's. Once I got the PS3 at launch I got rid of the ones I had left. My launch day Dreamcast still works though.

Been through 3 PS3's only one red ring 360. My launch original Xbox still works perfect.
My launch Wii still works perfect.

Got a damn Genesis that still works after being in a flood.

It's real funny sometimes what stuff lasts and what doesn't.

I used to have a Gamecube that survived two floods and worked flawlessly. Good ole Blacky, I miss it. It was a launch Gamecube too.

Just placed the pre-order for the Xbox One at Microsoft's online store.

This is my very first game console. Kinetic 2.0 was the deal-breaker over PS4 for the wife and 4 years old daughter. Really looking forward to it despite all the negative vibes toward it. :D
